“Snowy Day,” by Lee Chang-dong (The New Yorker)

The only things he can see now are snow and barbed wire. There's nothing left in the world but barbed wire.”

“It’s the thing that is the easiest yet hardest thing to find in the world. In that moment, the woman whispered to the private, “Let’s go up.” She ran up to the conductor, pulling him by the arm. After the singing, the women and the soldiers played a game in which they were paired up as couples, and it was just his luck that she was his partner. The conductor was a man, but the choir was all young women, and most of them seemed to be college students. “I’m not kidding!” the corporal says, his voice harsh. “Want to hear a funny story?” The corporal seems talkative now, for some reason. “He started drinking a lot after you entered the service,” his brother said behind him, his voice hoarse and faltering. As the private was about to leave, the C.O. The day before returning to the base, he went to Seoul. Under the falling snow, the private feels as if the two of them were the sole survivors of a shipwreck, clinging to a rotten plank in a vast ocean. As we transitioned into university students, Snow Days started to stop meaning a day to play in the snow and started meaning a day to breathe, to catch up, to be gifted a break. Since the pandemic, however, our technological advancements have resulted in the Snow Days' undoing.

After one school bus slid off the road and another got stuck in the snow during recent storms, a concerned parent sent a letter to the school district ...

The bus that was stuck in the snow had chains in use, Sluis said in an email Tuesday (Feb. And they always try to play the call-you-back game so that it’s off the record. There are equity issues because many spots in the county have “very poor” Wi-Fi – so the students cannot connect – while other students lack the necessary equipment (despite the district providing students with Google Chromebooks). Sluis added that the roads were clear and it was not snowing at 4:30 a.m. A team from the district’s transportation department pulled the bus out and the students were on their way within 20 minutes. Ten children were taken to the hospital with minor and moderate injuries. The district felt it was more important to have staff attend a workshop on ‘hope’ so they can ‘instill hope into our children,’” Sullivan wrote. At the same time the bus became stuck in the snow, another bus had mechanical issues related to its air compressor, the statement said. 23), a bus carrying seven students from Sunnyside Elementary, Escalante Middle and Durango High schools became stuck in a foot of snow on County Road 303, the statement continued. Another bus picked up the students within 20 minutes and continued on the route. The bus was traveling slowly and no one was injured.
