Winter strikes again in the GTA! Discover how snow has turned buses into blocks of ice!
As snowflakes danced through the air, Southern Ontario braced for a winter wonderland yesterday that left many students cheering for a snow day! The Hamilton Wentworth District School Board announced a complete cancellation of school buses and closed schools across the region. Parents swung their doors open in a flurry, asking who needed a ride to hockey practice instead of school, while kids cheered in excitement, trading textbooks for hot cocoa. Biggest winners of the day? Those cozy blankets and Netflix streaming!
Over in Simcoe County, the weather also had some plans of its own, and they didn’t involve a bus ride for schoolchildren. All school buses were called off while the doors of education remained open. Now, this made for quite the sibling rivalry, with younger students attempting not to spill the tea – or snow – about how their older siblings often got to stay home even when school was open. It was indeed the perfect day for snowman-building competitions and heated pillows fights.
Meanwhile, in the Halton Region, schools echoed youth laughter as buses were halted for the day. Parents ready to brave the icy streets instead found themselves tripling as referees in backyard snowfall battles, fluffy snowballs flyin’ as they yelled, “Watch the aim!” The inclement weather left motorists gripping their steering wheels, but for students, the weather was all fun and games as they embraced the fluffy distraction outside their windows.
As the day unfolded, those unaware of the earlier bus stops surely found themselves in a wintery bliss. This lovely sprinkle of snow serving both to remind everyone of winter’s unpredictable charm and its occasional intrusions into the school routine.
Did you know snow can actually reflect sunlight? That's why it's so bright and sparkly! Also, according to Transport Canada, winter weather contributes to approximately 30% of all road accidents in Canada during the snowy months! Hop back inside and enjoy some warming activities, or make plans for that next snow day!
