Given how many other contracts are expiring on the Detroit roster, it makes sense that the front office will be trying to keep some of them. The defenseman has [signed a two-year contract extension](https://twitter.com/DetroitRedWings/status/1626250139961630720) worth a total of $6MM ($3MM AAV) that will keep him in Detroit through the 2024-25 season. Detroit Red Wings vs. Flames Game 54 Preview, Prediction, and Odds (Octopus Thrower)

The Detroit Red Wings are in a back-to-back in Alberta as the road trip continues. They're looking for a win against the Flames in Calgary.

The Red Wings have a +205 payout on the Moneyline and have a -135 payout at +1.5 on the Puck Line. I like the Red Wings to take it home against Calgary before things slow up on the road trip. Creating better-scoring chances than they did in the last match-up is vital for the Red Wings to find success. It was a bit of a lackluster performance last Thursday, even though the Red Wings came out on top. The Detroit Red Wings continue to get the offense rolling. If the Red Wings can keep things going the way they have, they really do have a chance to pick up their fifth straight.

Detroit Red Wings extend Olli Määttä for two years, $6 million. Why it ... (Detroit Free Press)

Defenseman Olli Määttä has grown his game while with the Detroit Red Wings, and that has led to a two-year contract extension.

[[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]). Määttä has played 10 seasons between the Pittsburgh Penguins, Chicago Blackhawks, Kings and Red Wings since 2013-14, compiling 153 points (35 goals), a plus-75 rating and 144 penalty minutes in 583 games, in addition to 27 points (5-22-27), a plus-28 rating and 24 penalty minutes in 85 postseason games. Originally drafted by the Penguins 22nd overall in 2012, Määttä won back-to-back Stanley Cup championships with the organization in 2016 and 2017. He has played on the second or third pairing, showing a smart, simple game and taking advantage of jumping up in plays and contributing offensively. He backed that up by growing his game in his first year with the Wings, and that led to Thursday's announcement he has received a two-year, $6 million extension. The 6-foot-2, 207-pound native of Finland had spent the previous two seasons with the Los Angeles Kings, where he recorded 12 points (one goal), a plus-nine rating and 16 penalty minutes in 107 appearances from 2020-22.

Detroit Red Wings sign Olli Maatta to two-year extension (Yardbarker)

The Detroit Red Wings have signed defenseman Olli Maatta to a two-year contract extension with a cap hit of $3 million.

The Mets' contract offer to deGrom was in the ballpark of three years and $120 million, according to Joel Sherman of the New York Post. In a mock draft shared on Wednesday, ESPN's Todd McShay predicted the Bears will trade the first pick and not replace Fields in the upcoming draft. In the past two offseasons, the Mets signed veteran Max Scherzer to a three-year, $130 million contract and Justin Verlander to a two-year, $86.7 million deal. They're not (the first team to use this play) but they're one of the ones that do it at a high level and it was in the Super Bowl. "The other alternative is when they start pushing you to find a way to get your helmet right where his knee is so when they are pushing him forward his knee is driving into your helmet. As for the Suns, they just pushed all their chips to the center of the table by trading for Kevin Durant at the deadline. It is not the most savory but it's an effective way and that's why I think they'll change the rule first before they allow that because if I'm a DC that's the answer to it." So, if Karlsson is good to go on this deal and the Sharks are willing to retain as much as 40%, what is it that the Sharks want to agree to this? Moats says that the Eagles are putting Hurts in a position to be injured. Moats feel that this is part of a bigger issue in the NFL, saying they are forcing offense-heavy games on fans and hamstringing the defense. He was set to become an unrestricted free agency at the end of the deal. Maatta was selected 22nd overall in 2012 by the Pittsburgh Penguins and spent the first six seasons of his career in Pittsburgh, winning two Stanley Cups with them in 2016 and 2017.

Detroit Red Wings: Steady play of Olli Maatta warranted contract ... (Octopus Thrower)

Steve Yzerman and the Detroit Red Wings have rewarded the steady play of veteran defenseman Olli Maatta with a contract extension.

Chiarot has become a scapegoat to many Red Wings fans, but in the right situation, he wouldn’t be exposed nearly as often as it seems he is this season. You’d be looking at a first pairing of Walman/Seider, a second group of Maatta/Hronek, and a third pairing of Edvinsson/Chiarot. Bertuzzi will fetch an impactful return for the Red Wings and is far too talented to let walk as an unrestricted free agent this summer. Maatta has recorded five goals and 17 points over 49 games for the Red Wings this season—the 28-year-old averages just over 18 minutes of ice time per night while skating to a plus-five rating. It also helps that Maatta was willing to stay in Detroit for a fair price. Maatta gets a much-deserved bump in pay, along with some security for the next couple of seasons.

Be sure to check Betway for the latest Flames game NHL odds!...

When your hot – your hot and Dillon Dubé is smokin’. Even with a good rebound Calgary’s expectations should be around 3 to 4 goals. They are coming off a pretty big collapse though and I would mark this as a must win just so the doubt doesn’t start to pile up in the players heads. Detroit struggles to score and Vladar is getting the call – should bode well for the Flames.
