Love Is Blind Season 4: Netflix's dating show enters its villain era ... (Vox)

To be fair, little has changed. This year, as the show has done for the past three seasons, contestants — men and women separated by sex but united by their ...

But the experiment in season four isn’t about whether love is blind anymore. I suppose there’s relief in failure because, if the gimmicks of Love Is Blind efficiently worked, then viewers at home would have to ask ourselves questions about our own ideas of relationships and romance. The word that comes up in Love Is Blind over and over, no matter the episode or season, is “experiment.” It’s a convenient way of making the television show sound more scientific and less exploitative than it is. The title of this show isn’t Love Is Blind, But Whoa Did You Get a Look at Her?! The show identifies her as “25” and a “business owner” but does not elaborate on what kind of business Irina runs. The show also, for the first time, allows someone to break their engagement and ask their second choice to marry them. Since producers amped up the emotional chaos and the number and type of interactions on the show, cast member animus and fantastically rancid relationships have also increased. Zack isn’t privy to what’s going on at the Love Is Blind women’s residence hall; he hasn’t seen Irina bully and gossip. Irina cackles, then sneaks up closer to hear the woman detail the gory bits of her dumping. Not only in the pods, where cast members do things like draw or listen to music or play games with each other through the wall (if you consider a version of beer pong a game), but also in their segregated living quarters. “Positano is my favorite place,” one of the female contestants this season yells in her windowless couch room. It’s not an “experiment,” it’s not about love, and — like the international moppets who got sucked into Wonka’s chocolate pipes or exploded into something huge and blue — it’s only an opportunity to experience humiliation, destruction, and dashed dreams.

Love Is Blind Season 4: Which Couples Get Engaged? (Today.com)

Which couples got engaged on Love Is Blind Season 4? Meet all 5 hopefuls including Tiffany and Brett, Micah and Paul, Marshall and Jackie, Chelsea and Kwame ...

Despite her thoughtfulness, and their love for the same Lee Ann Womack ballad, Zack doubts his relationship with Bliss, breaking up with her in favor of Irina. Irina recoils any time Zack tries to be affectionate and tells the cameras they do not have a physical connection. He returns from Mexico determined to see if he can convince Bliss to give their relationship a try again, per previews. Jackie tells the camera he fiancé "makes Mexico fun." By the next episode, the two are laughing and having fun. She dreads having to choose one of them, and opens up to Josh about her thought process. Micah agrees and says she wants to continue to "burn" with Paul. In fact, the only hurdle they have to overcome occurs when Tiffany accidentally falls asleep in the pods just as Brett is opening up about falling in love with her. But in Mexico, lingering feelings from the pods resurface, as Micah and Kwame speak at length at a pool party and touch on what went wrong between them. Because if it was perfect it wouldn’t be real.” He compliments Chelsea for always being herself and kneels down before proposing. This season, a record-number of love triangles form before five couples decide to get engaged and head to Mexico for a romantic getaway. The next day, Tiffany apologizes for her terrible timing before Brett assures her that he still loves her.

Love Is Blind Speaks the Love Language of Corporate America (TIME)

Why do the Netflix hit's marriage-ready singles talk about romance using buzzwords straight from the boardroom?

[past](https://time.com/6231990/love-is-blind-zanab-cole-cuties/) and present. Throughout season 4, cast members talk about [leaning in](https://time.com/4718126/sheryl-sandberg-lean-in/) to their engagements and feeling [burnout](https://time.com/6106656/workplace-burnout-pandemic/) from years of failed relationships. (Two season 4 cast members actually work as recruiters.) Daters ask one another about their values and goals, and sometimes go so far as to pose the kind of brain-teasers that make interviews for many The corporate workplace penetrates even this supposedly sacred “experiment,” dropping signifiers of education, ambition, and social class wherever it goes. [white-collar leadership manuals](https://ideas.time.com/2013/03/07/why-i-want-women-to-lean-in/) and corporate communications would be a lingua franca in Love Is Blind’s famous pods. Four seasons in, Love Is Blind might have proven that it’s possible to fall in love with someone you’ve never seen or touched. The pods, where all the cast members have to go on are their conversations, make the words that come out of each person’s mouth even more crucial than they’d normally be. “I can’t get you to invest,” Zack, a 32-year-old attorney, complains to his match, Irina. Even on [The Bachelor](https://time.com/collection/reality-tv-most-influential-seasons/6198489/the-bachelor/) and its ilk, the typical contestant is destined to find fleeting fame, not a lifelong mate. While no cast is monolithic, a couple dozen 20- and 30-somethings who are more eager to fast-track their romantic futures than to launch ongoing careers in reality TV seem more likely to have already settled into traditional professions. Beachfront flirt-fests in the vein of [Love Island](https://time.com/collection/reality-tv-most-influential-seasons/6200459/love-island-uk/), Temptation Island, and [Too Hot to Handle](https://time.com/5820865/too-hot-to-handle-netflix-review/)—as well as self-aware takes like [FBoy Island](https://time.com/6082118/fboy-island-sexy-beasts-review/), the canceled HBO Max series that recently [found a new home on the CW](https://tvline.com/2023/03/16/fboy-island-the-cw-renewed-season-3-fgirl-island-spinoff/)—tend to attract professional exhibitionists: influencers, models, actors, personal trainers looking to promote their brand by flexing shirtless for an audience of millions. Clearly caught off guard, Kwame—who isn’t looking at, and in fact has never seen, Micah because the show’s premise dictates that couples don’t meet face-to-face until they’re engaged—defaults to the oral equivalent of a form rejection letter.

Love Is Blind season 4 brings us best new villains (and relationship ... (Polygon)

Netflix's Love Is Blind has entered a new season with the first 5 episodes now available, and the Irina/Micah madness of it all is great reality TV show ...

I really do think the show plays up all of his hang-ups in a way that goes beyond cringe and into pity, and I’d get mad about it if it didn’t ultimately turn out that he and Irina are maybe more self-aware than they appear? Is someone like Micah, who clearly believes all’s fair in love and war, really a villain for not buying into the romantic premise of the show? What catapults her to full-on villain territory, however, is her continued meddling in the relationship between Kwame (who she rejected) and Chelsea (who she was kind of lousy to) while pretending her behavior is totally normal. Kind of relatable.) Micah, to me, just seems like she wanted to win, which makes her unusual in this Love Is Blind cast because she is, frankly, behaving like a reality show contestant. The way she just messes with people’s emotions in a totally flat way — the makings of a great reality TV show villain, tbh. It’s like watching a younger sibling falling in love and just wanting so much for it to work out for them. For a show that’s so purely about interpersonal dynamics, Love Is Blind really lives and dies on its cast — season 1 got by on a genuinely earnest relationship that formed, season 2 got by on the strength of an all-time reality TV villain, and season 3 was just kind of… Though the one-two punch of those scenes could seem jarring, instead it just makes them seem real and thrilling in a way so much of reality TV struggles to. Joshua: Brett and Tiffany may be the most charming, but Marshall and Jackelina have something that feels genuine in a way that this show has never managed before. [the grand “experiment,” after all](https://www.polygon.com/2020/2/28/21158070/love-is-blind-netflix-reality-dating-show-couples).) The new, fourth season of [Netflix’s Love Is Blind](https://www.polygon.com/23451681/love-blind-season-3-soundtrack-music) takes the reality show to Seattle (or, at least, it will, following its first five episodes spread across the pod basement and the resort in Mexico). Joshua: Netflix’s reality shows are basically all deranged social experiments, and Love Is Blind is still the best of the bunch. It takes a little bit before you figure out which of the contestants the show will focus on (a lot of folks wash out), but who immediately made an impression on you, Zosha?

Love Is Blind Season 4 Review (BuzzFeed News)

Though the concept of the show continues to be absurd, I can't stop watching.

It has clearly established that people do fall in love sight unseen, but what follows — seeing new couples get cornered into a decision to either get married or leave the altar in tears — seems like an incredibly cynical and cruel portrayal of what love is. And that’s not what I came to the show for. From Season 3 there are Alexa and Brennon (which got [complicated](https://www.thedailybeast.com/love-is-blind-contestant-brennon-lemieux-was-accused-of-assaulting-ex-girlfriend)) and Colleen and Matt (Colleen recently said she doesn’t wear her ring and they didn’t feel sure enough about each other [after a year of marriage](https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/love-blind-star-colleen-reed-144318270.html) to move in together). With each season, I increasingly wished Love Is Blind was a dating show instead of a marriage show. When Love Is Blind first premiered in early 2020, many of us were stuck at home, trying to adjust to the isolation of pandemic life. Love Is Blind holds singles in speed-dating jail for 10 days and then slingshots them onto the fast track to marriage. [more “authentic”](https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/leylamohammed/nick-lachey-jesse-palmer-love-is-blind-bachelor-shade) than the rest, yet still seems committed to drama. I find the premise of the show — that true love leads to a quick marriage — absurd. The odds are stacked against them, and this season leans more heavily into that tension than before. One of the big twists Netflix teases in [cast](https://www.netflix.com/tudum/articles/love-is-blind-season-4-cast-guide-instagrams) includes Zack, a quirky criminal defense attorney who said he’s been judged for the way he grew up (his mother was a stripper); Brett, a mellow designer who picked up drawing as a low-income kid and landed a job at Nike without a college degree; Kwame, an animated sales development manager and former soccer player from Ghana; Marshall, a marketing manager who had demanding parents and describes himself as emotional and sensitive; and Paul, a rational-minded environmental scientist who said Love Is Blind is a “surprisingly sound” experiment. The usual conflicts unfold in Season 4.

Love Is Blind Season-Premiere Recap: Mean Girls (Vulture)

You'd think by season four of this show, the formula would be tired, but Netflix keeps finding new and inventive ways to punish single people.

(Does he need someone to take his place …?) The conversation then devolves into Zack and Irina both trying to win the breakup: She says she likes Paul because they had one conversation about Russian food, and he theorizes about her need for control in a relationship (a theory which she politely declines to hear). Micah and Paul have a date at a cenote and appear to be getting closer. While Chelsea and Kwame are fighting, the lyrics are literally, “I will fight.” When they’re making up at the cacao ceremony, the lyrics are, “We’ll make it through.” You can’t make this stuff up. THIS IS A LOVE IS BLIND FIRST (!!!!!!) — which is shocking, considering the caliber of people they’ve had on this series. Micah and Kwame have a mature conversation where they wish each other the best. He likes her enough not to break up with her, but they don’t seem to have the magical/soulmate/mind-bending connection that Tiffany and Brett do. When Paul and Micah do decide only to date each other, he’s so upset that he literally cannot get the words out to break up with Amber; meanwhile, Micah rages about why their conversation is taking longer than 0.2 seconds and why Kwame didn’t react to her breaking up with him even though, again, she broke up with him. At least at their reveal, Chelsea appears to find the “spiritual connection with her husband’s body” or whatever it is she’s looking for. Paul the Third — who my roommate has lovingly nicknamed P3 — is a nerdy environmental scientist who uses the privacy of the pods to be shockingly flirty. In classic Love Is Blind fashion, we start with Nick and Vanessa Lachey telling a bunch of people we’ll never see again that they’re about to meet the loves of their lives before beginning the free-for-all that is pod dating. Marshall/Jackelina: Jackelina (“Jackie”) is straight out of the Love Is Blind textbook — she says exactly what’s on her mind and fully embraces having 12 boyfriends at once. The man got 0.5 confessionals and revealed himself to be someone who backs down from conflict quite easily.)

What Happened to Zack & Irina From 'Love Is Blind' Season 4 (menshealth.com)

If you need a refresher on how the show works, a bunch of single people enter into a dating experiment where they chat with other singles in pods. The twist?

As of now, it’s unclear what will happen with the couple as the season moves along, but the final scene in the fifth episode did have a shocking twist, as it showed Zack and Bliss meeting for the first time. While Zack and Irina had a good start in the pods, however, things got a little bit sticky after they met, with Irina telling Zack that his intense eye contact was “creepy.” She also didn’t seem happy with his looks and laughingly told him she felt like he looked like a cartoon character, which he took offense to. Things came to a head after Irina flirted with Micah’s fiancé, Paul, at a pool party that all of the couples attended. The couple had an instant connection in the pods, where they opened up to each other about their childhood and similar sense of humor. One couple that’s making waves on the new season is Zack and Irina, with fans wondering if the 31-year-old attorney and 26-year-old business owner are still together. Afterwards, they leave the pods, go on vacation, move in together, meet each other's family and friends, and prepare for their weddings.

'Love Is Blind': Which Couples Get Engaged in Season 4? (Collider.com)

There were five couples who left the pods together and will look to begin a new life together. Love-is-Blind-Season-4-Jackie-& ...

It was a touching conversation between the two that led into the proposal, much to the delight of Chelsea, “I feel like our love story was the most beautiful slow dance.” Of the five couples, these two seem to have the deepest understanding of one another. The 26-year-old marketing manager was desperate to find out who said this about him and didn’t waste time as Josh ended up owning up to the whole thing. The last couple to get together, Kwame makes the moment even more special by wearing a pair of light tan khakis. Kwame has a rough go and takes the news of his breakup with Micah to heart after initially feeling she was the one for him. He even breaks out a guitar and sings a song to the 30-year-old pediatric speech language pathologist. Jackie told him how another man said he would walk out if she didn’t choose him and how he found it tough to hear about Marshall talk so highly about her his connection back in the living quarters. They agree this will just be a funny story one day as they are the first couple to claim their ticket for the Mexico honeymoon. Micah calls Paul her “twin flame” and gushes about how he makes her “excited and nervous” all at the same time. The two clear this hurdle as Brett, a 35-year-old design director, gets down on one knee to pop the question. The first couple to meet face-to-face in the pods, this duo came out of the gates fast. The 28-year-old environmental scientist compares his love to her like “standing in the sun,” which leads to him asking her “to stay close” to him. They seemed destined to grow together through the process until one questionable moment.

Love Is Blind Recap: Season 4 Is Turning Out to Be a Long and ... (TVLine)

The five-episode premiere, which dropped on Friday, featured plenty of drama that made everything from Season 3 seem minor in comparison. Take Micah and Kwame, ...

They grew closer, and Jackie revealed that she was still talking to Josh, who said he would leave if he couldn’t have her and felt sick to his stomach every time Marshall spoke about her. In the pods, Zack was torn between Irina and Bliss. In Episode 4, Kwame was in awe of Micah when he met her for the first time. Kwame was so sure about Micah that he asked if he could propose to her earlier, and Micah felt that they were moving way too fast. The pool incident: Chelsea asked Kwame to get her chips and guacamole, and he obliged. When their wedding day arrives, will real-world realities and external factors push them apart, or will they marry the person they fell blindly in love with?”

Why Love Is Blind Season 4's Bliss Was The Better Choice For Zack (Screen Rant)

Love Is Blind season 4's Zack Goytowski was torn between Bliss Poureetezadi and Irina Solomonova, and ultimately chose Irina for superficial reasons.

Even with Irina forgetting Zack's birthday while Bliss made him cupcakes and wanted to celebrate him, Zack ultimately proposed to Irina and met with her outside the pods. Irina didn't seem as interested in Zack upon their face-to-face meeting, and the pair ultimately chose to break up before they had to live together back in Seattle. Zack had a rough time with this revelation, and it potentially led to him choosing Irina over Bliss. Bliss, who clearly felt like she was going to wind up with Zack, spoke candidly about her other relationships and expected Zack to do the same. Though they had some conversations about their families and backgrounds, Irina seemed like she was more interested in having someone talk to her than being attracted to Zack himself. When it came time for Zack to make a decision, he had a difficult time, but ultimately chose to propose to Irina.

Love Is Blind season 4 marks a first for the franchise with ... (EW.com)

'Love Is Blind' season 4 just marked a first for the franchise with that episode 5 cliffhanger, as Zack ends his engagement with Irina and gets back ...

The episode leaves off on the cliffhanger after Bliss walks into the restaurant to meet with Zack, and he tells her they both know he "made the wrong choice." Despite his best efforts to make the best of a bad situation, they finally call it quits on the last night of the vacation. The second Zack and Irina meet each other in person, Irina is visibly not attracted to Zack and says — to his face! Irina doesn't even remember Zack's birthday, and tries to steal one of Bliss' candles for him after making fun of her cupcakes. The right choice in this love triangle seemed obvious to viewers, as the sweet and kind Bliss is perfect "wifey" material — she literally bakes him cupcakes for his birthday and is just genuinely a lovely person. The engaged couples then take a post-pod trip to Mexico to get to know each other better, and a month later they'll walk down the aisle to either say "I do" or break up at the altar.
