Game Recap: Giants vs. Eagles (PhiladelphiaEagles.com)

It's win or go home as the Eagles host the New York Giants in the Divisional Round.

The Eagles recovered, but had to punt. Before Brett Kern pinned the Giants at their own 7-yard line, the Eagles tried to draw the Giants offsides as Reed Blankenship acted as if he was going to take a direct snap before lining up under center. The Giants went three and out on their opening possession of the third quarter. Two plays later, the Giants punched it in as Barkley took a direct snap, handed off to running back Matt Brieda for an 8-yard touchdown. The Eagles totaled 18 first downs, to just three for the Giants. QB1 did the work himself to cap off a 14-play, 72-yard drive with a 5-yard touchdown run to make it 28-0 with 43 seconds left in the first half. The Giants were 1-of-6 on third- and fourth-down combined with no red zone trips. Hurts capped off the second drive with a 9-yard touchdown pass to Smith. The Giants, early in the second quarter, had to take a timeout after Jones' contact lens came out after a 1-yard run. Hurts, instead, tossed the ball to running back Kenneth Gainwell and gained 14 yards to the left side thanks to a devastating block from Goedert on Giants cornerback Adoree Jackson. The big play was a 40-yard deep shot to DeVonta Smith on an over route. Hurts was 5-for-5 for 68 yards, capping off the drive with a 16-yard touchdown pass to tight end Dallas Goedert, who made a great one-handed grab on the catch and run.

The NFL still uses chains connected to two signal poles to measure the distance to a first down. Daniel Jones was 15 of 27 for 135 yards and a pick. Case in point: The Eagles had the ball on the New York 3. Eagles overreactions: The NFC should be terrified of Jalen Hurts & Co. (NBC Sports)

The Eagles put the game away early Saturday night and torched the Giants in South Philly to advance to the NFC Championship Game. By Adam Hermann.

His touchdown reception, the first score of the game, was a simple case of big man vs. Maybe now, after Reddick exploded onto the scene in the first quarter of Saturday night's primetime demolition of the Giants and was a menace all night long, he'll get some more respect. On the first drive he was a clear focal point for the Eagles' offense, seeing two targets on Jalen Hurts' five pass attempts. Goedert's impressive performance Saturday night in all phases showed just how talented, and valuable, the 28-year-old tight end is. The Eagles were the class of the league for the entire season and yet it started to feel over the last week like a lot of people forgot why the Birds had that time off. Miles Sanders, often forgotten in the first half, was repeatedly handed the ball and hit the holes with regularity. But when they look like they did Saturday night, this is far and away the NFL's best team. coming up short on their first drive of the game, gambling on fourth down and getting shut down by a Haason Reddick bull rush, set the tone for the evening. of the games with Gardner Minshew at the helm, or Week 18 with the Eagles' coaching staff clearly phoning it in while keeping Hurts safe? The 49ers looked sharp, Daniel Jones played the best game of his career, and Dallas dominated a woebegone version of Tom Brady. It's borderline impossible to go undefeated, particularly in a 17-game season, but they came pretty dang close with their franchise QB on the field. Jalen Hurts, also a first-time playoff winner, looked great in an offensive return to form and the defense was locked in.

Our Eagles vs. Giants predictions for NFL divisional round (NBC Sports)

The Eagles are hosting the Giants in the divisional round on Saturday night. Here are our predictions. By Dave Zangaro.

The Eagles are a superior team. The only thing I worry about is Jones' legs beating the Eagles over and over. The Eagles are one of the best rushing teams in the NFL, particularly when Jalen Hurts is healthy and allowed to play his full game. Dallas Goedert only saw action against the Giants once, in a hamstrung version of the Eagles' offense, and caught six passes for 46 yards. I expect Goedert to be heavily involved on Saturday in a number of different ways - and good luck putting the clamps on Goedert when your secondary is fighting for its life against A.J. The Giants have won four games since the start of November. And when the Eagles are on defense, the Giants just don’t have enough firepower. Yes, Daniel Jones looked great a week ago, but Minnesota’s defense is one of the worst in the league. The national and New York media seem desperate for any semblance of success from either of the teams in East Rutherford, but pump the brakes on the 2007 Giants Super Bowl comparisons. We’ve seen a couple different versions of that Giants defense this season but I have confidence the Eagles will be able to dissect either. If the Giants want to be aggressive and blitz Jalen Hurts, then Hurts will beat them with 1-on-1 mismatches with A.J. We just saw the Giants play their best game of the year, on the road, against a 13-win Vikings team.

Eagles observations: Jalen Hurts regains MVP dominance in ... (NBC Sports)

The Eagles sprinted to a two-score lead Saturday night and never relinquished that cushion, rolling past the Giants and on to the NFC Championship Game.

Here are the Giants down 28-0 halfway through the third quarter of a playoff game and, yeah, they got in the end zone, but they ran on eight of 10 plays and took more than six minutes off the clock. The Eagles are hosting the NFC Championship Game for the second time in six years with a different quarterback, a different head coach and only five position players who were on both teams. He finished 5-for-58 and a TD, and those numbers are fine, but the stats don’t begin to tell the story of just how dominating he was. So Blankenship is really the first undrafted rookie to ever start a playoff game for the Eagles and contribute, and that’s truly impressive. This was the best game of the year for the Eagles’ offensive line. Only one other undrafted Eagles rookie has ever started a game – that was running back Reno Mahe in the 2003 NFC Championship Game and that was a flukey deal where they opened in a two-RB set and he didn’t even have any carries in the game. He’s the first undrafted rookie in franchise history to start a playoff game, and he played some incredible football. Jones never had a chance to set his feet, and he didn’t hurt the Eagles at all scrambling. They had this team mentally and physically prepared, and they devised gameplans that turned this game into a rout before the first quarter was over. A 40-yarder to DeVonta Smith on his first pass, 7-for-7 with TD passes to Dallas Goedert and Smith in the first quarter, and the game was effectively over before he threw an incomplete pass. Winning in the playoffs is a different animal than winning in the regular season, and some coaches just aren’t very good at it. The Eagles are now 15-1 with Hurts in uniform this year, and he’s the youngest QB in franchise history to reach the NFC Championship Game – he’s about nine months younger than Donovan McNabb was in 2001 and next weekend he’ll try to become only the eighth QB in history to take a team to the Super Bowl before his 25th birthday.

With Hurts again resembling an MVP-caliber quarterback, the Eagles overwhelmed the Giants Saturday and began looking forward to the NFC championship game.

And he’s the captain of the ship.” And now perhaps Sirianni and Hurts can attempt to inspire a statue to go alongside the one here that commemorates the “Philly Special” sideline deliberation between Pederson and Foles during the Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots. To come out there and play the way we did tonight, I’m proud of this group. “You’ve got to enjoy those times,” he said. I’m proud of the preparation that we put in to get to where we are. The tone was set early, and the Eagles led 28-0 at halftime. The Eagles hadn’t been that team for more than a month. Divisional round Eagles grades by position after beating Giants (NBC Sports)

The Eagles dominated the Giants in the divisional round, earning the best grades of the entire season. By Dave Zangaro.

But the Eagles looked prepared from the first snap. That was the fear for some fans after the Eagles earned that first-round bye and really didn’t play great in Week 18. Sure, the Giants ended up averaging 5.9 yards per rushing attempt but in a game where the Eagles got a big lead early, that’s fine. Kern had been shaky at times down the stretch but it’s hard to argue with three punts inside the 20. Reddick and Sweat led the way with 1 1/2 sacks each, while Fletcher Cox and Brandon Graham each contributed 1 apiece. Not only was the run game unstoppable but Hurts was kept clean. “He’s not trying to spare no man.” “He’s trying to punish somebody,” Hurts said. The Eagles hit a deep shot from Hurts to Smith on the second play from scrimmage for a big 40-yard gain and the route was on. The Eagles ran all over the Giants’ 27th-ranked run defense on Saturday. Grade: A 1 seed in the NFC this season.

He brings this calmness to the entire team. Knowing what that looks like and finding a way to do that.” “I think it was very important for us to come out and start fast,” Hurts said. There is a lot to be grateful for, but it was earned during the week. “I truly never put a limit on myself and I never put a limit on what this team can do, so there’s always more out there for us to get.
