Kraken vs Maple Leafs Odds, Picks, and Predictions Tonight ... (Covers.com)

NHL odds, picks, and predictions for the Seattle Kraken at Toronto Maple Leafs on January 5. NHL betting best bet and free pick analysis.

The Maple Leafs are 5-0 SU in their last five games vs. Seattle has been scoring at a rate that's well over expected with a high shooting percentage and equally high expected goals for differential. Over bettors have been cashing in with the Leafs of late as books were slow to adjust to their unsustainable goaltending. Nylander’s participation adds a wrinkle to this total but I’m still confident in the team total without him. The power play is 4-for-9 over the last games and gets a huge advantage tonight vs. Murray has allowed two or fewer in three of his last four starts and has a 9-2-2 record with a .925 save percentage since returning in mid-November. These teams met last season in Toronto with the Leafs winning 6-4 as a -290 ML favorite. Add in the league’s second-highest shooting percentage and this offense should see a regression sooner than later. This offense has also come out of the break hot with 19 goals over four games since the Christmas restart. Wayne Simmonds was on the top line with [William Nylander](https://www.covers.com/sport/hockey/nhl/players/376/william-nylander) was missing this game (absent at practice Wednesday), then [Morgan Rielly](https://www.covers.com/sport/hockey/nhl/players/363/morgan-rielly) to record a power play point for +350 would be my best bet as he would likely slide back into PP1 vs. Louis team, this is a great rebound spot for the Buds, who still managed five goals on 25 shots Tuesday.

The Toronto Maple Leafs host the Seattle Kraken for just the second time in franchise history on Thursday night.

Only two teams have had fewer opportunities with the man advantage (108). Kraken under 0.5 power-play goals (-122): While we expect plenty of goals in this game, Seattle’s power play isn’t likely to be a good source of offence. Toronto is a good bet to win any given period. Seattle, on the other hand, has a minus-five goal differential in the first — only the Vancouver Canucks and Arizona Coyotes have allowed their opponents to score more. Greg Liodice breaks down Thursday's NHL game between the Seattle Kraken and Toronto Maple Leafs.

The content on this page is for informational purposes only. While the Kraken don’t find themselves in the penalty box a whole lot, the penalty kill doesn’t bail them out at all. The Leafs only allow close to 2.4 xGA/60, while their penalty kill could be better at 77.6%. We may be compensated for the links provided on this page. If Grubauer plays, I don’t think this will be close, but the glaring hole is Seattle’s penalty kill vs. Maple Leafs below. They place sixth in Expected Goals with an above average 54.16 xGF% and average close to 10 and a half High Danger Chances per game. Since goaltending isn’t a strength, their defense has to pick up the slack. The rookie is on his way to a potential Calder Trophy if he keeps playing the way he is. While last year was a travesty for the Kraken on the offensive end, they’ve really picked it up. However, he’s played their last three games, so perhaps it’s time for Philipp Grubauer to take the crease. Louis Blues](https://www.actionnetwork.com/nhl/odds/st-louis-blues), but make no mistake about it – the Leafs are legit.

McDavid], it is a mentality and a focus — not just for me but for everyone who is out there. Those are the kinds of things you need to limit — as you do with most teams, but they seem to really generate momentum and come in waves. It was a bit of an out-of-character game for us. They have guys who are playing well, are confident, and are scoring. It is about managing that, and it is about establishing our game. But our focus will be on our game and how we can play. [Leafs](https://mapleleafshotstove.com/) team that is looking to get back into its defensive form from November to mid-December after an uptick in goals against of late. The goaltending could be looked at one of two ways: maybe it costs them more games once the hot sticks cool off, or maybe the team save percentage figure — particularly on the penalty kill — is unsustainably low and improves in the second half. A look at their recent heat map charts in those wins shows they’re doing a particularly good job of challenging defenses by getting pucks and bodies into the low slot/net-front area. They have lots of quickness and skill. They play very well as a team. They score a lot.

The Toronto Maple Leafs look for their fifth win in seven games when they host the Seattle Kraken on Thursday night.

Dunn has created more offence in his last 24 games, taking two or more shots on target 15 times. Dunn over 1.5 shots (+105): This line is reasonable based on Dunn’s season-long averages, but it isn’t reflective of his recent performance. In his last nine games, Marner has averaged 2.3 shots on net and hit this under five times. Matthews has managed a tally in 10 of his last 16 contests while peppering the net with 4.5 shots per game. Matt Murray falters as Maple Leafs handled easily in loss to Kraken (Toronto Sun)

The summertime concerns about the Maple Leafs' goaltending were put aside once the 2022-23 season started.

We would have loved to have been cleaner on a lot of pucks.” Vince Dunn scored on a shot Murray should have stopped, as the goalie got a piece of it with his left arm but nothing more. As Sandin was in the room getting repairs before returning, John Tavares scored at 10:54. It’s not a one-man thing out there. “It would not have happened without a lot of guys in this room, or everyone in this room. Fans will vote for the final 12 players. During the game, the NHL announced the first 32 players for all-star weekend in Sunrise, Fla., on Feb 3-4, and Marner was selected to participate by the NHL’s hockey operations department as each team got one representative. The Kraken’s last four goals were at five-on-five. It could have gone a different way.” The Leafs have allowed at least four goals in four of their past five games, so it’s becoming more than a blip. That comes on Saturday night at home against the Detroit Red Wings. Article content
