Partner Content | Maple Leafs vs. Flyers picks and odds: Expect ... (Toronto Star)

The Toronto Maple Leafs hit the road on Sunday to take on the red-hot Philadelphia Flyers.

The over has hit in five of Toronto’s last nine (5-1-3) Sunday games. Flyers +1 (+112): Given the circumstances, we’re pretty surprised to see Philadelphia’s puck line available at this number. The pregame narrative: Philadelphia has won four-straight games heading into today’s contest and Toronto is playing on the second leg of a back-to-back. We’re also not expecting the Leafs to put forward their best defensive effort on Sunday. The Leafs are also turning to Matt Murray in goal today and he’s been shaky lately. He had a quality start against the Colorado Avalanche in between those games but he’s been inconsistent lately.

Flyers vs. Maple Leafs: 'Spanked' by Toronto, Tony DeAngelo ... (NBC Sports)

Tony DeAngelo and the Flyers were humbled by the talented Maple Leafs, 6-2, as the team's four-game winning streak came to a screeching halt Sunday night.

"I fan on it and it ends up in the back of our net," DeAngelo said. The Flyers, on a power play, lost a defensive-zone faceoff and Hart allowed a seeing-eye shot to squeeze past him. Just getting rid of the puck a little too quick, not accurate where I want it to go." But Konecny was one of just three Flyers to record a point Sunday night. 1, the 25-year-old has put up 14 goals in 17 games. The goal that really hurt the Flyers came 1:17 minutes after Deslauriers drew them within 3-2 during the middle stanza. "You just can't overcome some of the things we give them for free. The 25-year-old star dished primary assists on the Maple Leafs' first and third goals. The 24-year-old wasn't sharp, but Toronto's talent advantage was prevalent. John Tortorella's club lost to a better and more talented team Sunday night at the Wells Fargo Center. "We self-destruct the s--- out of ourselves," Tortorella said. Travis Konecny and Nicolas Deslauriers scored for the Flyers.

5 THINGS: Flyers vs. Maple Leafs (NHL.com)

Facing a tough test in their quest for five straight wins, John Tortorella's Philadelphia Flyers (15-17-7) will host Sheldon Keefe's Toronto Maple Leafs ...

Sunday's game is the start of a stretch of three games in four nights (home-road-home) for the Flyers. In the meantime, the Maple Leafs will be playing for the third time in four nights and the fourth time in the last six nights. None of these opportunities mean a thing if a club doesn't execute on the ice in order to take advantage. Frost has posted 13 points (5g, 8a) in the last 12 games, and his regular linemate, Owen Tippett, has 10 points (5g, 5a) in the last seven games. Fellow veteran Scott Laughton has surged to 11 points (6g, 5a) in the last 10 games. The Maple Leafs have largely surged in the last few regular seasons and they present a formidable obstacle for the Flyers if the Philadelphia side is to win its fifth straight game. The difference in the team's current stretch of six wins in the last 10 games is that they've been finding ways more often to be the team that prevails in winnable games by stepping up in key situations and then closing it out. A healthy scratch in the previous game between the teams, Morgan Frost reduced the deficit to 4-2 at 12:01 and then Joel Farabee got Philly within 4-3 at 14:24. This is the third and final meeting of the season series between the teams, and the lone game in Philadelphia. 22, the Flyers played a strong first period and took a 1-0 lead to intermission. Toronto pulled away in the third with three goals to one for the Flyers. The Flyers went 1-for-6 on the power play.
