"SNL" host Aubrey Plaza revisited her past as an NBC page, leading to a surprise reunion.
And it was equally inevitable that she would then slip on her old page’s jacket and offer viewers a backstage tour (requisite headdress-wearing showgirls and all). Plaza showed us why as a page she never got assigned switchboard duty (something about her being a “bad page” with “terrible phone etiquette”), and Kenan Thompson apparently is still waiting on a coffee she was fetching him in 2004. As such, it was inevitable that her monologue — which opened with her assuring us that, trademark sarcasm and all, she truly does “care” about (some) things, and featured a cameo from fellow Delawarean President Biden — would find her reflecting on that years-ago gig.

The audience went wild and both stars embraced each other. Two pages came on the stage and gave Plaza her blazer telling them they “will host SNL someday” then adding, “Yeah, right.” At one moment she ran into Kenan Thompson who asked her for his Starbucks order that he asked for back in 2004.

Aubrey Plaza proves the perfect host for a less-than-perfect episode of SNL.
It could be the worst sketch of the night. It could be the best sketch of the night. The most material of the night MVP of the Night: Aubrey Plaza She managed to show an impressively wide range of characters while infusing the show with her brand of off-beat deadpan humor. - “M3gan 2.0" had some funny moments, but it needed to be pushed further and be much gayer. For SNL, it is the gift that keeps giving. The sketch felt like an obligation as if the writers felt like they had to do something with the cultural phenomenon of Avatar. In the years since, however, Plaza has been doing the difficult work of torching her former typecasting without the telegraphed intentionality of a Disney star now working blue. She slowly built up a stable of varied performances in dark, hip indies she produced herself, such as [ Ingrid Goes West](https://www.vulture.com/2017/08/ingrid-goes-west-is-a-barbed-satire-of-dumb-instagram-girls.html) and [ Black Bear](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_gCDYMGnng), along with the occasional [ fratty comedy](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33MtR-g4Jcg) and the lesser of two recent Child’s Play reboots (the movie, not the show.) Plaza has worked so steadily and accrued so much goodwill that her hosting SNL for the first time in 2023 feels bizarrely belated.

Aubrey Plaza and Mikey Day share a little too much info about their marriage during a neighborhood Taboo game in this SNL sketch.
So, they're all ignoring the sociopath bit or the information that she loves guns and listed a bunch of knives that she maybe threw at him? One of the first sketches of the night came from a "Game Night" premise called "Taboo". But why this version of it works in particularly is because of how Plaza and Day sell it so well.
The show has seemed stuck in a rut lately; this week's host brought some much-needed eccentricity.
