L'organisation du Maryland a jusqu’au 17 juillet pour s’entendre à long terme avec le joueur par excellence de la campagne 2019. A problem here is that the Panthers already gave up tons of draft capital to the Bears for the top spot in this year’s draft and a trade with the Ravens would deplete it for the next few years. Detroit has trended up since the arrival of head coach Dan Campbell in 2021 and came up just short of the playoffs this past season. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft and that would be a heck of a trade chip if the Ravens themselves wanted to start over with someone like Bryce Young or CJ Stroud. The Ravens [placed a $32.426 million non-exclusive franchise tag](https://www.nfl.com/news/ravens-place-non-exclusive-franchise-tag-on-qb-lamar-jackson) on Jackson and will have until July 17 to offer the QB a multi-year extension before that number becomes permanent. Jackson would fit that mold and then some, immediately vaulting the team to the top of the NFC South. Atlanta is undergoing a rebuild and is currently in need of a franchise quarterback.

Lamar Jackson should take the money and run (and throw) (Toronto Sun)

On Monday morning, Jackson tweeted out that nearly four weeks ago he requested that the Ravens trade him, after five seasons.

Sorta like Jordan Belfort thumbing greenbacks out of his hands, off his yacht and into the harbour, in The Wolf of Wall Street. That’d still put him some $35 million short of nine-figure career earnings (at $64.89 million), whereas Allen by this coming season’s end will be up to $112.91 million, with another contracted $161.6 million to come. With both sides still unable to agree to terms earlier this month, the Ravens rightly slapped a non-exclusive franchise tag on Jackson. Wants more years with all additional monies guaranteed, apparently. With not one cent inked to come his way beyond this coming January. Jackson burst into superstardom in 2019 (even being named NFL MVP), Allen in 2020.

Lamar Jackson landing spots: Colts, Patriots & Jets among best fits ... (Sporting News)

There are no shortage of teams across the NFL that could have an interest in Lamar Jackson if he becomes available.

So, the Vikings may be willing to move onto a younger alternative that can add another dimension to their offense, and Jackson would qualify as one. The Vikings have less than $1 million in cap space and wouldn't gain any by parting with Cousins, who has a dead cap hit of $48.75 million in 2023 thanks to the four void years on his contract. The Vikings have been bandied about as a potential landing spot for Jackson in recent weeks. At the very least, he would make them more competitive in a division that saw three teams make the playoffs last season. The issue with the Commanders acquiring Jackson, however, is that the team may be sold imminently. But as that trade saga drags on, could they get involved in the pursuit of Jackson as well? Jackson would cost far more than Rodgers, but he is 13 years younger than the long-time Packer and wouldn't be a retirement risk. The Lions could be a great landing spot for Jackson. All that's to say that the Colts are undoubtedly the top fit for Jackson at present. The Jets are all in on Aaron Rodgers and have been in recent weeks. They have had a different Week 1 starter in each of the last four seasons since his retirement, so Jackson would help give the team some consistency at quarterback. But if Jackson refuses to play for Baltimore or holds out, the team could be forced into a move.

Jim Irsay and Chris Ballard want to keep options open, but their recent QB history and stance on fully guaranteed contracts play big roles.

“I mean, with the quarterbacks that are out there with the draft, picking where we’re picking, man oh man, this is a really important time to see what direction we go in. “We’re not closing the door to any possibility or a high-paid player,” he continued. His resistance in recent years to select a young passer has led the Colts down the rocky path of scraping up discarded veterans from other teams. The GM refuses to be boxed in, and won’t act out of fear — fear of upsetting his fanbase, or fear of losing his job. But I think just history kind of tells you that, when you do that, you better know what you’re getting, and we weren’t quite ready to do that at that time. Moore for the rights to No. And the owner hates the idea of parting with two first-round picks, even for a talent like Jackson. Our game is great and it’s great for a number of reasons, but I don’t think guaranteed contracts make our game greater, I think it makes it worse.” Even beyond Irsay’s hardline stance against guaranteed contracts, the Colts landing Jackson at this point remains a long shot for even more reasons, starting with the fact that the Ravens still hold considerable leverage. “The Ravens (have) not been interested in meeting my value,” he wrote on Twitter Monday. “It has nothing to do with actual dollars,” Irsay said of a potential lucrative contract. “For me, for the good of the game, boy, I don’t believe fully guaranteed contracts would be good for our game at all, at all,” Irsay said.
