"Decided it would be easier to sleep there," the 23-year-old said. "You don't get chances to do something like that throughout the year." "But I do think with everything that's gone on the past few days, we were running out of gas a bit the second half of the final game." It was, in the words of Matthew, a forward with the Florida Panthers, "chaos." He said last week that the All-Star Game would be a special occasion because it would be the first time the boys had ever played together on the same team, let alone the same line, in minor hockey, basement mini-stick hockey, any kind of hockey. 6 ways to fix the NHL's All-Star weekend (Canucks Army)

The 3-on-3 tournament was chalked full of decent moments, including Elias Pettersson and Bo Horvat's swan song as teammates. But the game itself presented the ...

Those choices could easily be turned into some entertaining content for social media as fans and players make their cases for what team to get on board with. So let’s combine the two most recent All-Star concepts together, and add a viral marketing twist. There are plenty of options on the table for the league here. Those outdoor events from earlier don’t require any equipment, so maybe there’s an opportunity to give the goalies the spotlight in those competitions too. Or maybe you add style points for saves in the shootout competitions. The only real difference between the men’s and women’s games is the lack of bodychecking in the women’s game, and there’s absolutely none of that happening in the 3-on-3 tournament as it is. The Skills competition used to involve a lot more players competing in events like relay races, 1v1 matchups in Fastest Skater and elimination shootouts. The biggest issue facing the entire weekend boils down to getting players to care about competing. And yes, I understand that the All-Star Weekend is geared toward a much younger audience. That’s why it’s about time for the league to overhaul the weekend and fix it. Friday’s Skills Competition had some interesting ideas, but the overall execution was among the worst in league history. The 3-on-3 tournament was chalked full of decent moments, including Elias Pettersson and Bo Horvat’s swan song as teammates.

3 Ways To Improve The NHL All-Star Game (The Hockey Writers)

While the 2023 NHL All-Star Game did provide some exciting moments, here are three ways the annual event could be improved.

Changing the format to three on three was a great start but there are still parts of the game that are slow as the players are not fully engaged from start to finish. The NHL has many different avenues it can explore, including the three mentioned here, to make the NHL All-Star Game more exciting. This would allow for teams to stay in the game despite the score, as the next goal could get them closer to a tie or even push them into the lead. A way to avoid this would be to get rid of offsides during the game and allow players the freedom to skate wherever they want at any time. The way this works is at parts of the game, the next goal could be worth two or three instead of one. The premise of this would be simple to execute with a player from each division being named captain and, along with their division’s coach for the event, select players in a snake format.
