The Nashville Predators will take the ice in Bridgestone Arena tonight to face off against the Montreal Canadiens. Here's your preview.

The Nashville Predators have this game in their hands if the offense shows up and the team comes in focused and ready to play. On the flip side, however, if the team comes in looking slow, the Canadiens will make them pay quickly. The Predators defense will need to help Saros to keep the 22 year-old forward in check. Caufield leads the Canadiens in goals with 21 on the season and a point total of 30 thus far. If the offense can show up and if goaltender The Canadiens are dead last in the Atlantic Division, leaving them 7 spots out of a wildcard spot.

NHL Odds, Preview, Prediction: Canadiens vs. Predators (January 3) (The Action Network)

Ryan Dadoun breaks down Tuesday's NHL game between the Montreal Canadiens and Nashville Predators.

It’s true that Montreal’s defense has been really bad, but Nashville’s poor offense isn’t well positioned to take advantage of it in the same way that Florida and Washington could. In that context, what I’m really interested in is the Over/Under of 6 goals. The odds for taking Montreal on the puck line is -140 via [BetMGM](https://www.actionnetwork.com/online-sports-betting/reviews/betmgm), so going that route isn’t too exciting. After all, if Nashville only manages two or three goals in the game, then Montreal finishing within a goal of them is a reasonable possibility. [Rangers](https://www.actionnetwork.com/nhl/odds/new-york-rangers), which are in the middle-of-the-pack at 16th with 3.18 goals per game. Given the Canadiens’ offensive woes, it will be tough for them to get much of anything by him with the way he’s been playing. Nashville hasn’t been particularly good of late either, though it is worth noting that the Predators might have turned a corner. That suggests that the Canadiens’ blueliners have been part of the problem, and the defensive woes shouldn’t simply be put exclusively at the goaltenders’ feet. Mike Matheson has shown signs that he could be a key defenseman for Montreal, recording a goal and six points in 10 games while averaging 24:14 of ice time, but an abdomen injury and more recently a lower-body injury have kept him out of the lineup for most of the campaign. Unfortunately for the Predators, it’s not that Duchene and Forsberg, who have 27 and 32 points, respectively, are having amazing seasons, it’s just that they don’t really have anything better. 21-29, but he provided both of the Canadiens’ goals in their 9-2 loss to Washington, putting him up to 21 markers and 30 points in 37 contests this season. So is there a reasonable chance that Montreal might end the slump Tuesday, or are the Canadiens in for another bad night?

The Montreal Canadians face the Nashville Predators tonight. See the odds, prediction and pick in the NHL on Tuesday.

This all sounds pretty damning for the Canadiens, but sometimes you need to look at a bet through a different lens for it to make sense. 1 and even that mediocre record is a bit flattering. Not only have they won just once in their last nine games, but they also have a -25 goal differential in that span. The Montreal Canadiens have run out of steam. Right now, Montreal has got 7.5% odds with its own pick and 6% with the pick they’ve obtained from Florida in return for Ben Chiarot nearly a year ago. This morning though, St-Louis announced that Richard would be back in the line-up at the expense of Armia, a decision that doesn’t come a minute too soon for most people, the big Finn looked like he had more lives than a cat there for a while. Of course, the Canadiens’ good start to the season means they probably won’t finish bottom 3 in the league, but still their current rhythm could see them land good odds in the draft lottery.
