Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, S23+, S23 and Galaxy Book3: Specs ... (WIRED)

There are three new phones—the Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra—as well as five new laptops.

The S23 line does have more recycled components than last year, however; the company says it has doubled the number of recycled parts on the S23 Ultra to 12, from the speaker module to the volume keys. The S23+ sits in the middle with a 6.6-inch screen. It pops out of the bottom edge of the handset. Samsung's Galaxy S23 smartphones follow closely in the footsteps of the S22 series. Samsung S23 Will Miss Out on 2023's Biggest Phone Trend (CNET)

There's no satellite connectivity for the most advanced Android phones.

Qualcomm plans to expand Snapdragon Satellite beyond emergency messaging to open it up for more social texting and data use, though it may be through a more premium subscription service. Since Qualcomm's feature requires phones to be designed with Snapdragon Satellite in mind, it seems like Samsung passed on building the feature into its S23 phones from the ground up. It's also possible that Samsung's top-tier phones will lag behind Apple and even other Android flagships in emergency connectivity -- at least until the second half of the year, when Samsung's second wave of mobile devices, the Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip, are expected to launch and could include satellite connectivity. So the Samsung S23 phones arriving without any satellite functionality also means they won't get to harness satellites for nonemergency communications later on. At CES 2023, chipmaker Qualcomm introduced [Snapdragon Satellite](https://www.cnet.com/tech/mobile/iphone-satellite-texting-like-capability-is-coming-to-android-in-2023/) chips for Android phones, and said it plans to activate service in the second half of this year. But as cutting edge as Samsung's new premium phones are, they won't have satellite texting, which is quickly turning into one of [2023's biggest phone trends](https://www.cnet.com/tech/mobile/iphone-14s-emergency-sos-launched-the-year-of-satellite-texting/).
