NHL Predictions: March 18 including Edmonton Oilers vs Seattle ... (Last Word on Baseball)

NHL Predictions for the afternoon slot of Saturday's Games on March 18th, including the Edmonton Oilers in Seattle take on the Kraken.

[Rick Bowness](https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/b/bowneri01.html?utm_medium=linker&utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&utm_campaign=2023-03-18_hr) and the Jets will have to overcome the average inefficiency of the team’s shooting tendencies to best overcome Nashville tonight and maintain their playoff spot with just 12 games to go. In each of the previous three matchups, one team has scored at least five goals, with the Oilers putting up seven in December against the Kraken. Luckily for the Bruins, [Connor Clifton](https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/c/cliftco01.html?utm_medium=linker&utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&utm_campaign=2023-03-18_hr) is expected to take his place, allowing the Bruins to maintain an elite d-core with seven (arguably eight) NHL-caliber defensemen in their system. [Jeremy Swayman](https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/s/swaymje01.html?utm_medium=linker&utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&utm_campaign=2023-03-18_hr) in [ net](https://www.dailyfaceoff.com/starting-goalies) to collect the shutout. As alluded to above, transitional play will be the definition of this game at even-strength play. For Nashville, tonight’s game and the April 8th match-up between these two teams may become the most important games of the Predators’ season for postseason implications. Despite missing [Kirill Kaprizov](https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/k/kapriki01.html?utm_medium=linker&utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&utm_campaign=2023-03-18_hr), the Wild have found a way to produce in three games since the injury, including recent strong performances from [Ryan Hartman](https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/h/hartmry01.html?utm_medium=linker&utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&utm_campaign=2023-03-18_hr) and recent acquisition [John Klingberg](https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/k/klingjo01.html?utm_medium=linker&utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&utm_campaign=2023-03-18_hr). More importantly, the playoff implications of this game may be fundamentally changed; Nashville currently resides four points behind Winnipeg for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference, with three games in hand. With the playoffs unlikely for the Red Wings at this juncture in this season, the play of the team’s youth could provide external promise, including the call-up of defender Simon Edvinsson yesterday afternoon. [Derek Forbort](https://www.hockey-reference.com/players/f/forbode01.html?utm_medium=linker&utm_source=lastwordonsports.com&utm_campaign=2023-03-18_hr) sustained a lower-body injury blocking a shot in Winnipeg two nights ago. With the team able to roster a consistent lineup by each day (even with some lingering injuries), the Avalanche are producing at a rate much more similar to last season’s masterclass. We also have a featured game of the day, which is considered must-watch TV.

GAME RECAP: Oilers 6, Kraken 4 (NHL.com)

Kane's hat-trick powers the visitors to victory in Seattle as Edmonton extends its lead over the divisional rival in the Pacific standings.

It's kind of been a start-and-stop season for him, but he's been all around the puck in any game that he's played and for three to go in for him tonight, I was happy for him." In the end, he played today and was a big factor in our win." "I think just getting opportunities to put myself in positions to get pucks, shooting the puck more. "He had some lingering stuff that was bugging him, and he's had good numbers versus Seattle on the year. I've been in and out of the lineup with injuries all year, so just trying to get into some rhythm heading into the playoffs, and tonight definitely helps that." "This is probably the tightest I've seen it with respect to the entire conference, both divisions, where you can literally be in first place in the Western Conference, or you could be in a wildcard spot within a matter of a week. Stuart Skinner stopped 33 of the 37 shots he faced on a busy afternoon to earn his seventh win in his last eight starts. Kane gave a momentary glance over to Janmark and froze goaltender Martin Jones before placing a perfect wrist shot into the top corner for his 13th on the year. The longest tenured Oiler fed Yamamoto parked in front of Grubauer for a one-timer through the five-hole and a 2-1 Edmonton lead with 3:24 to go in the frame. "It was a good forecheck," said the Spokane native, whose parents Russ and LeAnn were in attendance on Saturday. With the game tied 1-1 late in the opening period, the Oilers re-established their lead on a pristine passing sequence finished off by Washington native Kailer Yamamoto for his ninth of the season. Darnell Nurse made a breakout pass from deep in the Oilers zone to find Zach Hyman at the Kraken blueline, and Hyman found Kane with a cross-zone feed, allowing the winger to sneak a long-range shot through Philipp Grubauer's legs and spot Edmonton an early 1-0 advantage.

Oilers once again showcase offensive talent in loose affair vs. Kraken (Sportsnet.ca)

The Edmonton Oilers gave up plenty against the Seattle Kraken on Saturday, but in doing so showcased their offensive talent and proved their competitive ...

“I mean, we have the best two players in the world, but they can't carry a team and win a championship. We shouldn’t be surprised that the Oilers and Kraken scored 10 on a Saturday afternoon. The game opened with a weak goal allowed by Philipp Grubauer, and closed on a softie let in by replacement ‘tendy Martin Jones. It marks Hyman’s first ever 30-goal season, on an Oilers team that has led the league in offence all season long. “Stuey made some big saves down the stretch and early on in the game to keep us with that lead. The Oilers scored first, then made sure Seattle never scored more than one goal in a row.
