Metro Vancouver approves regional plan focused on transit-oriented ... (Daily Hive)

Metro Vancouver Regional District has approved its Metro 2050 regional strategic plan for accommodating one million more residents.

Continued strong growth is also expected to occur in the South of Fraser East — consisting of Surrey, Langley City, Langley Township, and White Rock. The Burrard Peninsula sub-region — entailing Vancouver, University Endowment Lands, Burnaby, and New Westminster — is forecast to account for about one third of the region’s entire population growth. Overall, the region’s housing and employment growth will occur within 98% of the land area that is designated as within the urban containment boundary — where urban development occur, outside protected farm land, green space, and other natural areas. The plan prescribes a possible combination of residential uses above industrial and commercial uses for such sites. Metro Vancouver is a major urban area in North America, but it is also amongst its smallest geographically. This represents a growth pace of about 35,000 additional residents per year. Furthermore, the region has set a goal of having at least 15% of all new homes within urban centres and along frequent transit centres be affordable rental housing. Such regional plans are updated about once a decade, with the previous plan, Metro Vancouver 2040, approved in 2011. “The adoption of this plan is a significant achievement. I know we all believe that together we make our region strong,” said George Harvie, chair of the regional district’s board, and the mayor of the City of Delta. 'This could be the year we achieve something': Vancouver ... (Globalnews.ca)

Vanni Sartini and his Vancouver Whitecaps coaching staff wanted to give their players a little time off as they prepared for the Major League Soccer season ...

THE OUTS: Vancouver opted against picking up the options on a number of players after last year, including Canadian striker Lucas Cavallini and veteran defender Jake Nerwinski. In mid-May, the ‘Caps will start their Canadian Championship title defence as the tournament’s second round starts. “To win games we need to score goals,” the coach said. We’ll be going into the majority of games expecting from ourselves that we’re capable of winning.” They’ll also take part in the revamped Leagues Cup between MLS and Liga MX sides from July 21 through Aug. The club will begin its CONCACAF Champions League journey in Vancouver against Honduran side Real Espana on March 3. Striker Sergio Cordova, who signed a three-year designated player deal with the club on Monday, led Real Salt Lake with 11 goals across 34 appearances last year. And if we did that a little bit earlier, I think we would have put ourselves in a better position.” CALENDAR CRUNCH: The Whitecaps are set for a busy 2023 campaign, with three tournaments as well as MLS games. “Everyone feels this could be the year that we achieve something. “It was a difficult year for me personally. “So we want to continue at that point, we want to continue with that performance and we want to be even better with the new signings.”

Vancouver Whitecaps Opening Day Predictions (Eighty Six Forever)

Who will be the team's MVP in 2023? Caleb: Ryan Gauld. Andrew: Ryan Gauld. Ian: Andres Cubas. Sam: Julian Gressel. Yes, I'm going a bit off ...

Sam: Gutierrez is the obvious one given the depth at the position and the past history of the relationship with the club going a bit off the rails. Offers from the Dusseldorfs and Genks of the world may be too big to pass up. Mining the Japanese league for talent was a shrewd move on behalf of the Whitecaps but equally, I think Thomas Hasal will have a bounce back season and still play a big role given the multiple competitions Vancouver will be involved in. If Vancouver becomes a vertical counter-attacking team in the way I expect they will, Ahmed is a good tactical fit so long as he can hit the ground running and carve out some minutes for himself. That being said, he is already 22, so there’s a bit of pressure on him to prove he can take the next step. This is probably the best setup he has found himself in since his early Atlanta days so I think it could be a great situation for him, especially with an aerial threat like Cordova up front.

“We could have been two or three up by the time they they got the first goal, so everybody’s frustrated. If we don’t take our chances, then we’re not going to win games. A Vancouver visit offers stunning city sights & natural wonders (Boston Herald)

While Vancouver has a vibrant downtown with skyscrapers, a cab or (free) bus ride just six miles or so north takes you to the other Vancouver; the part with ...

Just downhill a bit (via an easy-to-hop city bus from the base of Grouse) we visited the Capilano Suspension Bridge Park (https://www.capbridge.com). We chose Glowbal (https://glowbalgroup.com/glowbal/), one of the city’s most heralded restaurants, for our first dinner. We started with their famed cheese bread and were hooked. What I didn’t know was the rest of it: a journey deep into the rainforest via low paths, high suspension bridges and a cliff walk would offer so many “wow” moments. Or the breathtaking vistas. Or the waterfalls. Day two was about nature – a strange goal when visiting a city. She was right) to Asian meals to, of course, dock fresh seafood made countless ways, we noshed our way along the waterfront spot. Tucked into the West End, it placed us steps from museums, galleries, incredible dining and shopping. We started up at Grouse Mountain (https://www.grousemountain.com), a ski spot worth a visit if just for the gondola ride up and a meal at the top. I’d pass by cityscapes, mountains, wide ocean bays and tall trees on my way elsewhere and think “that looks incredible; like it needs to be part of this trip.” “Just trust me on this.” I did.
