The Predators are a longshot in the quest to claim one of the Western Conference’s playoff berths. Nashville had just three shots in the third. I thought we were really solid.” Kind of a lucky one for me there.” “I thought we were loose. I thought we gave up a lot of chances.

Boeser to Pittsburgh? Penguins and Canucks in "serious" trade talks ... (Daily Hive)

It sounds like something is cooking between the Vancouver Canucks and Pittsburgh Penguins. Brock Boeser and J.T. Miller have been mentioned.

Rossi is reporting that sources with both the Canucks and Penguins are saying they don’t think Boeser will be traded to Pittsburgh. Will the Canucks and Penguins be able to get a deal done? It’s been a wild day of trades in the NHL today. It’s the third trade GM Patrik Allvin has made in four days. [Boeser’s agent being reportedly granted permission to find a new team](https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/canucks-boeser-permission-to-seek-trade). Boeser, who signed a three-year contract extension worth $6.65 million last summer, [was looking to score 30 goals this season](https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/this-is-the-year-canucks-boeser-30-goal-promise).

NHL Trade Rumors: Is J.T. Miller about to become a Pittsburgh ... (PensBurgh)

The Pens are wheeling and dealing and J.T. Miller's name is popping up fast and furiously as a potential trade targer.

Miller or not — the Penguins are opening up a significant amount of cap space in order to bring in someone to their team for the stretch run. If the Canucks did not retain any money on Miller, Pittsburgh would be on the hook for the full brunt of his future contract...If they were to acquire him, which hasn’t happened yet. And, in fact, the Pens might be adding to that cap space in a major way with the news that they have placed Brock McGinn and Mark Friedman on waivers. (If all these stars are aligning, it could possibly be a bad sign that Pittsburgh couldn’t shoehorn McGinn and his full $2.75 million contract into a possible trade to Vancouver. Miller is a player that would certainly make waves for the Pens. Up until this point, or last week when the Pens waived Kasperi Kapanen, it has been a season totally devoid of any outside roster transactions for them. However, just days before Friday’s NHL trade deadline, it looks like business is seriously about to pick up in Pittsburgh — whether it’s J.T. In another piece of news, Shayna Goldman had this bit of information. But they could be revisited prior to Friday’s trade deadline. Miller, the standout Canucks forward who tallied 99 points last season, two league sources told the Post-Gazette. That runs the risk of peering fairly deep into the tea leaves at this point and still something that could happen — possibly with an early step being Vancouver doesn’t particularly want him and would be happier if a different team claimed him on waivers, but short of that if there are no takers might still take McGinn on in a trade if necessary.) If both clear and are assigned to the AHL, Pittsburgh gains $1.125 million from McGinn’s contract and $750k from Friedman — boosting their cap space to bring acquire around $3.8 million in salary for the rest of the season.

With the game tied 1-1 at 11:00 of the third, the Preds were unable to generate much offense.

[ The Penguins signed him on the first day of free agency, July 28, 2021. I thought they all handled it really professionally.” Coach Mike Sullivan and captain Sidney Crosby praised McGinn afterward. For a team that had only $18,000 of cap space not long ago, the money opens doors, but perhaps not as many as if McGinn had been claimed. Tuesday, GM Ron Hextall placed offensively struggling winger Brock McGinn on waivers, less than two years after signing him to a four-year contract with a $2.75 million AAV.
