“I was hoping she might’ve been nominated tonight, but she’s a female donkey and it’s the Globes.” If Jenny wants to leave her early retirement, she never has to question whether her friends McDonagh or Farrell will help. “As some of you may know, I wrote this script for my two stars of my film, Jenny the Donkey and Minnie the Horse,” he began. Colin Farrell, who won [Best Actor](https://www.vulture.com/2023/01/golden-globes-2023-winners-list.html) for the Irish flick The Banshees of Inisherin, didn’t overlook his most important co-star, [Jenny the Donkey](https://www.vulture.com/2022/10/jenny-the-donkey-banshees-of-inisherins-scene-stealer.html), who in his words is “having an early retirement.” He clarified, “She said, ‘F–ck the film business, I’m one and done,’ so she’s gone.” Thankfully, no fingers were thrown as he revealed Jenny’s Irish good-bye.

Butler thanked Elvis himself, while the “Banshees of Inisherin” star made sure to thank Jenny the donkey.

Butler, who will next be seen in Dune 2, ended his speech by thanking his family, including his sister who was at the show. He made sure to also thank the Presley family for “opening [their] hearts” to him. His last thank-you went out to Jenny the donkey, the breakout star of the dark comedy. Farrell’s fellow nominees included Babylon’s Diego Calva, Glass Onion’s Daniel Craig, White Noise’s Adam Driver, and The Menu’s Ralph Fiennes, but Farrell has been out front much of the season due to the critical acclaim of his work in Banshees. In Banshees, the actor stars as Pádraic Súilleabháin, an Irish man whose sweet existence is upended when his longtime best friend stops speaking to him. The charming star made sure to thank his director, Martin McDonagh, whom he first worked with on 2008’s In Bruges.

Nearly two decades later, Colin Farrell recounts how ashamed he was after Alexander received terrible reviews and his performance slammed.

I was in Toronto, and I think I was due a bit foot in the a*s to be honest, which is not the same as saying I deserved it. After Alexander's, Farrell starred in renowned productions such as The Lobster, In Bruges, and The Batman. With Farrell in his early 20s, the highly demanding role of Alexander the Great was a low point in his career, which he himself admitted three years ago on The most significant thing to be a part of was, you know, two or three hundred people who traveled the world over six months to tell this story and bring it to life, and it was a story that Oliver Stone had dreamed of since he was in college, so as grand as it was, as global as it was, as political as it was, and as thrilling as it was and as violent as it was and essential as it was — it was really personal. With the Macedonians often mistaken for being Greeks themselves, the film utterly fails to retell the historical realities of Alexander's time. With many key battles of Alexander's career left out entirely, the Persians were depicted with garbs that they never wore and were often shown as more disorganized than they were. In an interview with THR, Farrell has begun to reflect on the complete and utter shame Alexander brought him, and why it left such a blot on his mind and his career. He briefly details the efforts making Alexander and his partnership with Oliver Stone, but the realities sunk in when the reviews panned the movie – even his sister thought it was bad. Even the harsh opinions came down to his look as Alexander, as the costume design and makeup were ridiculed. It was really personal, and it was really personal to me. What was intended to be Oliver Stone's epic historical depiction of Alexander the Great's rise proved to be a colossal failure rife with historical inaccuracies and allegations of xenophobia that targeted the Persian empire. The film grossed a mere $167.3 million, as opposed to its $155 million budget, which made it a box office failure that left its cast and crew utterly stunned.
