Giannis Antetokounmpo has been upgraded to available for Tuesday's game between the Washington Wizards and Milwaukee Bucks.
They are the tenth seed in the Eastern Conference and 7-14 in the 21 games they have played on the road. In 2021, the Bucks won the NBA Championship, and last season they lost in Game 7 of the second round of the NBA Playoffs. They are 23-13 in 36 games and a very impressive 15-4 in the 19 games they have hosted in Wisconsin.
Before a rematch with the Wizards on Tuesday, point guard Jrue Holiday had missed three games and forward Giannis Antetokounmpo sat out Sunday.
He checked in late in the first quarter and made his first shot of the game with a three-pointer. It was the first of two he made in the quarter to help the Bucks take a 32-28 lead after one. The Bucks head right to the airport to play the Toronto Raptors at 6:30 p.m. In the closing minute of the first half, the Bucks worked the entire shot clock and made five passes in a possession that ended with Portis getting a wide open corner three. "They were great in the paint the previous game and so it was definitely a focal point," Lopez said. Gafford was just 1-for-4 in the first half for three points and was a non-factor while Beal was on the court. 23-30, and then he followed that up with a 22-point, five-rebound performance against the Bucks in a Wizards' win Sunday. "I'm not really the type to complain or give it (as) an excuse, but yeah, I feel like I could definitely be better health-wise," he began with a resigned chuckle. It had been a tough month for the Bucks as a team and for point guard Jrue Holiday, who missed six of his team’s 16 games from Dec. Antetokounmpo ended the night with a dance following a strip-steal of Kristaps Porziņģis and layup with 1:23 to go for 55 points. "It's something I'm not the best at it and I have to get better because I know I'm going to be put myself in situations that sometimes I've got to knock down free throws for my team to win a basketball game. I just try to get as many extra reps as I can, before the game, the day before the game, after the game, anytime I have the opportunity to just rep, rep it out, I take it.

Antetokounmpo poured in 55 points as Milwaukee ended Washington's five-game winning streak.
Washington’s final bucket of the half came with 3:55 remaining, and the Bucks closed on a 15-0 run to take a 61-49 lead into halftime. “There has to be a wall because it only takes him three, maybe four dribbles to go the length of the floor. Kristaps Porzingis led the Wizards with 22 points and added nine rebounds and four assists. 10 pick in last year’s draft, has been on assignment with the Wizards’ G League affiliate for more than half of the season, it wouldn’t have been unusual for him to travel with the Wizards for a homecoming trip — especially with the team in Milwaukee for four days. The Bucks put some bigger bodies on the court — 6-11 Bobby Portis and 6-7 MarJon Beauchamp — to match up with Washington’s guards on the other end. “There has to be just a little more urgency to get below the ball,” Coach Wes Unseld Jr. But the Bucks, in addition to having a human cheat code in Antetokounmpo, proved to be excellent problem-solvers. Every time the Bucks’ lead got too small in the fourth quarter, he was there with a suavely drawn foul or a bruising layup to bump it back to a comfortable edge. On top of the loss — which ended a five-game winning streak — the Wizards again lost Bradley Beal to left hamstring soreness after he returned from a three-game absence to play most of the first half. Although their defense was inconsistent, the Wizards didn’t fall apart as much as they didn’t have anything game-changing to pull out of their toolbox down the stretch. [Donovan Mitchell’s 71-point game](https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2023/01/02/donovan-mitchell-71-points/?itid=lk_inline_manual_5) for Cleveland on Monday, Antetokounmpo logged the league’s fifth 50-point game in the past few days. The two-time MVP and his Milwaukee Bucks were the most robust test the Wizards had faced since Delon Wright and Rui Hachimura returned from injuries late last month, and Washington looked threatening — for about 16 minutes.
Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo scored a career-high 55 points against the Wizards Tuesday.
His jump shot may not be all the way developed, but the skill with which he can finish around the rim is rivaled by few around the league. He had a few gorgeous spin moves in the run of play and also out of post-ups. He made a gorgeous up-and-under finish on the baseline. While Antetokounmpo scored all but one of his baskets in the lane, the variety with which he scores at the rim always stands out. While the Bucks have struggled to make enough shots around him to consistently pull out wins over the last two weeks, opponents have been unable to stop him individually. Coming into the contest, Antetokounmpo and teammate Bobby Portis were tied for third-most double-doubles in the NBA with 21 each.
Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo doesn't want his game to be flashy -- he just wants it to be boringly successful.
I want other people to feel like my game is boring." The greats — the best players — never get bored. That's what I want to do. "I just do what I do, and people don't talk about it because it becomes boring — I do it every single night. This scoring ability allows Antetokounmpo to consistently get buckets without having to resort to flashy moves or deep shots from beyond the arc. Indeed, Antetokounmpo is aiming for a game that is anything but exciting.

"We don't only play for the name on the back, we play for the name on the front. The legs are gone, I don't have legs to get that high.' Today I tried to get that high. Winning has always been the top priority for both parties, but they haven't been doing much of it as of late; entering the game, they had lost five of their last six and were coming off a 23-point defeat to the Wizards on Jan. It seemed ambitious, even for one of the most athletic players in the league, but Antetokounmpo was mere centimeters away from pulling off the dunk of the year. Frustration over the missed dunk aside, it was a successful night for both Antetokounmpo and the Bucks. Out on the fastbreak in the first half, he even threw down a windmill slam that was reminiscent of his early days in the league. Antetokounmpo showed plenty of finesse on Tuesday, using an array of spin moves, step-throughs, and Eurosteps to find his way to the rim. No one in red and white was any match for Antetokounmpo's aggressiveness; he shot 18-of-24 in the restricted area and got to the line for 16 free throws. Late in the fourth quarter, he crossed over, used a screen from [NBA](/nba/)/ABA merger in 1976-77 to have three consecutive 40-10 games. This was the third consecutive 40-point outing for Antetokounmpo, which is not only a career-best streak but ties the franchise record. "Hard to come up with all the words to describe him," Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer said.

But perhaps the takeaway message here is that the 7-footer has plans to keep hitting these heights and that we should all get comfortable in his MVP-reaching consistency. Unfortunately, Giannis hasn't quite smoothed out all the kinks in his effort to be 'boring'. "I want to get in a position...that my game is boring," Antetokounmpo said. Giannis scored a career-high 55 points against the Washington Wizards in a 123-113 win on Tuesday. "I don't get bored. I want other people to feel like my game is boring".

Indeed, this is about the only way to describe what's been going on across the league of late. If you give a scorer of today's skill and shotmaking level a clean canvas from which to create, you're going to see magic. This, in turn, leads to more rhythmic, less interrupted and ultimately cleaner avenues toward, and looks at, the basket over the majority of minutes. Freedom of movement has indeed unlocked the modern scorer, but before jumping to the low-hanging conclusion that point totals are being inflated by more whistles and more free throws, understand that this season there are, on average, 20.5 fouls being called per game. And these defenders have to do this without fouling at disproportionate rates, which, as evidenced by the small free-throw numbers referenced above, they have proven largely successful in doing. The versatility of today's top defenders is incredible. The numbers we're seeing are a result of that offensive cocktail. Antetokounmpo entered Tuesday with a 38.61 usage rate, which would be the fourth-highest mark of all-time, per Basketball-Reference, which also notes that 18 qualifying players finished last season with a usage rate of at least 30. The [NBA](/nba/) has always been a league of numbers, whether traditional or new-age algorithmic, and business is booming this season. Just 10 weeks into the schedule, there have already been six games of at least 55 points, which is an NBA record for a single season. Doncic and Embiid, who are responsible for four of the 14 50-point games this season, currently own the fifth- and eighth-highest usage rates in recorded history. You might say there are clear answers as to how modern NBA grounds have become so statistically fertile, and the pace at which today's game is played might be your second conclusion beyond the obvious 3-point revolution.
Giannis Anteteokounmpo is arguably the best basketball player in the world due to his consistent ability to dominate the paint and evolving jumper.

Giannis Antetokounmpo dropped a career-high 55 points in the Milwaukee Bucks' 123-113 win over the Washington Wizards on Tuesday night. Speaking to.
Wilt Chamberlain, Elgin Baylor and Bob Petit were responsible for all 27 of those games in 1961-62. [Basketball-Reference.com](https://twitter.com/bball_ref/status/1610485945777668096), there have been a total of 14 50-point games from 10 different players so far this season. Tuesday marked Antetokounmpo's fifth game with at least 40 points in his past seven games. I want other people to feel like my game is boring.
While Antetokounmpo may "want other people to feel like my game is boring," there's nothing dull about his continued evolution on the court.
We have to be the best that we can be in what we do and that’s what I try to do. But at the end of the day, can I put myself in a position to be one of the best players — and not necessarily the best players — one of the great players that brings it every single night? To some that might be boring, but for Bucks fans it was just the latest spellbinding chapter in the developing story of one of the franchise’s greatest players. I try to be the best that I can be.” I want to be one of those guys that every single night that I bring it and I think I’ve put myself in a position to be able to do that for my team, for myself. That he’s been able to take care of his body every single night and put himself in a position to be successful and helps his team every single night to win, that’s the goal.” [Rui Hachimura](https://theathletic.com/nba/player/rui-hachimura-qzSY3bocNkNzQ2KH/) reached toward Antetokounmpo and put himself out of position to protect the baseline. “I want to have fun, I want to enjoy the game, I want to create art as much as I can and I want to get in a position that my game — which I think I have gotten — to the position that my game is boring,” Antetokounmpo said. At the end of the day, there are players that have come to the league and they’ve been great, and every given night, there’s gonna be somebody that’s going to be great. “There’s going to be some times where they are going to show a crowd for like two, three seconds and then once my teammates get closer to the 3-point line, the shooters get closer to the 3-point line, there’s a second there that they’re gonna kind of look. In the fourth quarter, he did a spectacular job manipulating the defense and showing off his feel for the game. On top of that, Antetokounmpo became just the third player since the NBA/ABA merger in 1976 to have three consecutive games with at least 40 points and 10 rebounds.

His path has provided the foundation for his humility. “I feel this connection almost to his mother because he could be my kid, and (because) the hard work is what got him here.” “Greece every summer, Greek school on Saturdays, Greek dance on Thursday nights.
