The Town of South Bruce Peninsula will be hosting its annual Wiarton Willie Festival on Saturday at Bluewater Park. Hundreds of people were on hand outside the Wiarton Arena for Willie’s prediction this morning, in a return to an in-person event after a two-year absence. The Bruce Peninsula’s famous prognosticating groundhog didn’t see his shadow this morning, and relayed the news to South Bruce Peninsula Mayor Garry Michi at exactly 8:07 a.m.

The Wiarton Willie Festival continues this weekend in Wiarton with a multitude of outdoor events, including skating, axe throwing and life-size outdoor foosball. On Thursday, Brampton city councillor Paul Vicente was taking in the festivities along with his family – wife Onorina Funari-Vicente and their children Angela, 17, and Alesandro, 11. After rumours ran rampant, in late 2021 the town confirmed that Willie had passed away prior to his prediction. It is hoped the latest one will bring some stability to the role after mystery beset the festival in 2021.
