Snow Much Fun? Not for School Buses in Northern Ontario!

Nipissing-Parry Sound Student Transportation Services - North East Tri-Board Student Transportation - road conditions - school bus cancellations - snow squalls - Sudbury region - Timmins - winter weather

School buses in northern Ontario are grounded due to snow squall warnings and hazardous conditions. Find out more about today’s cancellations!

It's that time of year again in Timmins and surrounding areas, where snowflakes dance in the air but school buses are parked in their lots. The North East Tri-Board Student Transportation has officially put the brakes on all school transportation across Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, and Matheson. Weather warnings and poor road conditions have caused quite the ruckus, forcing parents to make those last-minute arrangements for their little snowflakes to stay snug at home instead of bundled up for school.

Similarly, Nipissing-Parry Sound Student Transportation Services made the announcement early this morning that all school buses in the region won't be hitting the snowy roads today. Winter can certainly play the party pooper when it comes to education, as many eager students will have to wait another day to interact with their friends because of this frosty forecast. Wouldn’t it be nice if snow days came with cookies and hot chocolate instead of sad parents looking for alternative plans?

In the Sudbury region, the story is much the same. The snow squalls and treacherous road conditions have grounded all school transportation for both anglophone and francophone schools in the area. Suddenly, it seems that all those classroom dreams of ‘snow days’ have turned into reality for many students – although not all are exactly excited to have missed out on tests and quizzes! Everyone knows that virtual learning is only good until the Wi-Fi goes out.

As the region braces itself for ongoing winter weather, let’s not forget that snow is synonymous with some good old-fashioned fun too! So while roads may be unsafe for buses, this presents an opportunity for families to grab their snow pants and enjoy the great outdoors. Sledding, snowball fights, and building snowmen can turn an ordinary school day into unforgettable memories. Plus, did you know that on average, northern Ontario experiences around 165 days of snow each year? So it’s advisable to keep the sleds handy! Stay safe out there and remember: When life gives you snow, make a snow angel!
