The APEX played host to a women's strawweight matchup on Saturday night at UFC Vegas 70 as undefeated prospect Tatiana Suarez returned after nearly three.

Suarez did little to stray from her gameplan in the second, closing the distance quickly and dragging De La Rosa to the mat, and immediately moving into side control. Suarez refused to let go, continuing to press her opponent against the fence while delivering knees and strikes to the body of De La Rosa as the first five minutes came to a close. Tatiana Suarez closed the distance early and pushed De La Rosa to the fence before completing a single-leg takedown.

There were one or two moments when De La Rosa broke free when she wasn’t supposed to, but that’s the name of the game. Suarez likely had some cobwebs to dust off in her first UFC fight since 2019, but you couldn’t really tell.

Almost four years is a crazy amount of time to miss for a fighter, so there’s a real question as to how Suarez will look in the cage. She finally feels healthy and will be excited to make her return in this fight. Suarez was able to transition to the back, but De La Rosa found just enough space to scramble up, driving Suarez into the cage. De La Rosa kept her guard closed, and scooted back to the fence. From there, they moved to the fence, Suarez driving De La Rosa up against it.

Despite a valiant effort to break free, De La Rosa eventually had to tap out as Suarez moved to 9-0 in her career with a perfect 6-0 campaign in the UFC. From there, Suarez methodically started working her ground and pound game with De La Rosa trying to scramble back to her feet. The end came at 2:51 in the second round after Suarez latched onto the choke with no plans of letting go until De La Rosa either tapped or went to sleep.
