Gamethread #46: Canucks vs Oilers (Nucks Misconduct)

I expect a loss. Players are waiting for Bruce to get fired and that's hard when you like your coach. This is different from when Green was shown the door.

The way they treated a nice person and good coach will be remembered for quite a while. Bruce was embraced by the players and city so he was back this year. Players were a lot happier when Bruce arrived. Bruce is a good coach, but he doesn’t have his bosses support. Having management as real villains instead of inept nice guys is a change for this fanbase. JR was forced to have Bruce this year because of last year. Players are waiting for Bruce to get fired and that’s hard when you like your coach. No trades will be done until Bruce is gone, so that he gets no credit if it works out. So Francesco hired a coach before management. This is different from when Green was shown the door. You really have to go back to Mike Keenan to have a comparison. It turns out that the new management didn’t really want Bruce, but the team had responded to the coaching change, so when JR and GMPA were asked about Bruce, they insinuated that they weren’t happy with the team’s system, which is a obvious way of saying the coaching is weak.

Let me explain. Philip Broberg has been playing really good hockey for the Oilers this month and is only improving with each game. He and Bouchard are ...

Let's say that the trade involves a third round pick and maybe even giving away a player like Puljujarvi to get another team to take on salary. After a thrilling game against the Lightning, it could be easy for Edmonton to take a breath and look past the struggling Canucks. The Hawks have gone 17-30 in goals at 5 on 5 when Toews is on the ice. Alternatively, Toews coming in would keep RNH as the second line centre and Toews would be the third line centre. Ceci is struggling hard on the top pairing which is to be expected. well not be playing with the Hawks, a team that is actively tryingf to tank. Reportedly the value Toews is seen at around the league is a second rounder or more likely just a third round pick, with the Hawks retaining half salary. Is Toews at 2.5 million worth it for the Oilers? Now, it is starting to look as though the better option would be a right shot defender capable of playing on a top pairing. I can't remember the last time the Oilers traded a player when they had value and not simply because they were trying to offload them. If I'm being honest I don't expect this trade to happen before the deadline, or potentially at all as there are people in the Oilers organization that really value Tyson Barrie. We are already seeing Woodcroft slot them on when McDavid is on the ice.

GAME RECAP: Oilers 4, Canucks 2 (NHL.com)

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins picked up three points in his home province to help propel the Oilers to a 4-2 victory over the Canucks on Saturday night.

For me, when I came to the league, it was 'how am I going to stick in the league?' and 'how am I going to be an everyday player?' Then every year you try to kind of add elements and change. "I thought this happened to us early in the year and I thought this time we were able to nip it in the bud and catch it. I mean, the first 10 minutes they're flying in our zone and kind of kept on hemming us in there and I thought we did a good job in how we handled it." It was obviously nice to see and have the lead, but at the same time, no matter what, it's all zeroes In my mind." "I heard he was coming in watching the game tonight, so I was trying to do my best to puck handle like him. He's obviously one of the best in the game, so probably not to his standards, but it was okay." What I really enjoyed seeing was how he dug in on those penalty kills at the end of the game. The goal was Kuzmenko's 19th of the year and 41st point. "They have a ton of skill players over there and when it's 3-0, they try to open it up and take risks and chances and they were able to catch us on a couple there," Hyman said. Regardless of what building, it went into an uproar 1:26 into the contest after Connor McDavid was sprung in all alone on a breakaway. The Oilers goaltender put his newfound dad strength to good use, pushing off the far post to get across and stone Pederson on the cross-crease goal attempt. You look at Hyman, you look at what Connor did there on the penalty kill.
