Edmonton Oilers snap Senators' streak with win in Ottawa (Sportsnet.ca)

Connor McDavid and Zach Hyman had a goal and an assist each to lead the Edmonton Oilers past the Ottawa Senators 6-3 on Saturday.

"I was just kind of on Chabot right away and just trying to get the puck back somehow and (create) a chance. The Senators were 3-2 winners in overtime in Ottawa on Jan. The Oilers were 1-4 on the power play. At 1:44, after being hooked by Alex DeBrincat, Hyman scored on his penalty shot to give the Oilers a 2-1 lead. "Just the way he takes care of himself on the ice, off the ice, how great of a pro he is and how good of a person he is too, you never want to see that." Mads Sogaard took over in goal for the Senators stopping all three shots he faced. It's their third game and it's our first from break, so we expected their push and their jump. "It's not a fun play to be a part of. "I think we made two critical mistakes and both end up in our net," Senators coach DJ Smith said. Kulak made a great cross-ice pass into the Senators zone for Jesse Puljujarvi who beat He then sent a pass in front that was literally chopped in by Derek Ryan 7:24. 31 while the [Edmonton Oilers](/hockey/nhl/teams/edmonton-oilers/) were playing their third game this week.

GAME RECAP: Oilers 6, Senators 3 (NHL.com)

Puljujarvi scores the game-winner, McDavid records three points and Hyman hits 300 for his career with a multi-point effort on Saturday afternoon.

"Yeah, it was really fun to be in the lineup again and I tried to really help the team," Puljujarvi said. Concern was directed to the Senators crease and Forsberg soon after, however, when he was unable to get up after Hyman was forced into the goalie before the puck was put in by Nugent-Hopkins. I'm stuck on him because there's a guy who's on top of me pushing me in, so if you watch the replay, I go in and try to avoid him, and then all of a sudden, I get a cross check in the back. "You hear him go down and you hear him in pain. The Finnish winger accepted a two-line pass from Brett Kulak as he entered the Ottawa zone before resetting himself to rip his fifth goal of the season clean past Forsberg on the far side to make it 4-3 Oilers with just over 17 minutes to play. I just tried to throw it over there and I think I got a little bit lucky. Then as you get older, you just try to get better and just kind of continue to progress." McDavid pursued Thomas Chabot into the Ottawa zone and stripped the defender of the puck, brushing off the responding pressure from two Senators before throwing a backhand pass through the black jerseys and onto the tape of Ryan McLeod unmarked at the back post. On the road, the captain has been simply uncontainable, registering a point in 25 of Edmonton's last 26 road games for a whopping 13 goals and 21 assists after pencilling in with a goal and two helpers on the scoresheet Saturday afternoon. Hyman went to the backhand and beat Forsberg for the 2-1 advantage, while increasing his season output through 52 games to 27 goals and 35 assists. Connor McDavid recorded a goal and two assists to stretch his point streak to 15 games and make it points in 25 of his last 26 road games. Before Forsberg could reset, the puck already had struck the back of his skate and found its way over the line for an early 1-0 Oilers lead at 2:18 of the first period.

Edmonton woke up from a slow opening frame with two goals in the second period. Montreal doubled its lead in the second period when Dadonov found Harris with a pass from behind Skinner’s net. Following a fight with Desharnais, Canadiens defenceman Arber Xhekaj left for the locker room with an apparent right shoulder injury. “It happened quickly, he didn’t say anything so we just went at it and then he fell and I stopped,” Desharnais said. “We keep trying to build, there’s a lot of engagement and a big buy-in from the guys to keep playing together offensively and defensively. Belzile took advantage of some confusion between Oilers defenceman Brett Kulak and Skinner and scored on a wrist shot from the high slot. “I appreciated it a bit more in warmups,” Desharnais said. To hear my name from the Bell Centre, It was unreal.” Harris said it comes down to the ability of Montreal's blue line to play a complete game. The break helped us but I think it’s a progression.” I feel like we've done a good job defending and jumping up on the rush and I feel like a lot of our D-men have those skill-sets to make plays offensively." “The D-men are hot right now, hopefully we can keep it up,” Harris said.

McDavid point streak ends at 15 games, Oilers lose at Canadiens (NHL.com)

Connor McDavid's point streak ended at 15 games for the Edmonton Oilers in a 6-2 loss to the Montreal Canadiens at Bell Centre on Sunday.

He is the seventh-oldest player to score his first NHL goal for the Canadiens, and the oldest since Hockey Hall of Famer Herb Gardiner (35 years, 35 days) on Dec. Rafael Harvey-Pinard put the Canadiens ahead 4-2 with a power-play goal at 18:41 of the second period. "They play so fast and dangerous offensively and it's really apparent right off the start that they like to get going in transition," Harris said of the Oilers. He had 25 points (10 goals, 15 assists) during the run, his second-longest of the season (16 games from Nov. The Canadiens (22-27-4) swept a pair of Super Bowl weekend matinee games following a 4-3 overtime win against the New York Islanders on Saturday. The Oilers captain, who leads the NHL with 97 points (42 goals, 55 assists) in 54 games, was minus-3.

The Edmonton Oilers Prospect Report: Could It Be Deja Vu All Over ... (Oilers Nation)

One of the more natural prospect comparisons for Noah Philp is Derek Ryan. I mean I don't really understand why people go that route at all.

Progress in this area will be vital for Kesselring to get the trust of the organization to play in the NHL. As I’ve noted, Kesselring can be slow to react to danger in the slot. Look at this clip where he retrieves a dump-in and promptly turns it into a rush attack leading to a shot on goal. His goal, the 13th of the season, made him the top goal-scoring defenceman in the AHL. We should be looking for a player that finishes at a point-per-game average and continues to command top-line and top powerplay minutes. The troubles for Chiasson is that he appears loaded with some offensive ability. This year 14-27-41 in 53 games, which is serviceable for a 19-year-old, but not really adequate for someone with his skills. The hope with the trade was that Chiasson would regain that spark that led him to be a point-per-game player in the 2020/21 bubble season. Well, Philp is doing his level best to make the OEG suits take notice that he can absolutely score at the AHL level. However, he does have one advantage while he is working on this are of his game. If you cannot score at the AHL level as a forward, it is very hard to get a look in the NHL. I mean Ryan is a right-shot center, who went undrafted, then went to the University of Alberta.

Oilers fizzle out against Montreal Canadiens on final game of road trip (Edmonton Sun)

Less than 24-hours after overwhelming the Ottawa Senators the Oilers looked disinterested in a 6-2 loss against the Montreal Canadiens.

“Vincent and Evander both injected some emotion into the game, and I though that’s a positive that they can both individually take out of the game to try and change momentum,” Woodcroft said. Desharnais, a Laval, Que., product had roughly 40 friends and family in the stands, playing his first NHL game in Montreal. The six-foot-four, 238-pound Xhekaj earned his reputation as a tough customer earlier this year by tuning in Zack Kassian in a game against the Arizona Coyotes. Harris increased the lead to 2-0 four minutes into the second period, finishing off an extended shift in the Oilers’ zone. The Oilers had registered one shot at the time. With the loss, the Oilers failed to capitalize on an opportunity to leapfrog over the Vegas Golden Knights and take over first place in the Pacific Division standings.

Call Of The Wilde: Montreal Canadiens stun the Edmonton Oilers (Globalnews.ca)

The Canadiens opened the scoring on a beautiful view of modern hockey at its finest.

Farrell may get in a half dozen NHL games depending on how far Harvard advances in the Frozen Four. Whether Farrell can translate his game to the NHL is an open and complex question, but a five-point night against Dartmouth on Saturday paints a a beautiful picture. What a season it has been for Farrell at the Ivy League school. Farrell’s first NHL game after he is eliminated from the NCAA playoffs is certainly one of them. The Canadiens just aren’t bad enough to be in the top five at the draft. Dach with the nicest assist of the season for Montreal. Xhekaj left the ice immediately and went to the dressing room pointing to his shoulder. Xhekaj did not return for the third period. The Canadiens have a head coach for the modern game. The evolution of Kirby Dach’s game must be a beautiful sight for general manager Kent Hughes. Connor McDavid was on for over two minutes, hemmed in his own zone on a shift centred by Kirby Dach. After the blueliners won the zone, it was up to the forwards to work the play down low, and they did perfectly, leading to Alex Belzile finally scoring his first NHL goal at age 31.

But he failed to smother the puck leading up to Montreal’s first goal. He moved in fast for a Grade A shot late in the first, with RNH almost scoring on the rebound. Not even close to his best game, even if he wasn’t to blame on most of the goals against. With Habs up by three, he turned over the puck in the third period, leading to Montreal’s sixth goal. He allowed in a dagger of slot pass to Dach in the game’s first minute, not good. He made a fine pass to set up Broberg’s Grade A in the first. His shift as almost as rancid as McDavid’s on Montreal’s second goal, as he was wandering all over the place and turned over the puck. He cashed in a lonely puck in the crease to score Edmonton’s first goal. He made major contributions to 11 Grade A shots for the Oilers. He allowed an outside shot and made a turnover on Montreal’s second goal. He buzzed around like a demon of pass possession on the power play, setting up dangerous shots but no payoff with a goal. He also failed to shift off and allowed a slot into the pass on that same foul-smelling sequence.
