Why Disney Moved 'The Marvels' Back to November (IndieWire)

Summer 2023 is already crowded, and it would've been 10 months between Marvel movies if it stuck in July.

The individual suggested to IndieWire that means a more conscious focus on how to provide bigger windows for franchise films and shows, as well as taking a holistic look at the entire slate of what comes out of Disney Entertainment. Also appealing: given Disney’s current rollout of new films to Disney+, “Haunted Mansion” should hit Disney+ right around Halloween, exactly when “Hocus Pocus 2” made a killing on the service. [Disney](https://www.indiewire.com/t/disney/) and [Marvel](https://www.indiewire.com/t/marvel/) have bumped back the release of “ [The Marvels](https://www.indiewire.com/t/the-marvels/),” the direct sequel to both “ [Captain Marvel](https://www.indiewire.com/t/captain-marvel/)” and the series “Ms. The trade-off in terms of what other films “The Marvels” is competing against at the box office might be a wash. With “The Marvels,” a July slot would have placed the film’s release a little more than two months after the release of the next MCU film on the calendar, “Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. Justin Simien directs “Haunted Mansion.” “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” opened in that slot in 2022 and made $855 million worldwide. Disney Pushes Back 'The Marvels' Release Date Again but Offers A ... (Pirates and Princesses)

Higher. Further. Faster. Together. Check out the brand-new teaser poster for Marvel Studios' The Marvels, coming to theaters November 10.

Disney has announced that they will be spreading out the Marvel films and shows more and this could be part of the reason ‘The Marvels’ was pushed back from July until November. The July 28, 2023 date would have put ‘The Marvels’ between ‘Barbie’ and ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem’ but now Disney is putting their new ‘Haunted Mansion’ film in that slot to give ‘The Marvels’ the November slot ahead of Thanksgiving. The movie was supposed to be out last year, and until now, the only time anything has been shown was at D23. The latest Ant-Man film is not expected to perform very well and that is with it not facing much competition until ‘Cocaine Bear’ comes out next week. That spot was given to ‘Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania’ and ‘The Marvels’ was pushed back again to July 28, 2023. They literally took out a Marvel film from a summer date to replace it with their ‘Haunted Mansion’ movie.
