Gamethread # 60: Canucks vs Stars (Nucks Misconduct)

The Canucks played a decent game against Boston...except for a 5 minute period at the end of the first....oh, and letting the goalie score against you.

I’m sure he can play 1st line wing minutes, but I’m not sure how many teams want to $8 million/yr for that. I’m sure some teams would ask but are they really interested in taking $8 million a year for 2nd line player. These two teams get to meet 3 times this year in the span of 4 weeks. The Stars seem to have found their speed and skill again this year and the Nucks will be hard-pressed to keep up with them. The trade deadline inches closer and for some reason, J.T. The Canucks played a decent game against Boston...except for a 5 minute period at the end of the first....oh, and letting the goalie score against you.

After missing 35 games to injury, Demko was calm and controlled, but often under siege.

He then had goalie Jake Oettinger beat to the far glove side with a toe-drag move and laser shot that just went wide for his second career hat trick. His first goal was about reading the play and being in the right place to pounce on a rebound. Hintz then got his revenge on a 2-on-1 power play advantage. However, the Stars’ fifth breakaway off a Canucks line change made it 3-2. And as his puck tracking and positioning improved, Demko made a vintage cross-crease move late in the first period to deny a Benn backhander. “It was three or four guys with puck management — we’ve got to get them in deep,” stressed Tocchet. “With how much work he put in, he didn’t miss a beat,” said Canucks coach Rick Tocchet. “It took everything I’ve learned over my entire career — both mentally and physically — to kind of get ready for this one. In the second period, the Stars had four-consecutive power plays and a 20-3 shot advantage. After a lengthy review, it was ruled that Beauviller had puck control on his move. It wasn’t about the Vitali Kravtsov arrival or the Riley Stillman departure or the J.T.

The answer to that last question, to the surprise of many, was “pretty well!” Well, not exactly, but with the help of Thatcher Demko, the Canucks were right in ...

But it was a good goal and the Canucks won in the end by a final score of 5-4. If the Canucks were going to be in this game, they were going to need their top line to put in a lot of work, and that’s what happened tonight. And of course, neither does Andrei Kuzmenko, the anti-tank missile himself. The show will be live on And nothing really happened before Andrei Kuzmenko ended this one in a blink of an eye. Demko was excellent tonight, and the Canucks wasted little time in welcoming him back to the starter’s crease by reminding him exactly what it’s like to backstop this team.

With their net empty, Dallas tied at 19:22 thanks to a wicked wrist shot from [Roope Hintz](https://news.sportsinteraction.com/nhl/player/roope-hintz-6410) (24th), who then scored the shootout winning goal, handing Dallas a memorable 3-2 win. [Jack Eichel](https://news.sportsinteraction.com/nhl/player/jack-eichel-6363) slotted home his 20th on a slick, highlight-reel worthy goal at 15:23 of the third period, one got the sense that that was all she wrote. In a wild, intense, bitter affair, Peter DeBoer’s men found the resolve required to grab a victory in enemy territory, against a great team, and with a lot on the line. On a night when Vancouver had solid goaltending for once, Boston’s [Linus Ullmark](https://news.sportsinteraction.com/nhl/player/linus-ullmark-4937) scored in an empty-net seal the deal 3-1. Andrei Kuzmenko scored 48 seconds into overtime to give the Vancouver Canucks a 5-4 win against the Dallas Stars at American Airlines Center on Monday.

NOTES: Vitali Kravtsov had one shot on goal in 8:53 of ice time in his debut with Vancouver after being acquired in a trade with the New York Rangers on Saturday. ... Dadonov (33 years, 352 days) became the oldest player to score in his Stars debut since Jaromir Jagr (40 years, 339 days) on Jan. Obviously, the four power plays we gave them in the second really hurt us, but we didn't bend, and obviously Demko was great." I wanted to make sure I had that confidence in my body before I was fully back in the lineup and playing a game. He was playing his first game for Dallas since being acquired in a trade with the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday. "I thought in the first period we held our own. "A little bit of nerves, a little bit of anxiety, just making sure you're ready to go and coming back in. When you know what a guy is going to do, that makes your game much easier." You hope maybe you get the call, but I would expect that to count if we had scored the goal." "It seems like [Wyatt Johnston] knows where I'm going, and he made a nice pass. We've just got to help him out better, protect that middle much more than we did today." "That's what I thought, that's why I left the bench," Stars coach Peter DeBoer said.

NHL Best Bets: Canucks vs. Stars Game Picks (NESN.com)

Two teams looking to find consistency to end February collide tonight, with the Vancouver Canucks visiting the Dallas Stars.

They both score at a similar clip, but the Stars sit second in the goals allowed per game, while the Canucks are 31st. Over the Canucks’ last five games, they’ve seen six or more goals scored in three, while the Stars have seen that in just one. The Vancouver Canucks have a 3-5-2 record over their last ten games, while the Stars are 3-3-4. It’s hard to have confidence in either team, with how they are playing right now, especially the Canucks. Even though there’s significant distance between the Canucks and Stars in the standings, both teams have been struggling lately. It’s hard to get excited about the Stars when you look at their moneyline price and lackluster play.
