The Canadian dodged the so-called "Netflix curse" against Francisco Cerundolo, but his fellow docuseries stars have not been so lucky.

But his fellow streaming stars have clearly not been quite so lucky. If Auger-Aliassime can see the funny side, it’s because things have been working out for him in Melbourne. Of the 10 players followed by Netflix cameras for the first five episodes, just one player made the second week in Melbourne: Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime defeated Argentina's Francisco Cerundolo to move on to the fourth round of the Australian Open.

Fernandez and Mattek-Sands could not get any closer than within two games in hopes of a comeback. From there, Haddad Maia and Zhang took over with six consecutive games to win the set. "I was playing a bit tight and not going for it in the second set and he did, so credit to him," said Auger-Aliassime, who advanced to the fourth round in Melbourne for the third consecutive year. Fernandez and Mattek-Sands broke on four of their 12 opportunities in comparison to their opponents going 6-for-10. After winning the opening set, Fernandez and Mattek-Sands fell apart following a great start to the second. "I'm happy with how I was able to turn it around and the last two sets were probably some of my best ones so far in this tournament.

Lehecka has played most of his tennis on the Challenger circuit and is still finding his feet on the main tour. The tie will be tilted towards Auger-Aliassime due to his recent form and dependable record on hardcourts. Fans can expect a few cat-and-mouse points game between him and Auger-Aliassime as the Canadian also likes to move in after finding the corners with his groundstrokes. His powerful serve and eagle-eyed forehand are the most effective weapons in his armor. However, Lehecka has been in scintillating form at the 2023 Australian Open. Jiri Lehecka, on the other hand, has also recorded some eye-catching results in the last few months.

Tebbutt: Felix Carries Flag at Aussie Open - Tennis Canada (tenniscanada.com)

Day five of the Australian Open was one when Félix Auger-Aliassime got closer to his top form, but a devastating loss for Denis Shapovalov.

“I was up in the first two sets,” he said, “getting one of those would have changed the match for sure. Most significant, in terms of the pressure he put on the Cerundolo serve, was his break point chances and a conversion ratio of 6/20 to just 2/6 for the Argentine. I tried to do what I do with my forehand – going forward and hitting through the ball. Against tough opponents there’s going to be ups and downs I was playing a bit tight and not going for it in the second set, and he did. But there was also inconsistency and a number of double faults – 16 (to go with 20 aces) – that has to be high on his list of issues to work on. It was just a frustration with how things were going – but it was actually a good frustration to help me stay concentrated, Sometimes it’s not that kind of frustration like when you’re just complaining or whining That’s the difference and today that was the right way for me.” About the match, he noted, “I had a great start compared to my two first rounds (Pospisil and Slovak Alex Molcan in round two) so it was better and kind of gave me a little cushion. Auger-Aliassime, now the last Canadian in singles, finished with 38 winners and 30 unforced errors to 22 and 38 for the No. But Auger-Aliassime quickly reasserted control in the third set, breaking in the fourth and sixth games with some deadly shot-making. In the second set the 24-year-old Argentine settled in and took advantage of a drop-off by Auger-Aliassime. Back in the friendly confines of John Cain Arena, where he defeated Vasek Pospisil in four sets on Monday, Auger-Aliassime jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead on his way to taking the first set 6-1 against the No. Auger-Aliassime got off to easily his best start of the event so far on his way to a 6-1, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 victory over Francisco Cerundolo while it was the opposite with Shapovalov.
