Why My PS5 Pro Experiment Went Rogue: A Tale of Warriors and Woe!

Frame Rate - Gaming Performance - Middle-earth: Shadow of War - PC Gaming - PS5 Pro - Video Game Experience

I took a deep dive into Middle-earth: Shadow of War on both my PS5 Pro and PC – one was a soaring eagle, while the other was a plodding orc!

When I first plunged into the sprawling realm of Middle-earth: Shadow of War on my PS5 Pro, I pushed all my chips in, expecting a seamless blend of gorgeous graphics and exhilarating gameplay. Spoiler alert: it was more like finding a hidden coin in your couch—unexpected, somewhat amusing, but ultimately disappointing. Amidst the sweeping landscapes of Mordor, I was greeted with graphical fidelity that felt like a tune-up from an old engine; stunning at first glance, but not quite revving brimming with adrenaline.

The infamous frame rate cap didn't do me any favors either. While the PS5 Pro offers impressive specs designed to enhance gaming performance, my battles felt sluggish and sometimes clunky. Instead of performing heroic feats, I found myself battling against the system’s limits rather than the legions of Sauron. Fast-paced dodges morphed into awkward slow-mo dives, making me feel more like a confused hobbit than the mighty warrior I aspired to be. Returning to my trusty PC, where I could cut through the graphical clutter with a smooth 60fps, made me feel like I'd been walking with one shoe on—barely managing, but not quite triumphant.

When you invest your hard-earned cash in a console, you anticipate an upgrade in every aspect—especially with a heavyweight title like Shadow of War. What's often overlooked is how a game's design can impact the experience on different platforms. In this case, while the PS5 Pro held promise as a platform to explore Middle-earth, its frame rate limitations rendered too much of the gameplay experience compromised—tough pill to swallow for any dedicated gamer.

Yet, here lies a silver lining! My trials on the PS5 Pro led to appreciating the seamless experience on the PC. I discovered that sometimes checking out a new gadget can backfire, but it also refines the appreciation for the tried-and-true. Also, here's a fun fact: Shadow of War's clever Nemesis system can create a dynamically evolving game environment, making each playthrough a unique experience. So, to fellow gamers: sometimes it's worth switching platforms to keep the adventure alive! Whether you’re slaying orcs or wrestling with console performance, every gaming experience contributes to the epic tale of the gamer’s journey!

Playing Middle-earth: Shadow of War on the PS5 Pro was a mistake, and while the frame rate cap contributed to it, the real problem was the gameplay itself.
