Galentine's Day, the fictional holiday invented by 'Parks and Recreation' character Leslie Knope in 2010, has tortured me for 13 years.

Just once in my adult life, I would like to experience Valentine’s Day without the Galentine gimmick. Yes, I know that Parks and Rec is a satirical mockumentary not meant to be taken seriously. The breakfast concludes with Leslie and her friends gathering around as Leslie’s mother tells the story of how she met a former lover, a story that makes Leslie salivate like a feral dog in heat. “Oh, it’s only the best day of the year. The pink tax — aka the tendency for products marketed specifically towards women to be more expensive than those marketed towards men — also encompasses an entirely made up set of items and events that are marketed towards women and women only, making us spend money on things we never actually needed to buy. I aim to celebrate and uplift the women in my life 24/7, 365 days a year. I’m not a total killjoy — I don’t mind commercialised holidays if they’re fun, and fair. Galentine’s Day is one of those guilty culprits, and it’s just as much of a corporate con as Valentine’s Day. See, it was a cute episode, but the world really took this concept and ran with it.
