Are airless tires going to hit the market any time soon? (The Globe and Mail)

While several tire makers are working on airless tires, most companies wouldn't say how close they are to being on the roads.

“In airless tires, this is obviously not the case, so our engineers have to ensure the components of an airless tire can withstand the heat and other pressures placed on a tire.” Canada’s a big place, so let us know where you are so we can find the answer for your city and province. That wouldn’t be an issue with airless tires, Kimpel said. Also, because airless tires aren’t close to production, governments have not yet established safety regulations. The biggest advantages are no more flat tires or worrying about air pressure levels. Because airless tires are never filled with air, they can’t go flat. They’re also more durable than regular tires and should have longer lifespans. Airless tires are exactly as they sound. In January, Michelin started testing its airless tires prototype on DHL Express courier vans in Singapore, Michelin said in an email statement. I’ve been hearing about airless tires for years. Are any coming to the market any time soon? I’ve had “run-flat” tires, but they’ve still

Mountain town employers are having a hard time finding staff. Some ... (CBC.ca)

Snow might still be on the ground, but summer hiring is well underway for employers in Banff, Canmore and Lake Louise — and amid a persistently tight labour ...

The government agency has also launched a new youth and student summer job portal to make it easier to apply for jobs. "In some places last summer we were 15-per-cent unstaffed," said Cochrane. On YouTube and social media, marketing videos titled "What is an entry level job?" For example, the posted wage for a dishwasher at the Banff Centre has risen from $16.31 per hour in November 2021, to between $17.50 and $18.25 an hour this year, according to data from the Job Resource Centre. "Our key message is to be competitive," said Michel Dufresne, director of the Job Resource Centre for Banff and Canmore, who's telling employers to raise wages and to give their staff enough time off to enjoy living in the mountain community. "We have actually increased wages to be very competitive, and in order to attract candidates and also to retain employees once we have them," said Peirce.

What is an average & good time for a triathlon? (Tri247.com)

Elite athletes racing in the WCTS can complete a sprint distance substantially under 60 minutes – as mentioned, the draft-legal format undoubtedly contributes ...

We mention the above to provide some perspective when comparing what constitutes a good time for a certain race distance, especially if you are curious to compare your athletic prowess to that of the sport’s best athletes. To help you set realistic goals, we have detailed some of the issues that can skew what is considered a good time for a triathlon: That means your overall race time starts when your swim commences and stops only when you cross the finishing line. In fact, aiming to go below one and a half hours means you are setting yourself up for a good time that is likely to place you well up the leaders’ board. It is difficult to give a narrow ballpark finishing time for the pros, since variations in the weather and course can make a substantial difference. Triathlons can be broadly split into two, those that allow drafting on the bike and those that do not [Link to Jargon Buster]. Importantly, different races have different cut-off times, that is times by when you have to complete each discipline and the overall race. For pro male athletes, breaking 8 hours is still seen as a great achievement, and often a necessity if you want to win. It is not unheard of for top-end age-groupers to dip under the hour for a sprint distance triathlon, and in some age-group categories you may well need to do so if you want to win a national title – in any event, serious kudos. However, it can be an appealing option due to the distances being attainable for most with a relatively limited training time commitment, the event itself not taking up your whole day, and still offering the chance to be raced at full tilt if that is your aim. For example, 5 years ago a men’s race could be won with a 1.15 half-marathon, and a run time of 1.11 would really stand out. For instance, what distance of triathlon, what type of course, and more importantly a good time for who?

In a letter to the editor of the Journal of Paris in 1784, Benjamin Franklin wrote, "Early to bed, and early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.

An early morning experience in the outdoors – whether it be a walk or even just a few moments of quiet contemplate about the new day – is an excellent step to good health. The study’s findings further suggested the disruption to sleep patterns might even trigger the onset of depressive symptoms. Don’t forget the function of sleep as a sort of garbage collection system. One study published in Sleep Medicine found the springtime change was associated with increased symptoms of depression, particularly in people who already had a history of depression. The time change and associated disruption to sleep patterns can have more serious health consequences. The effect of DST on sleep is significant.

Confronting the passing of time (Varsity)

This past November, I read a book that echoed my deepest anxieties, an experience which was both gratifying and uncomfortable. I was studying W.G. Sebald's The ...

Eliot did not intend to assuage existential dread when he wrote, “In a minute there is time / For decisions and revisions which a minute will reverse.” Rather, he was confirming the same concerns that plague me. They have found ways to cope with the question I’ve hinted at, which is, “What is the meaning of it all?” I was annoyed at having to read the text and especially irritated that I had to confront the existential questions I deliberately avoided. The likening of opium and time expresses the theme of the novel that we use the prospect of the future — or the passage of time — as a sedative against the fear of the very future we look forward to. Last summer, I watched the movie The Remains of the Day, which despite not literally being a movie about an old man, was one to me. I obsess over whether the elderly man sitting alone at a restaurant has had a good life, whether he is happy with his 80 or 90 years of existence, or whether he would undo some of his life choices if he could.
