March 28, 2023: Canadiens at Flyers — five things you should know (Montreal Gazette)

Cayden Primeau will start in goal for Habs after getting called up from AHL's Laval Rocket.

No postseason: While the Canadiens will miss the playoffs for the second straight season, this will be the third straight year that there is no postseason hockey in Philadelphia. Suzuki was the only Canadien to play in all 82 games last season. Belzile has five goals in the last 12 games and has 6-8-14 totals in 28 games since getting called up from Laval. 5 THINGS: Flyers vs. Canadiens (NHL.com)

John Tortorella's Philadelphia Flyers (28-32-12) are home on Tuesday evening to take on Martin St. Louis's Montreal Canadiens (29-38-6)

Cayden Primeau, the son of Flyers alum Keith Primeau, will get the start in net for the Canadiens tonight. The Flyers did not practice on Sunday (Flyers Charities Carnival) or Monday (teamwide off-day). At 5-on-5, the Flyers are minus-11 as a team (134 goals scored, 145 goals allowed). On the penalty kill, the Flyers rank 27th at 74.9 percent and the Canadiens are 29th at 73.1 percent. Note: Provorov (522 career games, all with the Flyers) will tie Craven tonight for 31st in games played as a Flyer. He had 154 goals in 413 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs after breaking into the NHL with the Flyers and before returning to Philadelphia as a free agent in the summer of 2018. After enduring a stretch of 26 games without a goal (0g, 4a), Farabee has rebuilt his offensive confidence as the season has come down to its final 12 games. The team is playing its third game in four nights and the second half of a back-to-back set. Philadelphia went 7-for-7 on the penalty kill and has now successfully killed 10 straight penalties after a stretch of allowing at least one opposing power play goal in seven straight games. The Flyers are 0-1-1 this season against the Habs. However, it was too little and too late for Philly to alter the outcome of one of the season's worst overall performances. John Tortorella's Philadelphia Flyers (28-32-12) are home on Tuesday evening to take on Martin St.

The Montreal Canadiens take on the Philadelphia Flyers as we continue our NHL odds series with a Canadiens-Flyers prediction and pick.

Philadelphia needs to score to win this one, and it will come on the back of Laughton. The Canadiens will need to score to win this game. Expect the road team to keep this one close and possibly win. If Philadelphia can limit the number of shots taken by Montreal, they will have a good chance to come out on top in this one. The Flyers need to get their shots off in this one. The Flyers play much better at home, and they will be in Philadelphia for this one. The Canadiens have given up the fourth most shots in the NHL. However, Montreal needs to play this game with physicality if they want to win this game on the road. The Canadiens need to play this game physically and aggressively. The Flyers sit just two points above the Canadiens in the Eastern Canadiens. The Canadiens have been scoring the puck well lately. In their last ten games, the Flyers are 5-4-1.

Call of the Wilde: Montreal Canadiens' road trip excitement stalls ... (Globalnews.ca)

After the excitement of the Montreal Canadiens' Buffalo contest on Monday night, this one was a big letdown. Brian Wilde explains.

To lose Beck is to lose a talented prospect, but not so talented that there is an expectation that he becomes an 80-point player in the NHL. The most important is that there is a contract in spirit in place, before the trade is made. With a handshake contract in place, Hughes can now consider what he will give to the Jets to acquire Dubois. It was a massive gamble for the club to give up on the young scoring superstar Finn. When Dubois tests free agency, the Jets will have nothing to show for Laine who did sign a long-term deal in Columbus. Remember Hughes can simply wait a year, and give nothing up to the Jets. He appears to be a smart player just as he was in college and before that with the Chicago Steel of the USHL. After the excitement of the Buffalo contest, this one was a big letdown. It can take a significant amount of time to get comfortable in the NHL. He was much quieter and settled in the net. The other player who got his first start all season in a Montreal uniform was Cayden Primeau. He simply did not have the balance, while Gallagher had a low centre of gravity and a ‘won’t-lose’ attitude.
