Even with a recent rash of injuries that has seven players currently out of the lineup, the Jets remain fifth in the NHL in goals against per game (2.61) while ...

Hellebuyck has often been referred to as the backbone of the Jets. As for Scheifele, the transformation of his 200-foot game under Bowness and his coaching staff is impossible to ignore, along with his rekindled passion for the game. Wheeler has one more season left on that deal and while a separation was considered last offseason by both parties, all signs point to him finishing out his contract as a member of the Jets as he pursues his chase of the Stanley Cup. He’s delivered top-notch goaltending for a long time and as another potential UFA in the summer of 2024, he’s also going to be looking for the richest deal in franchise history, eclipsing the $8.25 million AAV Wheeler signed for back in the summer of 2018. He understands the magnitude of the situation and recognizes that big decisions are coming for the likes of Hellebuyck, Scheifele, Dubois and Wheeler, perhaps as early as this summer for the bulk of them. The expectation is that Cheveldayoff will look long and hard to push all of his chips to the middle of the table in this high-stakes game of poker, perhaps finding the equivalent of bringing in Paul Stastny as he did in 2018.

Strong penalty kill and Hellebuyck's goaltending to thank for Jets' win (Sportsnet.ca)

As the Jets said goodbye to 2022, they did so with a sensational showing from Connor Hellebuyck, who made 31 saves in what turned out to be a 2-1 victory over ...

His play kept us in the game. “And when we broke down, we had Connor (Hellebuyck) in the net and he was exceptional. I thought they did a good job of that — (with) some good sifters,” said Connor. Pionk looks like a guy who is battling through an injury, but on this night he chipped in his first two-point effort since Dec. Any way we can get them, good teams find a way to win, that’s the bottom line. “I don’t think we want to make it that hard for (Hellebuyck), but it seems like when we need him the most, it seems like he’s there.

The Oilers other big offensive threat is Connor McDavid who had a five point night and is leading the league in scoring. The Jets looked better after a bad start against the Canucks and will want to build on that. They scored four goals in the first period against the Kraken and I kept on waiting for them to blow the lead because no matter what they do, they are still the Oilers. However, it sounds like he wasn’t playing last night due to general hockey body issues and not a single injury in particular that made him miss the game. Heinola has been all over the map with the Jets, but is starting to show the player he is in the AHL to the NHL coaches. GAME RECAP: Jets 2, Oilers 1 (NHL.com)

EDMONTON, AB - Hockey can be a game of inches and that's all it took to give the Winnipeg Jets the 2-1 win at Rogers Place on Saturday night. A harmless looking ...

I think we carried the play most of the game. I think we played the style of game we wanted to. I think in the game we had chances. I thought we spent most of the game in their end. The longest streak of the NHL season still belongs to the Maple Leafs Mitch Marner who went on a 23-game streak earlier in the year. I thought we asserted our game right off the bat. "Confident, calm, kind of back to my game and I thought the guys played great. Things began to unravel when a Cody Ceci clearing attempt flew over the boards leading to a Winnipeg power play on the delay of game call. "I think there's been a good commitment to the defensive side of the puck," Head Coach Jay Woodcroft said after the game. The bundle of helpers propelled him into a tie for eight in league scoring with 45 points, just five away from the 50 points Nugent-Hopkins recorded the last season. Coming off a big victory in Seattle, but with a very tight turn around, the Oilers answered with one of their strongest defensive efforts of the season. A harmless looking point shot towards the Oilers net by Neal Pionk and a hustle play by Kyle Connor propelled the Jets to the New Years Eve victory.

It also appeared that Kostin may have suffered a serious leg injury in the dying seconds. Just a lot of unselfish guys back there getting in front of lanes and blocking a lot of shots." Some nights you play well and don't get the result you are looking for. "I think we played a pretty solid team game tonight," he said. The guys have a tremendous amount of confidence in him.
