Titans End Season With Heartbreaking, 20-16 Loss to the Jaguars (Tennessee Titans)

The Titans lost a late lead – and eventually the game. The Jaguars scored a defensive touchdown with 2:51 left to take the lead, and the Titans weren't able ...

In the first quarter, the Titans went for it on fourth-and-three not once, but twice, and converted both times on a 17-play drive that took 9:59 off the clock. "I thought we started the game how we wanted to, but you have to finish better. "I told the guys I appreciate their efforts," Henry said. "When you throw the ball, and the ball goes forward after the guy hits you, it feels like … "I felt like my arm was moving forward," Dobbs, who completed 20-of-29 passes for 179 yards with one touchdown and one interception in the contest, said of the late turnover. It's a disappointing way to end the year."

Nearly all of the 70,000-plus on hand were waiting for Lawrence to do something down the stretch. With quarterback Ryan Tannehill (ankle) out for the season, they leaned on Dobbs — an aerospace engineer who has bounced around the league — to be smart with the ball and Henry to grind out tough yards. He overthrew Zay Jones in the end zone and underthrew Christian Kirk. "We wanted to win the division and have a great record, yeah, but it didn’t happen this year. Both teams gathered at midfield together before the game to pray, some of them still wearing shirts to honor Buffalo's Demar Hamlin. The Titans rested several starters last week and essentially created a 10-day break to get healthy. We couldn’t be consistent enough when we needed to and it showed up again.” Lawrence had two would-be touchdowns in the second half fall incomplete. "That’s never the plan, never the goal. We lost five games straight and we just got tighter.” Jacksonville earned the No. “This was one of those games where our defense had to win it for us,” Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence said.

Division Math Shows How Titans Came up Short (Sports Illustrated)

Mike Vrabel has never had a losing record in AFC South games, but as many wins as losses – as was the case this season – is not good enough.

In five years in charge of Tennessee, Vrabel never has had a losing record against the AFC South. At that same point, Jacksonville was 2-6 overall, 1-2 in the division. It gave Jacksonville a sweep of the season series, left the Titans 3-3 overall against their division opponents and second in the standings. That was the Indianapolis Colts in 2006, when they went 3-3 but 12-4 overall, four games ahead of the second-place Titans, who were 4-2 in the division. At 9-8 overall, they finished two games clear of the Titans (7-10). Had the Titans defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday night, they would have finished with a losing record.

Tennessee Titans locked into No. 11 overall pick in 2023 NFL Draft (The Tennessean)

The Tennessee Titans seven-game losing streak produced a lone benefit: a pick inside the top half of the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

[Tennessee Titans QB Joshua Dobbs says arm was going forward on key sack-fumble vs. Jaguars](https://www.tennessean.com/story/sports/nfl/titans/2023/01/08/joshua-dobbs-fumble-reaction-tennessee-titans-jacksonville-jaguars-game/69788019007/) Ohio State's Paris Johnson and Northwestern's Peter Skoronski were the top two offensive tackles in Easterling's latest mock draft. The general manager who will make the Titans' selection in April is unknown; the Titans fired GM Jon Robinson last month, and vice president of player personnel Ryan Cowden has served as interim GM ever since. Kentucky's Will Levis and Florida's Anthony Richardson also rank among the top quarterbacks; Draft Wire's Luke Easterling had both SEC quarterbacks inside the top 10 in his latest mock draft. The Titans will receive the No.
