Wrexham vs Sheffield United - FA Cup: Live score, team news and ... (Daily Mail)

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson says his side are planning to make it as 'difficult as possible' for Sheffield to advance through to the next round of the FA ...

They managed to reach the quarter-finals of the competition in 1997. The striker, already on the scoresheet, goes on a winding run, defenders backing off and backing off. Tommy Doyle bent it in and no-one picked up Oli McBurnie at the near post. Two of Wrexham's three centre backs are gone in the first 10 minutes. The angle is tight and he smashes it towards goal... Bogle is overeager, stepping in to try to win the ball when he should just be jockeying him, and Mullin cleverly plays it past him. He knocks it past a defender and shoots hard and low, bringing a good save from Mark Howard. A Wrexham defender tackles Ndiaye but it falls to Norwood outside the box. Again, United leave Paul Mullin isolated up top with just a single defender and again, it leads to a brilliant opportunity. Billy Sharp did really well to win a corner, and it fell to defender Egan, who volleyed it in off his shin. Sub Iliman Ndiaye has made an instant impact and his run leads to the leveller. Six goals, a red card, a Hollywood owner, and a Hollywood ending - just not for Wrexham!

Wrexham v Sheffield United: FA Cup fourth round – live (The Guardian)

Sheff Utd · 1. Adam Davies · 15. Anel Ahmedhodzic · 12. John Egan · 6. Chris Basham · 20. Jayden Bogle · 28. James McAtee · 16. Oliver Norwood · 22. Tommy Doyle.

[Sheffield United](https://www.theguardian.com/football/sheffieldunited) succumb to the second wave. While Mullin got to the ball first, Davies pulled out of the contact just in time. Tom O’Connor turns on his heel and gets a shot away, but it rockets over the crossbar. He hooks the ball past Davies and into the back of the net to send the Cae Ras into raptures. 41 min Ollie Palmer cuts in off the left flank and unleashes a shot, but it’s blocked. And the Hollywood owners get a bit of stick in the various comment sections. Dalby crosses to Palmer, who thunders a shot on to the underside of the crossbar. Young steps up to take the corner and whips a delivery to Lee, who nods it down for O’Connor. Norwood has a shot blocked by Tozer, but the ball bobbles back to him and, at the second time of asking, he slots it into the far corner. Mullin has the ball in the back of the net after being teed up by Dalby with a neat cross from the right. [Sheffield United](https://www.theguardian.com/football/sheffieldunited) recycle the ball and Doyle whips a cross into the box from deep. We had a game plan, we worked to it and I think everyone watching would say we deserved to win the game.

Premier League giants Arsenal and Liverpool have already fallen this season and Wrexham held their own against a side that could be in the top flight come next campaign. In forcing a replay, Phil Parkinson's men now have to travel to Sheffield to play the second leg away from home for a chance to reach the fifth round. A near-capacity crowd plus TV coverage and a host of social media attention related to the game will have put Wrexham on the soccer map a bit more for those previously unfamiliar with them. Sheffield United had other ideas, though, and broke Wrexham hearts five minutes into added time when John Egan equalized for the 10 men to earn a replay at Bramall Lane. Wrexham are by some way the underdogs in this matchup despite enjoying stronger financial backing than most at this level. The Wales-based side play in the National League, which is the fifth tier of professional English soccer, and three levels below the Blades who they have now taken to a replay.

However, there was to be one final sting to the tail, as Egan rose at the back post in the fifth minute of added time, sending the tie to a replay. With the early injuries and substitutions, the referee awarded seven minutes of additional time as Parkinson’s men looked to get back in the game. It looked as though Mullin won the game in the 86th minute, but Egan had the final say, taking the game to a replay. He was called into action again on the 20th-minute mark, as Jayden Bogle launched a speculative effort from range, but Howard was more than equal to it as he parried it away. The Blades looked to double the advantage, as Daniel Jebbison advanced on goal but Mark Howard was out to make a crucial save. Oliver Norwood put the game back on level terms in the 66th minute, but the pendulum swung back in the host's favour, as Daniel Jebbison received a red card five minutes later.
