Canucks trade Curtis Lazar to Devils for fourth-round pick (Sportsnet.ca)

The Vancouver Canucks have traded forward Curtis Lazar to the New Jersey Devils for a fourth-round pick in 2024, according to Elliotte Friedman.

"I want to win in this league, I had a taste of it a little bit in Boston there," Lazar told the Hockey Central panel. He led the Bruins in hits (186) in the 2021-22 regular season and blocked more shots (51) than any other forward on the squad while also posting a career-high eight goals. Lazar brings to New Jersey a reputation for being a strong face-off man — his 51.9 per cent win percentage ranked second among his Vancouver teammates this year — and plays a physical game.

Trade Reaction: New Jersey Devils Acquire Curtis Lazar from ... (All About The Jersey)

The New Jersey Devils acquired a depth forward in Curtis Lazar from the Vancouver Canucks for a 2024 fourth round pick. This post reacts to the trade and ...

That says to me that he is good enough to be in the league but not good enough to stick around any one organization. My point is that the Devils trading for Lazar could lead to a later transaction down the line. In terms of the roster, this is a bit more interesting. Hopefully, this is a player that Ruff will use regularly when Lazar is in the lineup. [He is a right-handed shot](https://www.nhl.com/player/curtis-lazar-8477508) so when he is not a center, he can play right wing. [As initially reported by Darren Dreger](https://twitter.com/DarrenDreger/status/1631697687488626701), the New Jersey Devils acquired Curtis Lazar from the [Vancouver Canucks](https://www.nucksmisconduct.com) for a fourth round pick in 2024. Which is what Curtis Lazar is: a depth player. However, [he has been not good in Vancouver this season with a 43.16% CF% and a 45.6% xGF%.](https://www.naturalstattrick.com/playerteams.php?fromseason=20222023&thruseason=20222023&stype=2&sit=5v5&score=all&stdoi=oi&rate=y&team=VAN&pos=S&loc=B&toi=0&gpfilt=gpdate&fd=&td=2023-03-02&tgp=410&lines=single&draftteam=ALL) Why? [He won 134 of them](https://www.nhl.com/stats/skaters?report=faceoffwins&reportType=season&seasonFrom=20222023&seasonTo=20222023&gameType=2&playerPlayedFor=franchise.20&filter=gamesPlayed,gte,1&sort=totalFaceoffWins,faceoffWinPct&page=0&pageSize=50), so he is not bad at it this season, but hardly exceptional like, say, Michael McLeod. As such, the expectations for the 2023 [NHL Trade Deadline](http://www.sbnation.com/nhl-trade-rumors) Day for New Jersey were not high.

[per CapFriendly](https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/devils), so beyond another depth move, New Jersey might be quiet the rest of today. Lazar has struggled to say healthy – he’s currently on injured reserve – and when he has been in the lineup, he hasn’t been the most productive, collecting just three goals and two assists in 45 games. Going the other way is a 2024 fourth-round pick. The 28-year-old was in his first season with Vancouver after inking a three-year, $3MM deal ($1MM AAV) with them last summer.

Canucks: Curtis Lazar now a Devil, Brock Boeser saga will carry ... (The Province)

The Vancouver Canucks started trade-deadline day by moving bottom-six forward Curtis Lazar to the New Jersey Devils for a 2024 fourth-round pick on Friday.

He’s currently sidelined by a shoulder ailment and will be further evaluated in Vancouver. However, he struggled to stay healthy and produce and managed but five points (3-2) in 45 games this season. His 10.2 per cent shooting accuracy is a testimony to that. Granlund, 31, who has 36 points (9-27), is expected to play right wing on the third line with Jeff Carter and Danton Heinen. Boeser’s agent, Ben Hankinson, worked in concert with the Canucks to find a landing spot. “I’m looking at all the options to improve our team,” he added. Boeser has admitted this trade deadline was more difficult to deal with because there were enough hints that he was going to be moved. 30 until now addressed the need to get faster, younger and more competitive. The Canucks hockey operations department believes that some of the heavy lifting has already been done. Miller in the morning, but according to Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin, there wasn’t any trade traction. It ended with that being the lone transaction. Article content

The Devils’ fourth line has better results than their underlying numbers show this season, and some of that has to do with what they allow back. He wasn’t able to upgrade the Canucks’ penalty kill, which currently sits dead last in the league, and wound up spending most of his time on the wing rather than down the middle. Moving on from the term left on his modest $1 million cap hit while picking up a draft pick is decent work by the Canucks. Lazar was signed in the summer to be a stabilizing force as a right-shot fourth-line center who could kill penalties and win draws.

Meet the New Devil: Forward Curtis Lazar (The Hockey Writers)

The New Jersey Devils added a bottom-six forward at the 2023 trade deadline when they acquired Curtis Lazar from the Vancouver Canucks.

He can win faceoffs, throw the body, and block shots as evidenced by his 124 hits and 49 blocks this season with the Canucks. All in all, this acquisition may not be as flashy as others throughout the league. [recent article](https://thehockeywriters.com/devils-up-down-mercer-meier-trade-deadline/), the team’s “BMW” Line has struggled to find consistency this season. “Chris Taylor was a big part of my development in Rochester. He spent most of his time on a line with the aforementioned Joshua and Aman. “So you know to stay in the league, I had to find something that I was good at, and that’s being strong defensively, killing penalties, and taking faceoffs. He credited Taylor with his development. During his availability, Lazar shared that he had previously played with The newest Devils forward joined the zoom conference from his place in Vancouver. 2022-23 Season: Lazar has collected five points (three goals and two assists) in 45 games with the Canucks this season. His faceoff win percentage is 51.9, and he played a majority of the season on a line with Dakota Joshua and Nils Aman.
