WWE Royal Rumble 2023 should be a huge night for John Cena, Cody Rhodes, Rhea Ripley, Roman Reigns and more.

Reigns, a generational clash between two of the biggest stars in the industry. Just take a second and imagine a Royal Rumble match in which Austin and Cena, arguably the two biggest stars in WWE history, both make their surprise returns within the Royal Rumble match. One, the story of Rhodes finally winning the big one is an easy story to tell. Think back to Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 30 or Kofi Kingston at WrestleMania 35 as underdog babyfaces who gave WWE no choice but to give them a world title match—matches that both stars won—at WrestleMania, and Zayn could follow a similar path. Reigns needs to be booked stronger than he ever has during his historic title reign, and that means that Owens, despite his obvious popularity, must take the “L” in route to what is sure to be a massive title defense for Reigns at WrestleMania 39. Lynch doesn't need a Royal Rumble victory to get a marquee WrestleMania match, and virtually no other woman outside of Raquel Rodriguez appears to have even a puncher's chance of winning this match. The women's Royal Rumble seems to only have a few realistic potential winners. So, Belair should retain at Royal Rumble in route to another marquee WrestleMania match while Bliss transitions to a storyline with Wyatt. Of course, that depends largely upon Triple H and WWE’s creative team booking a show that sets the stage for WrestleMania 39. WWE has two clear favorites for the Royal Rumble matches in Cody Rhodes and Rhea Ripley, but they're certainly not a lock.

Rhodes is a massive star, has never won a world title and will be fresh off a lengthy absence that is sure to result in roof-rattling reactions from the WWE fan base. But just because it's predictable doesn't make it bad, and in a field full of stars who've already feuded with or faced Reigns at some point, Rhodes is a great option to go toe-to-toe with Reigns at WrestleMania. Given how great of a performer Rollins has been for the past decade and the fact that he's never truly main evented WrestleMania, most of WWE's fan base wouldn't object to Rollins winning the Rumble again. But it would be arguably a better story if Zayn instead challenges Reigns on "The Grandest Stage of Them All," and given how insanely over Zayn is, that could be a red hot match with a magical WrestleMania ending if Zayn dethrones Reigns. Perhaps most importantly, though, Ripley is getting over in a huge way with the crowd at precisely the right time. Drew McIntyre is a more likely option given the controversial ending to his match with Reigns at Clash at the Castle last September and the fact that he's always pushed as one of WWE's biggest stars. Both of those rivalries have been done time and time again, and there's virtually nothing that can be done to reignite the flames of those feuds in exciting fashion. The problem with Lynch winning the Rumble isn't the victory itself. Maybe it’s too early for Rodriguez, but with Sasha Banks gone and top stars like Bayley seemingly out of the title picture in route to WrestleMania, why not Rodriguez? Over on the men’s side, winning the Rumble is oh-so important, as there is only one world title to compete for on “The Grandest Stage of Them All.” Arguably the most highly anticipated matches on the show are the women’s Rumble and the men’s Rumble, which has a loaded field packed with major names such as Bobby Lashley and Seth Rollins.
