He viewed photos of the dog kennel crime scene and stated that things were not the way he left them that day. "I'm very particular how I roll that hose up," said the down-to-earth Hampton County resident, who lives just a mile and a half from the Moselle crime scene. He repeatedly asked the witness if it were possible that Paul was shot at contact range in the top of the head, while referencing a book titled "Gunshot Wounds" by Vincent J.M. Riemer's assessment of the angles, trajectory, and range in which the victims were shot, as well as the positions of their bodies when shot. The defense had objected to this line of questioning because it was “prejudicial” and “inflammatory.” Davis testified about how he took care of the animals and hosed out their pens and was very "particular" in how he did his job. Earlier in the day, the State called one of its own, Carson Burney, a forensic accountant with the State Grand Jury Division of the S.C. Burney testified about Murdaugh’s alleged financial crimes and his financial condition as several threats were bearing down on him in the week of the killings. Those crimes were also coming to a head of possible exposure about that time. We were living in fear and thought this horrible person was still out there.” Rules of Evidence 404(b), which sets a standard for what crimes and other “bad acts” are admissible in murder trials. Judge Newman will then hear arguments on the admissibility of further testimony involving Murdaugh’s roadside suicide plot.

[became the latest witness to identify](http://www.cnn.com/2023/02/08/us/alex-murdaugh-trial-wednesday/index.html) Alex Murdaugh’s voice alongside those of Maggie and Paul in a cell phone video that a law enforcement witness testified [Paul filmed in the area of the kennels at 8:44 p.m. During the cross-examination Tuesday, defense attorney Dick Harpootlian pressed Riemer on the possibility that the shot Paul suffered to the head was a contact wound. The defense team Tuesday questioned Davis about his perception of the Murdaugh family and Alex Murdaugh in particular. She did find stippling on the wound to Paul’s chest, she said, indicating a weapon fired at close range with the barrel up to three feet away. Defense attorney Jim Griffin also asked Davis about an instance when one of the dogs was badly injured in the kennels. Ellen Riemer, a pathologist at the Medical University of South Carolina who testified a day earlier about the victims’ fatal injuries, during which Murdaugh appeared visibly upset. Paul, Davis testified, was not as meticulous about properly rolling up the hose as he was. But when shown a photo of the crime scene taken that night, Davis told the court the hose had not been properly stored. Murdaugh contends he called 911 after returning home from a visit to his mother and finding his wife and son dead of gunshot wounds. “I’m very particular how I rolled that hose up, and it’s kinked up,” Davis said of the photo. The defense is expected to make the decision in the next couple of days, the source said. No final decision has been made, the source said.

As he did Monday, Alex Murdaugh cried during much of Riemer’s testimony, especially as she detailed the injuries to his wife and son. Prosecutors have used it with other witnesses to identify Alex Murdaugh’s voice along with the voices of his son and wife, to show he was at the kennels even though he told police he wasn’t there. [Code of Conduct](https://www.therecord.com/about/community-guidelines.html). She said both victims appeared to have their arms and hands by their sides, with no injuries indicating they tried to protect themselves, Riemer said. The defense has said it is absurd to think a seasoned attorney like Murdaugh would believe scrutiny about his life would diminish if his wife and son were brutally killed. It was the hose, in a haphazard pile. Ellen Riemer said the last shots on each victim appeared to be to their heads. Murdaugh called 911 saying he found the bodies after returning home from that trip. “I’m very particular about how I roll that hose up,“ Davis testified as he examined a picture taken by police after the killings. “He said that his number one goal was clearing Paul’s name,” Proctor said. Alex Murdaugh spent time with his in-laws after the killings as they all sorted through their grief. Marian Proctor told jurors her family was distraught after the killings.

He was charged with boating under the influence and faced up to 25 years in prison but was killed before his trial. Maggie Murdaugh first suffered a gunshot wound to her left breast, and the bullet then went upwards to the left side of her face. But the victim’s family have long doubted this version of events, with the Murdaugh name cropping up in several police tips and community rumours. Blood was found on the steering wheel of Mr Murdaugh’s Chevy Suburban, SLED agent Rachel Nguyen also testified on Monday. Prosecutors have seemingly abandoned the blood-spatter argument, which was thought to be strong evidence in the case. She also said she was not aware of media reports referencing the purported blood spatter. On Monday, Mr Murdaugh broke down in tears as prosecutors revealed grisly details about the autopsies performed on Maggie and Paul. Mr Murdaugh is accused of shooting his wife Maggie and son Paul dead at the family’s sprawling 1,700-acre property in Islandton, South Carolina, on the night of 7 June 2021. But South Carolina Law Enforcement Division agent Sara Zapata on Monday said she submitted her HemaTrace test stating that no blood was found on the white shirt on 10 November 2021. It would be the first time Mr Murdaugh publicly speaks about the murders. But a defendant who appears highly credible can also turn the tide.” “If Murdaugh can’t explain away all the prosecution’s evidence, lets slip any incriminating or contradictory statement, or gets defensive or angry, the jury is likely to be very tough on him,” he said.
The caretaker's description of the accused double murderer as a sensitive family man may have helped the defense.
Davis also explained that his job was to take care of the family’s dogs—Grady, Bubba, and Maggie—because Buster, who has been in the courtroom for the majority of the trial, had eczema. Looking at several crime scene photos on the stand, he said that some of the dogs were in different pens from where he left them and that the way the hose was left indicates someone used it after he went home. in the kennels, the hose could be seen on the ground. “Somebody used that hose after I did because it's twisted,” he noted. And while Davis was the prosecution’s 58th witness, his testimony could have bolstered the defense’s argument. The caretaker’s portrayal of Murdaugh as a sensitive family man was unexpected, given that prosecutors allege he shot his 52-year-old wife,

Maggie was looking in the Hilton Head and Bluffton areas to purchase another home, Proctor said. The feed room was located at the very end, he said. Waters asked Proctor about the last time she spoke with her sister. Proctor described Paul as a “sweet, sweet boy” who’s been misrepresented in the media. She and Alex “never talked about” finding the killer, Proctor said. Proctor said they had, and Alex was “very intent” on clearing Paul’s name. Alex said he didn’t, but added, “Whoever did it had thought about it for a very long time,” Proctor recalled. Under further questioning from Waters, Proctor was about to expand on the events of September 2021. Griffin asked Proctor whether she thought Alex’s request for Maggie to come back to Moselle the day of the killings was unusual. Griffin also established Proctor wasn’t critical of Alex for wanting to clear Paul’s name in the boat crash. This information also affected how Proctor thought about the roadside shooting, and changed her opinion that Alex was targeted, she said. She became concerned the family was being “targeted,” Proctor testified.
