"I thought it was a work meeting," Shields explained in the documentary, via USA Today. "It has taken me many years of therapy to even be able to talk about it. And God knows I knew how to be dissociated from my body. "I did not know if or when or if at all I was ever going to bring this up," she told The Hollywood Reporter. "I just shut it out. Those cultural analysts point out that when Shields first began to model as a child in the '70s, beauty standards were shifting from voluptuous adults to sexualizing youthful girls. Brooke recognized how she was pressured to be mature and then punished for it. The publisher wanted legwarmers and diet tips. Shields doesn't do it alone. The documentary makes the valid point that Shields and her mother, Teri, drew criticism for allowing Shields to appear in the film.
