ANALYSIS: Jets' win streak a reminder team has what it takes to be ... (Globalnews.ca)

Will this road trip really be the next test for the Winnipeg Jets, or will it be a confirmation of what we already know?

No stretch or set of games will prove anything if it’s followed by play that is not up to this club’s standard that we have come to expect this season. Is this the next opportunity to ask ourselves, “What are the Jets made of?” or have we already been shown who the Winnipeg Jets are? [Blake Wheeler](https://globalnews.ca/tag/blake-wheeler), [Cole Perfetti](https://globalnews.ca/tag/cole-perfetti), [Nate Schmidt](https://globalnews.ca/tag/nate-schmidt) and [Saku Maenalanen](https://globalnews.ca/tag/saku-maenalanen) soon to be back, things are coming together as the Jets are set to embark on another difficult and testing stretch of games — eight on the road of their next nine.

Federal government signs deal to buy fleet of F-35 fighter jets | CBC ... (CBC.ca)

Canada has signed off on the final contract to buy F-35 jet fighters to replace the air force's aging CF-18s, Defence Minister Anita Anand revealed Monday.

Anand and other officials stuck to the projection despite inflation which has seen the budgets for other major programs increase dramatically. A senior defence official, speaking on background, said the F-35 will be purchased in phases and that the first tranche of four aircraft will be $85 million US per fighter. The final agreement for 88 warplanes won't see the first delivered until 2026 and the first F-35 squadrons will not be operational until 2029, senior defence officials said during a technical briefing before the minister's announcement.

The RCAF expects to take delivery of the first four aircraft in 2026 — one year later than what was promised earlier this year.

It was obvious, as we saw through the entire process, that they were particularly, and some might say unreasonably or unhealthily, attached to the F-35 aircraft.” There are still hundreds of problems left to solve on the aircraft, and companies are redesigning and replacing equipment on the planes that have already been delivered. They will be followed by an additional delivery of six per year over the subsequent two years. Article content In April 2022, the U.S.

Jets' Nate Schmidt on life in Winnipeg, happiness and fan ... (The Athletic)

Schmidt's reputation as a great interview made him the perfect candidate to take questions directly from you.

I get lyrics stuck in my head from a song and I write it down in my phone — exactly how it is — and then I put it away and I’m good. That’s what I have to do. Because I want to try to bring a lot of jam to my day. And once it’s out of my head, it’s like “Oh yeah, I’ve got this.” I mean, you write things down all of the time. There’s one to get into the garage and there’s a small one to get to the front of the house. I used to write everything out but it’s a little easier when you have a phone on you all of the time. I have a note in my phone. My negative emotions are usually I just, I have to shut down for a bit. And when I left college, I was like: I don’t really want to do that anymore. And I never wanted to be the guy that looks around like, “Oh, I’m getting older.” But there is a definitive end to it. I don’t want you to be shovelling a bunch and doing that stuff.” So a guy in the neighbourhood, I don’t want to call him a kid — he’s like 25 — comes over and shovels. When you get to Winnipeg, you see it’s a small community that has such a passion for not just hockey, but for being a part of Winnipeg.

Canada finalizes agreement to buy 88 US F-35 fighter jets (ABC News)

Canada has finalized an agreement with Lockheed Martin Corp. and the United States government to purchase 88 F-35 fighter jets.

The proposed purchase received public blowback when the Conservatives were in office and the Liberals wanted to capitalize on it,” she said. Meanwhile Canada purchased some Australian F-18s to help extend the life of the Canadian F-18 program until 2032. The announcement comes as Trudeau is set to meet with U.S. The full life cycle of the program is expected to cost $70 billion (US$52 billion). Canada has a close defense relationship with the United States, which includes using fighter jets together to defend North American air space. The government has budgeted about $19 billion Canadian (US$15 billion) for the purchase in what is the largest investment in the Royal Canadian Air Force in more than 30 years.

LILLEY: After wasting years, Trudeau buys the F-35 fighter jets he ... (Toronto Sun)

Canada will buy its military the fighter jets that Justin Trudeau once ridiculed as too expensive, not needed and against our interests.

Of course, none of that happened and the military is in a shambles, worse now than when Trudeau took office, with recruitment for the next generation of military personnel failing. That opposition hardened when Trudeau took over the Liberal leadership in 2013. At some point over the last seven years, reality set in and the F-35 was picked as the best option. We should have taken delivery of Canada’s fleet of jets already, the ones to replace the aging CF-18s which have been defending Canada since 1981. The long delays have been an embarrassment but the best Anand could say about the agreement to buy 88 jets by 2034 is that it had followed a rigorous process. That’s the one that Justin Trudeau said Canada didn’t need, was wasteful and that we would never buy.
