ANALYSIS: Beware of NHL trade deadline inflation (Globalnews.ca)

You know, gas, groceries — everything has gone up. Well, you can now include the cost of doing business in the National Hockey League to that list as well.

Friday, it’s not likely — because, like our economy, inflation only knows one direction, and that’s up. You know, gas, groceries — everything has gone up. Well, you can now include the cost of doing business in the National Hockey League to that list as well.

NHL trade deadline rumor tracker: Details on Patrick Kane ... (Sporting News AU)

The Sporting News is tracking all of the latest news and trades ahead of the 2023 NHL trade deadline.

Calls of the trade must be sent to the league office by 3 p.m. Both were pending UFAs and neither came to terms on an extension with the Capitals. The Chychrun saga in Arizona continues and at this point, we just want a deal to be done. After being held out of the Blackhawks' 4-3 OT win over the Sharks on Saturday, it appears that the Rangers are destined to win the Patrick Kane sweepstakes. Among the options Ken Holland is grinding away on with the deadline looming.— Darren Dreger (@DarrenDreger) The Kings remain in play for the 24-year-old defenseman, but the Capitals and Hurricanes are reportedly in the mix as well, according to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period. The Blues have reportedly been looking to move on from one of their defensemen with both Parayko and Torey Krug in rumors. Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff reported that the deal for Kane to the Rangers is going to be completed tonight with a three-team trade call. Columbus already has Elvis Merzlikins and Daniil Tarasov to finish out the year. Moving target on the likelihood of Boeser being traded by the Canucks. The Sharks [moved Timo Meier](https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nhl/news/timo-meier-trade-devils-sharks-deadline/fj1qocnkg45oqfbep74nkify) to the Devils in a massive trade that greatly improved New Jersey. While there is still time before the deadline for teams to make a deal, numerous clubs have already made big splashes.

The top-20 NHL trade targets headed into the 2023 deadline (For The Win)

The weekend has come and gone, with quite a number of trades already in the pipe after a busy few days of deals. These last few days alone saw Patrick Kane, ...

For a depth forward with some scoring upside, Lafferty would be a solid addition to a team’s bottom-six. With 10 goals and 21 points in 51 games, Lafferty is having himself quite the season and has put himself on the trade block because of it. As an upcoming free agent, van Riemsdyk is an attractive rental piece for any team looking to beef up their offense. The Flyers forward is a streaky point scorer (nine goals and 23 points in 39 games played) but is effective at camping out at the front of the net and getting those greasy goals. That being said, Karlsson is an offensive game-changer on the back end for any contending team and would net quite the haul for San Jose as well. While Klingberg’s recent numbers haven’t impressed, he could very well rebound once he’s not on one of the NHL’s worst teams this year. Klingberg’s bounced around since leaving Dallas in free agency last year, and any team that acquires him at the deadline likely sees him as just a rental given his UFA status this summer. Still, if you’re in the market for high quality defensemen, it is the price you have to pay. While stay-at-home defensemen don’t always get the big spotlight during the trade deadline, Vladislav Gavrikov is as steady as they come on the back end. Kane’s cap hit will likely be a deterrent for some, but Chicago has more than enough room to retain salary on his $10.5 million cap hit. With 16 goals and 45 points in 54 games, Kane has been the Plus, Chychrun is on an affordable deal that has two more years remaining after this season ends.

What deadline? NHL trades are coming fast and furious | CBC Sports (CBC.ca)

With a flurry of trades already, CBC Sports' daily newsletter looks at where Canada's NHL teams stand ahead of Friday's 3 p.m. ET deadline.

[blowing a two-goal lead](https://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/nhl/winnipeg-jets-los-angeles-kings-recap-nhl-feb-28-1.6763643?cmp=newsletter_The%20Buzzer_8504_917398) last night to the Kings. The Canucks already played their biggest card with the Bo Horvat deal to the Islanders, and they also got a third-rounder from the Leafs for Schenn. With that playoff spot now in peril, a Friday-Saturday home-and-home against the Oilers, with whom the Jets are tied in the standings, looms large. This morning, Jonathan Quick, the goalie who won two Stanley Cups over 16 years with the Kings, was [relocated to Columbus](https://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/nhl/jonathan-quick-nhl-trade-roundup-1.6764205?cmp=newsletter_The%20Buzzer_8504_917398). Still, a young team finally getting to play meaningful games probably deserves some sort of deadline boost — Back-to-back wins against Detroit this week slotted Ottawa five points shy of a wild-card spot, but with teams still left to leapfrog, its postseason chances remain slim. The frustrating season was encapsulated last night when the Flames outshot the Bruins 57-20 but League-leading Boston — owner of a ridiculous +97 goal differential and a 13-point lead on the Presidents' Trophy — would possibly await in round 2. The scoring should be boosted by the imminent return from injury of Evander Kane, but the crease looks to be a much tougher fix. But Winnipeg now finds itself getting booed on home ice and riding a four-game losing streak after Outgoing were a pair of Toronto's own first-rounders, defenceman Rasmus Sandin and forwards Pierre Engvall and Joey Anderson. On Monday, I wrote that the NHL's trade deadline day "could be a dud," since many of the top targets had already been picked off the market.
