Additionally, the Under is 7-2-1 in New York's last 10 games against teams with a winning overall record. Meanwhile, the Maple Leafs have been a lot more consistent recently, winning 22 of the past 28 games against Metropolitan Division opponents. The favorite is also an impressive 16-5 in the past 21 meetings overall. New York is 1-4 in the past five meetings in the series, and the team is just 2-6 over its previous eight trips to Toronto. The slumping New York Islanders face the Maple Leafs tonight in Toronto, where the Leafs have been among the best teams in the NHL this season.

Under 6 goals (-113): Fading one offence directly makes it easier to fade offence as a whole. Maple Leafs 60-min moneyline (-143): Backing the Leafs on the standard moneyline is too juiced for our liking, but this is a price we can deal with. The Isles only have one win in their past eight games. We don’t expect a repeat performance this time around. Toronto likely won’t make things easy on a New York team looking to break through, given that the Maple Leafs rank ninth in save percentage (.908), seventh in shot attempts allowed per 60 (54.50) and seventh in goals allowed per 60 (2.62). The Islanders have scored just 22 goals in 11 games in January, leading to some dreadful metrics for the month (courtesy of

Toronto Maple Leafs vs. New York Islanders - Game #48 Preview ... (Maple Leafs Hot Stove)

In need of a response after a disappointing final 40 minutes in Montreal, the Maple Leafs will host a desperate New York Islanders team that is reeling ...

We have to find a way to find some life, find some energy, continue to build our game, and find a way. We have to continue to believe in one another. We are into the second half of the season now. We have to stick together. We are trying. We are working. At the same time, if you give them the puck in bad spots, they have guys that can really turn on it quickly and make you look bad. Among the forward corps, there is a ton of cap dollars and term tied up in players over the age of 30 on this Isles roster. They’re maintaining their spot in the standings just fine by winning five of 10 and collecting points in two others, but the consistently inspired play of November-December has waned somewhat as there have been some uneven efforts and let-offs at points, including in Saturday’s disappointing loss to Montreal in which they led 2-0 after 20 minutes. They’re a team that plays hard, plays with a lot of structure, and doesn’t give you a whole lot. It comes off as ungrateful when viewed from a distance and placed in the above context, but Lamoriello’s dismissal of coach Barry Trotz after a year beset by a weird schedule due to the arena change, Covid outbreaks, and significant man games to injury on defense (with Ryan Pulock, in particular) was a head-scratching move. It’s essentially his fourth-straight game after he took over the crease from Matt Murray for the final 40 minutes of last Tuesday’s comeback win over Florida.

NHL Odds, Preview, Prediction: Islanders vs. Maple Leafs (January ... (The Action Network)

Carol Schram breaks down Monday's NHL game between the New York Islanders and Toronto Maple Leafs, including a betting prediction.

The content on this page is for informational purposes only. Toronto is 17-3-4 on home ice this season, while the Islanders’ road record is a meager 10-11-3. We may be compensated for the links provided on this page. The penalty kill, however, is a little wobbly, and has given up at least one goal in three of the past five games. If coach Sheldon Keefe is looking at the Islanders as one of the softer opponents in Toronto’s upcoming four-game homestand, he may use this opportunity to get Murray back between the pipes, hoping to restore his confidence. The Leafs are also getting healthier as defenseman T.J. Matthews and his teammates aren’t lighting the lamp at the same pace they did last year, but their offense is still in the NHL’s top 10. Ilya Sorokin has been a workhorse as he’s tied for the league lead with 36 appearances this season. Winless in their past four games, the slumping Islanders have slipped below the playoff bar in the NHL’s tight Eastern Conference. The main culprit: lack of scoring. So far, 2023 hasn’t been kind to the New York Islanders. And it’s too bad, because there are some great things happening in net.

For the second time this season, the Toronto Maple Leafs host the New York Islanders at Scotiabank Arena.

The two exceptions in that span came in games where he skated fewer than 18 minutes — well below-average for a top-six forward who skates on the main power play. He’s also cleared this total in seven of his past nine games. On the other side of this matchup, we’re fading Brock Nelson in a suboptimal matchup. In 15 games since Dec. And until proven otherwise, Nylander appears to have serious value on this line. But his game-to-game volume has been pleasantly steady.

Marner also set a Leafs' franchise record this season with an impressive 23-game point streak, so the Islanders will need to make sure they keep watch of this crafty and efficient playmaker. In these last four matchups, the Isles have been able to hold Toronto's high-octane offense to four goals or less, and there's always a solid chance most Islanders' players play with a little bit of extra motivation playing against their former captain John Tavares. The Isles started off strong with two beautiful goals from Simon Holmstrom and Brock Nelson, but as has been the pattern lately they took their foot off the gas after one period.

3 Takeaways From Islanders' 5-2 Loss vs Maple Leafs (The Hockey Writers)

The New York Islanders have a lot to learn after their 5-2 defeat to the hands of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

[Brock Nelson](https://thehockeywriters.com/docs/brock-nelson/) for the most on the Islanders. [Anders Lee](https://thehockeywriters.com/docs/anders-lee/), who found the back of the net twice for the team’s only two goals in the game. Follow Mike on Twitter [@Finks_thoughts](https://twitter.com/Finks_thoughts) for more Islanders and general hockey insights. The season is falling apart and the recent loss was another tough one in a terrible stretch. He scored two goals with quick shots in the offensive zone and assisted on the other two goals in the second period. [loss to the Carolina Hurricanes](https://www.nhl.com/news/carolina-hurricanes-new-york-islanders-game-recap/c-340064490) on Jan. The Islanders meanwhile don’t have the elite talent to carry them and when the roster collectively struggles, there’s nobody on the team that can singlehandedly bail them out. Halfway through the 2022-23 season, the Islanders have become the opposite type of team, playing without discipline or a strong defense, making them one of the worst teams in the league. On the contrary, it has become a weak point, especially in recent games. The recent defeat was a tough blow to the Islanders as they held a 1-0 lead at the end of the first period but allowed four goals in the second period, putting the game out of reach by the time the final period of play began. Granted they’ve earned two points in the last five games with a pair of overtime losses but the past five games have been the worst of the season. The defensemen missed multiple assignments and played undisciplined at the blue line, allowing the Maple Leafs to score three goals on breakaways.
