NHL All-Star Skills Competition

The NHL has been trying to mix things up in recent All-Star Skills Competitions to showcase more of the locations at which the events are held.

An accuracy event derived from the rules of blackjack in 2022 has been replaced with something called “Pitch ‘n Puck,” which combines golf and hockey shots on a par-4 hole. Players start from center ice and must shoot on the rush. The in-net goalie will face one, two or three players in a shootout. The shooting goalie will take a shot and try to get it into a designated hole. If there's a tiebreaker, a longest-drive competition will determine the victor. Six players will participate in the pitch 'n puck, an event that mixes hockey with golf. Players take turns skating in and firing a slap shot into the net. In this event, players must put their shooting accuracy to the test. Players can get creative with their shootout attempts, using props, costumes and even special guests to help get the judge's vote. Four of these challenges have been around for years, which include the fastest skater, breakaway challenge, accuracy shooting and hardest shot. The All-Stars aren't just competing for entertainment. One of the new events that debuted solely in Vegas was the NHL 21 in '22 challenge. Seven participants met at the famed Fountains of Bellagio in Vegas for the outdoor event. The in-net goalie will face one, two or three players in a shootout. The shooting goalie will take a shot and try to get it into a designated hole. One goalie will shoot and the other will tend the goal. One will take place on the beach in Fort Lauderdale and the other mixes hockey with golf.

The NHL All-Star Skills Competition will take place on Friday at FLA Live Arena, the home of the Florida Panthers.
