The Devils have never been this exciting and the Jets will hopefully be able to have a good game against them. The Devils have had some tough seasons, but have been better this year. The Devils have had a nice bounce back season following a rough season last year if I remember correctly.

Division rivals gaining ground on Jets after late letdown vs. Devils (Sportsnet.ca)

While the Winnipeg Jets insist they can't worry about anything other than getting their collective game in order, it's impossible to ignore the fact that ...

“We’ve done a lot of hard work and done a lot of good things. I want to keep things positive and keep things on the right side,” said Hellebuyck. We had time to make a play and we didn’t make a play. “It was a couple turnovers and they capitalized,” said Hellebuyck. I probably could have played last game but it wasn’t the smartest thing to do. I was definitely gassed and not feeling well, really under the weather. We've got to focus on what a good Winnipeg Jets game looks like and there's still lots of games left." "This could be a bad stretch," Hellebuyck said. We get over that, get going north and get skating again, we’ll get going again. You know those teams are good and you've got to keep winning to stay where you are,” said Jets centre Mark Scheifele, who notched a pair of assists. Our puck management certainly got us in a lot of trouble. :You go back for those pucks in a 2-1 game, you can’t be turning them over.

[Alex pointed out here](https://www.allaboutthejersey.com/2023/2/18/23604376/good-teams-can-win-when-not-on-their-game), this is a hallmark of good teams, and I accept that. [At 5-on-5](https://www.naturalstattrick.com/teamtable.php?fromseason=20222023&thruseason=20222023&stype=2&sit=5v5&score=all&rate=y&team=all&loc=B&gpf=410&fd=&td=), they concede the 7th fewest goals per 60, have the 12th best corsi against per 60, are 19th in xG against per 60, and give up the 10th fewest high-danger chances against per 60. [5-on-5 run of play, per NaturalStattrick](https://www.naturalstattrick.com/teamtable.php), the Jets are a slightly below-average team, being 12th in goals-for percentage, 19th in corsi-for percentage, 19th in xG-for percentage, and 16th in high-danger chances-for percentage. The bright red spot in from of the opposition’s net in the top-right panel shows that the Jets, thanks to Morrissey’s individual play, are getting a well-above league-average number of high-danger looks from the crease area. I will refer back to this in the following sections when discussing the Jets roster. If we look at what the Jets are predicted to do this year, [MoneyPuck’s projections](https://www.moneypuck.com/predictions.htm) currently have them with a 93.9% chance of making the playoffs, and a 12.4% probability of being the best team out of the West, making the Stanley cup final. Winnipeg Jets vs. New Jersey Devils Prediction, NHL Odds (Sports Interaction)

The Winnipeg Jets are looking to get back in the win column as they make their second stop of a four-game Eastern Conference swing Sunday night, ...

Vitek Vanecek returned to the goal after a night off and stopped 29 of 31 shots for his 24th win of the season. The biggest star in last night’s game was definitely Nico Hischier though scoring a pair of goals and adding two assists. David Rittich got the start in goal and played pretty well, stopping 21 of 23 shots in the loss. They have given up the second least amount of goals in the NHL and still have an offence sitting in the middle of the pack, averaging 3.1 goals per game. After rolling through a three-game win streak, the Winnipeg Jets came crashing back to reality, losing to the 30th-placed Blue Jackets on Thursday night. The Devils put five goals on the board last night, helping them hit the Over and snapping a four-game trend going the other way.

Devils score 3 in 3rd, defeat Jets (NHL.com)

Dawson Mercer scored twice for the New Jersey Devils, who rallied with three goals in the third period to defeat the Winnipeg Jets 4-2 at Prudential Center ...

"I passed it over there, two of them were there, and I was just happy to see the puck go in, celebrate it," Mercer said. "I like where my game is at and, obviously, I'll continue to try and build it every game, every practice," Blackwood said. "I'd like to see some of our lines just gain a little bit of chemistry right now," Ruff said. "In playoffs, that's where we get hard-nosed and kill time. Miles Wood then gave the Devils a 3-2 lead at 6:53. We play right until the end of the buzzer." Fabian Zetterlund tied it 2-2 at 5:02 of the third period. "We know we can protect a lead when we have it, but we can also get it back when we're trailing when we stick to our game, and that's really been working for us lately. "We were missing passes and we didn't execute as much as we should have. "I think the biggest issue has been how we manage the puck. Then, when you play a skilled team like that, they made some plays." "We talked about this before we started the little streak we've been on ...

It was a lead New Jersey refused to relinquish. It was a fair result after the Jets had begun to live beyond their means. The Devils tightened their grip on the neutral zone and pinned Winnipeg deep on a number of shifts. The Devils generally bossed proceedings while Winnipeg had to create danger through rapid counters. Things appeared to break for Winnipeg when Cole Perfetti collected a juicy rebound off of Blackwood to make it 1-0. Thankfully, Helly was sharp on the handful of chances the Devils were able to sneak through.

4 Takeaways From Devils' 4-2 Win vs. the Jets (The Hockey Writers)

While Dawson Mercer did pot two yesterday, the team's depth scorers led the comeback in the third period. Down 2-1, Erik Haula forced a turnover behind the net ...

They trail the Hurricanes by three points for first place, though Carolina has a game in hand on both the Devils and Rangers. Hughes hit iron twice in one shift, and Bratt hit the crossbar on a breakaway a few shifts later in the second period. The Devils have another busy week ahead of them, with games against the Montreal Canadiens, Los Angeles Kings and Philadelphia Flyers. They finished the night with an 89.44 xG% and out-chanced the Jets 5-2 when they were on the ice. The trade deadline is also less than two weeks away, with the Devils seemingly quite active on the market. [Jack Hughes returning](https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/2578268/jack-hughes-returns-after-4-game-injury-absence)from an upper-body injury against the Penguins, Ruff broke up the Yegor Sharangovich, Haula and Zetterlund line that had been playing so well, placing Ondrej Palát in Sharangovich’s spot with those two. While Palát, Haula and Zetterlund did team up for the game-tying goal, that trio finished with an 8.91 xG%. That’s all the Devils need from him the rest of the way, given Vanecek has been a top-10 netminder in the NHL this season. The play started with Michael McLeod getting in on the forecheck and knocking the puck off Dylan DeMelo’s stick. Tatar and Hischier have always played well together, but placing Mercer alongside them was a new wrinkle Ruff hadn’t used in the past. Down 2-1, Erik Haula forced a turnover behind the net and fed Fabian Zetterlund in a prime shooting position in the slot, where he one-timed the game-tying goal. 1, the Devils have had to rely on their top-six to score.
