'Google has decided that they'd rather prevent Canadians from accessing news than actually paying journalists for the work they do.'
That revenue could fund nearly a third of news content creation in Canada. Earlier this week, The Canadian Press reported that Google was blocking news stories from showing up in some people’s search results and in its “discover” feature on Android devices. He told reporters there was “another issue that I just wanted to make mention of that is bothering me.”
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says he is bothered that Google is limiting access to news for some Canadians.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responded to Google testing the imposition of limits on Canadians' access to news sites.
I think that’s a terrible mistake and I know Canadians expect journalists to be well paid for the work they do.”—Justin Trudeau Google’s actions came in response to the federal government’s proposed online news legislation, “It really surprises me that Google has decided that they would rather prevent Canadians from accessing news than actually paying journalists for the work they do.
Just trust him, that's Justin Trudeau's message on claims of election interference by China in the 2019 and 2021 campaigns.
They need to turn over any documents on this issue not only to the committee but the Commissioner of Canada Elections as well to launch a full investigation. Even if one candidate was elected or defeated due to interference by China, or any other country, Canadians deserve to know about it. I agree with Trudeau that China wants to sow confusion and mistrust. It’s a baseless claim founded in pure partisan political games, something Trudeau warned against just the day before as something that helps China. We know that China has been interfering in Canada’s internal affairs for years, including attempting to have an impact on our elections. Article content
The sane people the Liberals need to vote for them next time around aren't going to be impressed by any of this born-to-rule nonsense.
And the party seems entirely oblivious to the problem. Does that sound like something Donald J. “This is the same Trump-type tactics to question election results.” “And amplifying, and giving reasons, giving partisan reasons to mistrust the outcome of an election, mistrust the experts at Elections Canada and in our security services and our top public servants who are saying that the election integrity held — that’s something that we’ve seen from elsewhere (that) is not a good path to go down for society or for democracy.” If the Liberals’ Roxham Road performance is dismal, however, its response to recent reports of organized Chinese interference in Canadian federal elections could be more existentially damaging. The prime minister Trudeau portrays on Twitter and on the international busybody circuit would welcome the Roxham Roaders with open arms. Trudeau called Poilievre’s idea “simplistic,” insisting “the only way to effectively shut down not just Roxham Road, but the entire border, to these irregular crossings is to renegotiate the Safe Third Country Agreement (STCA)” with the United States (which only allows asylum-seekers to enter Canada from the U.S. Responding to Legault and Poilievre, Immigration Minister Sean Fraser Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre agrees, demanding this week that the flow be stopped within 30 days. Canadians’ (and particularly Quebecers’) preternatural patience with the parade marching past the “it is illegal to cross here” sign at Roxham Road may be coming to an end. Justin Trudeau keeps digging himself a deeper hole on the issue of Chinese meddling in Canadian elections. When troubling reports came out in November, ...
The essence of it was that the Star might have been manipulated by Ford’s office. That would go some way to reassuring Canadians about the integrity of their electoral system. How about kicking some of the (way too many) accredited Chinese diplomats out of the country? On another matter of trust: The much-maligned “mainstream media” have been doing pretty darn well lately. You’d think anyone with a sincere interest in the media would applaud this excellent journalism. The fact that their efforts didn’t change the overall result is hardly the end of the story. It keeps saying how seriously it takes the situation, but after literally years of warnings there’s scant evidence of any concrete action to stop it. “When we lean in on partisanship around this,” he said this week, “we’re actually helping them in doing their work of sowing confusion and mistrust.” How about finally setting up a registry of foreign agents, as many have called for? Lately he’s been arguing we shouldn’t worry much because China didn’t actually affect the outcome of our elections. They were out there trying, and we really have no idea what effect they might have had in some ridings. When troubling reports came out in November, he first said it was nothing new.
The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) covertly influenced Canada's 2019 and 2021 federal general elections in order to re-elect a Liberal government.
Last week the MPs voted to expand their hearings to include the latest news of the 2021 election campaign. Now the head of that Liberal government is telling Canadians to not worry. - The Globe and Mail’s lead editorial this week was “Stand up to China, Mr. The news story begins: “China employed a sophisticated strategy to disrupt Canada’s democracy in the 2021 federal election campaign as Chinese diplomats and their proxies backed the re-election of Justin Trudeau’s Liberals – but only to another minority government – and worked to defeat Conservative politicians considered to be unfriendly to Beijing.” Global News reporter Sam Cooper has also come forward with evidence of a 2017 memo prepared for the PM that specifically warns of CCP’s influence on Canadian officials and institutions. PM Trudeau’s immediate response to the Globe and Mail’s front page stories was to ignore the substance of the revelations, and he expressed concern over CSIS’s leaked reports. For years Trudeau and his ministers have downplayed suggestions of foreign interference in Canada’s elections. For days the Globe and Mail ran a series of articles outlining a number of disturbing facts obtained from top-secret Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) documents leaked to the paper. Poilievre went on to say, “Justin Trudeau knew about this interference and he covered it up because he benefited from it. The details being exposed about the CCP’s support for the Trudeau Liberals involve the integrity of our country’s democratic process. As recently released CSIS documents reveal, the CCP went to great lengths to influence the outcome of Canada’s two latest federal elections. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau does not want Canadians to know about the Chinese operations in Canada.

Today marks one year since the beginning of the Russian invasion. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced more support for Ukraine.
Former chief electoral officer Jean-Pierre Kingsley called for an inquiry this week to help restore trust in the Canadian electoral system.
Highly classified CSIS reports in 2021 said the Chinese state is targeting all levels of government from municipal to provincial to federal. The report said the service’s understanding of China’s foreign interference network in the Greater Toronto Area is based on more than a decade of observation. It assessed that at least 11 candidates in the 2019 election were the target of foreign interference. “It is astonishing the Prime Minister would downplay interference by the CCP on the basis that it didn’t effect the overall outcome of the elections. “While that interference may not have impacted the overall outcome it does not negate the fact that election results in certain ridings may have been impacted.” Then he said that there was no secret to what China was up to in the last two elections. He also accused the opposition parties of playing partisan politics and helping to undermine Canadians’ faith in the electoral process. The documents also say Beijing directed Chinese students studying in Canada to work as campaign volunteers, and illegally returned portions of donations so donors were not out of pocket after claiming a tax receipt. He said Canadians must be able to “trust that the electoral process is not being tampered with by a foreign government.” The Prime Minister said he was referring to comments made by his national security adviser Jody Thomas in December in reference to a report by Global News. “Right now no documents will be produced to the committee,” he said. Thomas told a parliamentary committee in December “that we have not seen money going to 11 candidates, period.”

The Prime Minister will deliver remarks and hold a media availability to mark the one-year anniversary of Russia's brutal war in Ukraine.
The new military support comes one year after Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine.
He wanted to threaten and weaken NATO and democracies around the world, but today we are stronger and more unified than ever.” According to the government, Canadian forces have also trained 35,000 Ukrainian personnel. Friday’s announcement brings the total number of the German-designed tanks Canada has contributed to eight. Afterwards, the G7 leaders released a lengthy statement that reaffirmed their “unwavering support” for Ukraine and efforts to “ensure Russia pays for Ukraine’s long-term reconstruction.” On Friday, the prime minister also said Canada would impose more than a hundred new sanctions, including against Russian parliamentarians, members of Putin’s office, Russian military personnel and the defence industry. Since the war began last February, Canada has committed more than $5 billion of support to Ukraine, including more than $1 billion in military aid.

To increase pressure on Putin’s regime, the Prime Minister announced that Canada is imposing new sanctions on individuals and entities complicit in Russia’s ongoing war against Ukraine. This includes contributions to demining and accountability efforts, as well as countering chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats that jeopardize the safety of the entire region. Prime Minister Trudeau announced that Canada will provide four additional Leopard 2 main battle tanks to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine in defence of their country, growing our contribution to eight tanks in total. The Government of Canada will stand with the people of Ukraine for as long as it takes. The Ukrainian people have bravely stood up to the Russian regime, in defence of their sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence – and our shared values of democracy and freedom.
