Bengals' Joe Mixon trolls NFL with coin flip TD celebration (ESPN)

Bengals running back Joe Mixon trolled the NFL by pulling a coin out and flipping it in the air after scoring a first-quarter touchdown against the Ravens.

Cincinnati was already without right tackle [La'el Collins](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/2577302/la'el-collins), who is out for the rest of the season with a torn ACL in his left knee. [Lamar Jackson](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/3916387/lamar-jackson), Baltimore's starting quarterback, missed his fifth straight game with a left knee injury. He also lost a fumble in the end zone for a Bengals touchdown after defensive end [Tyler Boyd](https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/_/id/3045144/tyler-boyd), who knows Hamlin through their time growing up in Pittsburgh and attending the same college, wore Hamlin's Bills No. Burrow, who was 25-of-42 passing for 215 yards and 1 touchdown, wasn't thrilled with his performance. The scenario was part of a proposal approved by the league to account for the canceled game between the "So we have the opportunity to play for a coin flip. After Mixon scored on a 1-yard touchdown run, he pulled a coin out of a glove and flipped it in the end zone, followed with an emphatic kick through the air after it landed. We don't have the opportunity to play for a coin flip that will positively impact us." And on Friday, Bengals coach Zac Taylor lashed out about the rule changes. He bought about five boxes of cigars that players enjoyed in the locker room. Bengals executive vice president Katie Blackburn sent a memo to all clubs to vote against the proposal that was eventually approved, according to ESPN's Seth Wickersham.

The ball squirted out and Joseph Ossai fell on it for a touchdown 30 seconds left in the half, pushing the Cincinnati lead to 24-7 at halftime. "Our players did everything they could to handle it the right way, so now we get a chance to put this one behind us and just focus on the playoffs.” Devastation turned to relief later in the week as the Bills safety showed positive signs of recovery. The Bengals are hoping their listless second half doesn’t spill over into next week. The Ravens also rested two of their biggest offensive weapons, Mark Andrews and J.K. “I’m looking forward to next week and seeing these guys again,” Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith said. Burrow then went 7 for 11 on a drive capped by Mixon's 1-yard plunge. Baltimore needed to win and have Denver beat the Los Angeles Chargers later Sunday to prompt the coin toss. The Ravens (10-7) fought gamely behind rookie third-stringer Anthony Brown, who got the start after throwing just five passes all season. NFL owners approved the coin-flip scenario because the cancellation deprived the Ravens of an opportunity to win the division. The frightening episode led to their game against the Bills being suspended and later canceled. 2 seed in the AFC ended when Buffalo beat New England.

Bengals running back Joe Mixon flipped a coin and then kicked it away when he scored against the Ravens on Sunday.

With the Ravens starting rookie quarterback Anthony Brown and resting key players Mark Andrews and J.K. Dobbins, the Bengals aren’t having much trouble squashing the potential coin flip scenario. If the Bengals (11-4) lose to the Ravens (10-6) in Week 18 and they were to face in the wild card round, the league would flip a coin to decide home field.

If the Bengals lose that coin flip, then Ravens would host the game. 1 seed, nor can they fall to the fifth seed, with the Bills vs. If the Bills beat the Patriots, then Buffalo will claim the No. The Bengals can finish no lower than No. The cancellation helped the league avoid late-season logistical nightmares. Although the range of implications is narrower atter the NFL canceled the Bills-Bengals Week 17 game, there are still significant stakes attached to Cincinnati's AFC North showdown with Baltimore on Sunday; specfically, the Bengals would earn the No.

Coin tossed: Bengals clinch first-round home playoff game with a ... (USA TODAY)

Cincinnati Bengals running back Joe Mixon had a message for the NFL league office on Sunday, and it was waiting inside his glove.

The Bengals got what they were looking for on Sunday, and now their attention turns to winning the Super Bowl. After beating the Ravens on Sunday, the Bengals are right where they wanted to be at this point of the year. Burrow has been playing the best football of his career, and Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo has been befuddling some of the best offensive players in the NFL with his game plans. Hendrickson added another highlight to his Pro Bowl season, and the Bengals took a 24-7 lead into the half. Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson broke free off the edge, got a strip-sack against Brown and forced a fumble that was recovered by defensive end Joseph Ossai in the end zone. Karras predicted a win over the Ravens, saying they’d settle the North title on the field and laying out his plan for a postgame celebration on Sunday. Because of the rule changes, if the Bengals lost on Sunday, there could have been a coin flip to decide the location of the Bengals’ first-round playoff game. After an interception by Mike Hilton, the Bengals' defense ran to the end zone and pretended to fall asleep. After Mixon plunged into the end zone for a touchdown, he brought out the coin. The Bengals won their second consecutive division title and finished the regular season with a 12-4 record. For what felt like the 100th time this season, the Bengals used a source of motivation to fuel another win, beating the Ravens 27-16 at Paycor Stadium in the regular season finale on Sunday. Bengals executive vice president Katie Blackburn sent a memo to the NFL about her frustration.

Considering that the Ravens decided to rest their key starters and are playing their third-string quarterback Anthony Brown, the Bengals should leave this game victorious. This coin flip would only happen if the Ravens defeat the Bengals and the Los Angeles Chargers defeated the Denver Broncos. There is also a scenario where they might have to flip a coin for home-field advantage if they end up facing the Buffalo Bills in the Divisional round.

The Bengals played all their regulars on Sunday and suffered a couple of injuries. ”What matters is how we come out and prepare for the playoff wild-card round. The Bengals have won three of the last four meetings. Brown threw a pair of first-half interceptions and lost a fumble in the end zone that was recovered by the Bengals for a touchdown just before halftime. Moving up to the fifth seed and earning a home playoff game would have required a win over the Bengals, a win by the Los Angeles Chargers over Denver, and a successful coin flip. 5 or 6 seed at stake, Baltimore Ravens coach John Harbaugh rested several starters and went with undrafted rookie Anthony Brown at quarterback in a 27-16 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday.

Is it fair to expect another four turnovers when [Anthony Brown](https://theathletic.com/nfl/player/anthony-brown-P7aQOH45O2lAuZbY/) is watching from the sideline? That’s the thing with Burrow and these Bengals. The Bengals offense couldn’t move the ball after halftime and looked sluggish for long stretches against one of the best defenses in football. Sunday provided cracks of real concern when the Ravens rested starters but were still able to find success with 110 yards on the ground. “That’s probably the best (celebration) all year,” Jessie Bates said. 9 to believe this could be the first of multiple celebrations over the next five weeks. “This year, we have gone about the season preparing ourself to play our best football this time around in the postseason. They tied a franchise record with eight consecutive victories and tied for the most wins in a regular season in team history. Cincinnati enters the postseason in as good of shape as any team could hope. The scene was a party. Ravens vs. Bengals takeaways and everything to know from Week 18 (Bengals Wire)

The Cincinnati Bengals wrapped up home-field advantage for the opening round of the playoffs with Sunday's 27-16 win over the Baltimore Ravens.

That was put on full display before halftime as the ground game pushed the Bengals down the field for seven points despite no serious passing threat at QB. — Basic, checkdown-filled drive for the Bengals on their first effort. In Week 15 against the Bucs, the Bengals fell behind 17-0 before surging back to win. Right side of the line was already depleted with La’el Collins lost for the season. The Bengals couldn’t afford to lose another starter to that unit, so it’s a worst-case scenario if he has to miss a playoff game. Whether Ravens star quarterback Lamar Jackson returns for the playoff game or it’s Tyler Huntley, the Bengals are going to see a much tougher Ravens team in a week. Cincinnati’s defense remains elite and capable of handling any offense, but things don’t project to be nearly as simple when it matters the most. A brief check on Tyler Boyd for a concussion and check on Tee Higgins after a midsection shot weren’t bad. The idea, arguably, is keeping it simple Sunday will give them an advantage when they roll out more complex looks in a rematch with the Ravens a week later. Playing starters as much as they did on Sunday probably wasn’t what the Bengals wanted to do. It’s at least a little concerning given how great he looked on the seven-game tear and right before the Bills game ended in the first quarter. But he missed multiple surefire touchdown passes in the first half.
