Bruins Acquire Shane Bowers (prohockeyrumors.com)

The Boston Bruins have acquired Shane Bowers from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for Keith Kinkaid.

However, he has just 11 of those over the past three years as he has settled in as a veteran third-stringer. As for Kinkaid, the 33-year-old is a veteran of 168 career NHL appearances over parts of 10 seasons. He’s also on a one-year, two-way deal worth the minimum in the NHL although his AHL pay is considerably higher at $450K. The subtraction of Kinkaid partially clears up a logjam between the pipes with AHL Providence who are now down to two goalies on the roster plus Both teams have announced the move and have confirmed that the players have been sent down to their respective minor league clubs. The 2017 first-round pick has spent the bulk of the year in the minors, picking up 14 points in 37 games with AHL Colorado.

Both players have spent most of the season in the AHL while also receiving one-game callups.

Kinkaid has also played with Montreal and the New York Rangers and served as Columbus’ third goalie to close out 2018-19. An NCAA champion in 2018, Bowers struggled to find consistency and stay healthy in the AHL, recording a career-high 27 points as a rookie in 2019-20. Kinkaid split time as New Jersey’s starter in 2017-18 and 2018-19 and led USA to a bronze medal at the 2018 World Championship.

The Bruins traded goaltender Kieth Kinkaid for 23-year-old forward Shane Bowers on Saturday.

Kinkaid, 33, leaves Boston having played one season with the Bruins. The trade reunites him with New England after spending two seasons at Boston University. Bowers spent the majority of his nearly five-year professional career in the AHL with the Colorado Eagles, totalling 27 goals and 34 assists for 59 points.

With Pavel Francouz banged up, we could possibly see Kinkaid in the lineup relatively soon. He was acquired by the Avalanche in the same trade that shipped Matt Duchene to Canada. Annunen did win that game but it’s possible the Avalanche don’t feel he’s ready to take on the bigger role.
