The Seahawks Are Headed To The Playoffs, Will Face 49ers In Wild ... (Seahawks.com)

The Seahawks Week 18 win, combined with a Lions win over the Packers, gave the Seahawks a playoff berth.

"It's really been a terrific year," Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said on KING 5 following the Lions win. 5 overall pick thanks to the trade that sent Russell Wilson to the Broncos, as well as their own first-round pick, and a pair of second-rounders. Quandre Diggs, “A Hero Around Here,” Helps Seahawks Secure ... (Seahawks.com)

With an overtime interception, Seahawks safety Quandre Diggs helped the Seahawks beat the Lions to keep their playoff hopes alive.

"To have the respect and the love and appreciation that I have for him, and the same that he has for me—you've got a hall of fame player, a hall of fame person that loves you and respects you, and always looks out for me no matter what, for me it's so dope to have that type of bond and relationship. "As soon as I caught it I saw him over there," he said. In Seattle's season-finale a year ago, Diggs broke his leg and dislocated his ankle, an injury made all the worse by the fact that he about to hit free agency. "I'm blessed, I'm thankful for the opportunity. He is such a great ball hawk that of course he is going to make that play if you give him a chance. He is a great leader, and they've got nicknames for him and all kinds of stuff, and he is tough as nails. Instead, Diggs had his fourth interception of the season, and after a 17-yard Geno Smith-to-Tyler Lockett pass and a 20-yard Kenneth Walker III run, the Seahawks were in range for Jason Myers to kick the game-winner, giving the Seahawks a 19-16 win. All I saw was the ball, and I was like, 'I'm going to go get it,' and I was able to go get it and I caught it. And if a game-changing interception wasn't sweet enough on its own for Diggs, the moment was even more special because it came one day short of a much more forgettable ending to a season for Diggs. If that ball is in his area, he is going to get it. "Oh man, I felt like I was 25 again running and jumping in the air," Diggs said. "For me it was just one of those plays, they drew it up perfect, they got us in the coverage that they wanted us in, and I was able to just go out and make a play.

On the ensuing drive, rookie Boye Mofe displayed remarkable effort running around the left tackle and working his way back to the line of scrimmage to sack Mayfield on third down, leading to a Rams field goal to keep the game at a 6-6 tie. Luckily for Myers, like Smith, his teammates picked up the slack to grant him a chance to amend for his miscue. Mayfield's success continued into the early portion of the second half, as he completed several passes on bootlegs with little resistance from the Seahawks as they tacked on a field goal in response to Smith's touchdown pass. All year long, even as Seattle has struggled at times stopping opposing run games and the offense has looked discombobulated for stretches, Myers has been the one constant for a young, upcoming team. After the Rams took a quick three-point lead, Smith marched the Seahawks down to the 14-yard line, but committed a false start on a wildcat play and the offense couldn't recover with his third down pass to Metcalf getting knocked away in the end zone. Though Myers made the kick, not scoring a touchdown in such an advantageous situation easily could have cost them, especially after the reliable kicker failed to win the game at the end of regulation. Those demoralizing trends unfortunately continued in Sunday's game with the offense converting on only one out of 11 third down opportunities and failing to find the end zone on four chances inside the opposing 20-yard line. But after that point, the home team went into lockdown mode, forcing punts on three straight drives that netted less than 15 total yards of offense and limiting Akers effectiveness with just 45 rushing yards after halftime. He quickly struck to tie the game, throwing a perfect deep ball to Lockett, who made a Billy Mays-esque basket catch in the back of the end zone to push himself over the 1,000-yard mark for the season. Defensively, Quandre Diggs made a crucial interception in the final period to set up a game-winning field goal for Jason Myers and Bruce Irvin led a ferocious pass rush with 1.5 sacks on Baker Mayfield. In the third quarter, Smith appeared poised to turn the page in a major way, hooking up with Colby Parkinson and DK Metcalf for 15 and 23-yard completions to open Seattle's first drive of the half. Pressing out of the gate, he was picked off by Rams star corner Jalen Ramsey on the first play from scrimmage trying to squeeze the ball to DK Metcalf on a slant, setting up a quick Matt Gay field goal.

In fairly straightforward playoff drama, the Jaguars beat the Tennessee Titans 20-16 on Saturday night to win the AFC South for the first time in five seasons. The No. There are four rounds to the playoffs: The wild-card round is during the upcoming weekend, the divisional round is Jan. The Dolphins and third-string quarterback Skylar Thompson squeezed past the Jets 11-6, snapping a five-game losing streak. The NFL has a re-seeding policy after each playoff round. The AFC bracket could still be affected by the cancellation of the Bills-Bengals game after Hamlin’s injury. The Lions’ upset win capped a weekend that saw the Dolphins make it back to the playoffs for the first time since 2016. The win denied quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the Packers a spot in the postseason. 1 overall seed in the AFC was claimed by Kansas City with its 31-13 win over Las Vegas on Saturday. They were knocked out of playoff contention when Seattle’s Jason Myers kicked a 32-yard field goal to beat the Los Angeles Rams 19-16 in overtime. Instead of Green Bay, it’s the Seahawks who will be the No. The rest of next weekend’s schedule is also set: In the AFC, it’ll be the Miami Dolphins at the Buffalo Bills, Baltimore Ravens at the Cincinnati Bengals and Los Angeles Chargers at Jacksonville Jaguars.

They are set up long-term and are in the playoffs — a borderline miracle. Still, somehow, they are postseason bound and set up for the future. Cross’ block to free up Walker for a 9-yard run on fourth-and-one late in the fourth quarter Sunday kept the Seahawks’ season alive. It’s the kind of dream that would cause a 12 to punch you if you woke them up from it. Assuming all the respondents were hooked up to a polygraph, the survey would likely have 95% saying Denver would make the postseason and Seattle would end up in the cellar. Instead you got a result in which the Seahawks (9-8) shocked the oddsmakers by earning an 18th game behind a journeyman quarterback and a slew of rookies, and where they ended up with a top-5 pick thanks to the Broncos going 5-12.

Seahawks “Coming Together At The Right Time” Heading Into The ... (Seahawks.com)

The Seahawks left Lumen Field Sunday unsure if they were a playoff team or not, but now that they're in, they feel like they can be dangerous in the ...

It's also why the Seahawks left Lumen Field Sunday afternoon knowing that, no matter what had happened on Sunday night, they were headed in a great direction as a young team on the rise that heads into the offseason with a lot of salary cap space, and thanks to the Wilson trade, the No. It's just the next step of a journey that few saw coming, but that the Seahawks always believed was possible. It's hard to measure, but it's real, and its why players like Diggs, who was a free agent in the offseason, re-signed fully believing he was joining a contender even if that team had just moved on from its two most accomplished players. And now the Seahawks are back in the playoffs for the 10th time in 13 seasons under the leadership of Pete Carroll and John Schneider, a total that represents half the postseason appearances in franchise history. The Seahawks have not missed the playoffs in consecutive seasons under Carroll and Schneider, and they've finished first or second in the NFC West in 11 of those 13 seasons. Making this postseason run all the more special is that so few outside of the organization ever saw it coming. Newcomers like Uchenna Nwosu, Noah Fant, Shelby Harris and Jefferson added to a nucleus that included Tyler Lockett, DK Metcalf, Quandre Diggs, Al Woods, Jordyn Brooks, Will Dissly, Ryan Neal, Nick Bellore, and before their injuries, Jamal Adams and Rashaad Penny, to form a mix of veteran leadership and young talent that proved to be a lot better than most people gave them credit for heading into the season. The belief never wavered inside the building that Seahawks would still be competitive and contend for a playoff spot, but plenty outside of the organization wrote them off before training camp even started. Or as safety Ryan Neal bluntly put it earlier this season when the Seahawks first moved into first place with a Week 7 win over the Chargers, "I mean let's just be honest, didn't nobody think we'd be (expletive). The Seahawks season didn't end, with Detroit's win eliminating the Packers and giving the Seahawks the NFC's No. And though the Seahawks aren't satisfied with just getting to the postseason—they want to make some noise now that they're in the playoffs—it is worth taking a step back and appreciating what this team accomplished. "We don't want the season to end," said quarterback Geno Smith.

Monday Round-Up: Media Reactions To Seahawks' 19-16 Win Over ... (Seahawks.com)

Local and national media react to Seattle's 19-16 win over the Los Angeles Rams.

The Seahawks racked up 36 defensive solo tackles on Sunday, equating to a $3,600 donation to Mary's Place. For every defensive solo tackle made at a Seahawks home game this season, Windermere will donate $100 to Mary's Place in support of their mission to provide safe, inclusive shelter and services that support women, children, and families on their journey out of homelessness. Now, Seattle gets a third crack at the San Francisco 49ers Saturday in the NFC Wild Card. Diggs' fourth interception of the year is his second in as many games. The Seahawks managed to pull off the win over the Rams after a slow start. Before the Lions' eventual win secured Seattle's playoff spot, Carroll discussed his thoughts on the year he had and what's next. No love was lost before or following the game, as Wagner shared moments with coaches, former teammates and fans alike. The Michigan State alum joined Seahawks Legend Curt Warner as the only backs in franchise-history to rush for 1,000 yards in their rookie campaign. Now, Irvin gets another shot at the playoffs in his third stint with the team that it all started with in 2012. With everything on the line, Seattle came into Sunday's contest needing a victory of their own and help from the Lions. In dramatic overtime fashion, the Seahawks defeated the Los Angeles Rams 19-16 to complete the regular season, and they aren't done yet. The Cincinnati alum became the first rookie defensive back in over 20 years to record multiple sacks and four-or-more forced fumbles and passes deflected.

Carroll said Haynes "will have a chance" to get back this week, while Neal is expressing optimism about his chances at a return. While it will be tougher for the Seahawks to accomplish on the road than if they were playing at Lumen Field, if the offensive line can play better than it did in the previous two matchups, it's not out of the question they could make things interesting and position themselves for postseason payback. Much like the Buccaneers did against the Saints a couple of years ago, the Seahawks didn't look to be in the same league as the 49ers in their two previous matchups. One thing is for certain: Coach Pete Carroll will have his team believing they can build off two straight wins to close out the regular season and give San Francisco all it can handle. So the past two times that a team has sought three wins against a divisional opponent in the postseason have gone in favor of the underdog. Dating back to the 1970 NFL/AFL merger, there have been 23 such occurrences where a team has swept a divisional opponent in the regular season and then squared off again in the playoffs. In his first year with the franchise after bolting New England, they lost at home to New Orleans in September by a 34-23 score and then got demolished 38-3 in the Big Easy in November, casting doubts about their viability as a Super Bowl contender.
