SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Joe Thornton has officially announced his retirement from the NHL following a 24-year career as one of the game's top playmakers.

Joe Thornton confirmed his retirement from the NHL on Saturday after sitting out all of last season and remaining unsigned for 2023-24.

The 44-year-old played 24 seasons in the NHL with the Bruins, Sharks, Maple Leafs and Panthers.
