Game Preview: Pittsburgh Penguins @ Los Angeles Kings 2/11 ... (PensBurgh)

The Penguins look to make it three wins in a row on Day 2 of a late-night California road trip.

- Assuming Tokarski starts tonight (if Jarry is still out; DeSmith was in net yesterday) it will be his second start of the season and his first game on the road. We’ll see if the Kings go with Copley or return to Jonathan Quick for their first game back. [returned to practice Thursday](https://pittsburghhockeynow.com/pittsburgh-penguins-practice-tristan-jarry-jan-rutta-kris-letang/), although their return timeline is currently unknown. The Kings have been in a bye week since their 3-2-1 six-game road trip ended on January 31 with a 5-4 overtime loss to the Hurricanes. No one has played more games in Los Angeles than Brown, who spent 18 years with the Kings and captained the team through the 2012 and 2014 Stanley Cup championships. AHL call-up Pheonix Copley is now playing the majority of the Kings’ starts.

Penguins Room: Joseph Steps Up; Friedman Has Fun (Pittsburgh Hockey Now)

ANAHEIM, Calif. — P.O Joseph had played 66 games in the NHL before Friday night, but none quite like the one he produced during the Pittsburgh Penguins' 6-3 ...

[ “There was a lot of zone time (for the Penguins), a lot of pucks on net, a lot of good chances,” said DeSmith, who stopped 28 of 31 shots. And it’s pretty fun when you get to do that.” “I thought (Gibson) played a good game. So far as Joseph could recall, it never has, at any level of organized hockey. “We had to help the forwards with some offense. He got his first goal at 9:03 of the first period, on a wrist shot through traffic from the high slot. ](https://pittsburghhockeynow.com/pittsburgh-penguins-rickard-rakell-anaheim-ducks-trade/) “I think we did a pretty good job tonight.” ](https://pittsburghhockeynow.com/fanduel-pa-promo-code-get-3000-no-sweat-offer-on-any-super-bowl-bet/) ](https://pittsburghhockeynow.com/pittsburgh-penguins-kris-letang-update-illness-casey-desmith/) “It’s tough, but the role I’m in the NHL, you always have to be ready to go,” he said.

Yohe's 10 observations: Evgeni Malkin gets 1200th career point as ... (The Athletic)

Malkin notched a milestone as the Penguins (59 shots) overwhelmed the Ducks in a 6-3 victory at Honda Center on Friday.

… Poor [Teddy Blueger](https://theathletic.com/nhl/player/teddy-blueger-SRpVUJd732pI6McW/) can’t buy a goal. [Jeff Petry](https://theathletic.com/nhl/player/jeff-petry-NZdcLKgQBSA1qqkc/) had a burst of speed in the third period that I haven’t seen from him all season. Only [Chicago](https://theathletic.com/nhl/team/blackhawks/) and [Columbus](https://theathletic.com/nhl/team/blue-jackets/) have fewer points. Malkin accomplished this feat in 40 fewer games than [Alex Ovechkin](https://theathletic.com/nhl/player/alex-ovechkin-xk3AkpLEFVBdOCBp/), which I think is a pretty noteworthy thing. [Casey DeSmith](https://theathletic.com/nhl/player/casey-desmith-0B1kbH3Bylu2LNTt/) was sharp all evening, stopping 28 of 31 shots for his second straight victory. He plays like a jerk, which, of course, is meant as a compliment in the game of ice hockey. And against the Ducks, he was really good. It was a clear penalty, and it was called. The Penguins skated circles around the Ducks in this game. Only a couple of weeks ago, the Ducks nearly beat the Penguins in Pittsburgh, only to be undone by Rust’s late tying goal. [Ducks](https://theathletic.com/nhl/team/ducks/) are a horrid defensive team and, in general, one of the [NHL](https://theathletic.com/nhl/)’s worst teams. They fell six shots short of the franchise record for shots in a game, set in 1975.

Joseph came into the game with two goals this season and three goals in 66 career games before finding the back of the net twice. Anaheim trailed 3-1 after the first period after it was outshot 25-8 in the first 20 minutes. "It's a big number and I'm trying to keep going." Malkin reached his milestone with the primary assist on Rust's goal at 10:04 of the third period, which put Pittsburgh up 5-1. Pierre-Olivier Joseph had two goals and an assist to tie a career-high with three points. "I thought it was a pretty dominant performance," Pittsburgh coach Mike Sullivan said.

It wasn't a new theme for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Far from it. In fact, if they were a band, it could be classified as one of their classics.

A good pass by (Malkin), also. When we can get some offensive production from our blue line like that, it just makes us that much harder to play against.” “A good play by Teddy there. Walking up the slot against minimal resistance, Joseph fired a heavy wrister that toasted Gibson’s blocker. Surveying for a shooting lane, Joseph stroked a wrister that rung off the left post and hit twine behind goaltender John Gibson, a Whitehall native.
