Connor McDavid has 5 points as Edmonton Oilers crush Kraken (Globalnews.ca)

Connor McDavid had a goal and four assists as the Edmonton Oilers routed the Seattle Kraken 7-2 Friday night.

The actual game starts at 8 p.m. So, it’s a credit to our players and their level of execution, especially right off the bat.” Jesse Puljujarvi beat new keeper Martin Jones at the halfway point of the first to make it 4-0. “We were able to assert the game we wanted to play right off the bat. He has 37 points during the streak. “I certainly like making plays and setting guys up, but I think it’s something I’ve learned throughout my career is you’ve got to be a little bit selfish,” McDavid said after the game.

Game Notes: Edmonton Oilers @ Seattle Kraken (Oilers Nation)

1. The Kraken own an 18-11-4 record coming into Friday's game. They're tied with the Oilers with 40 points in the standings but they have three games in hand.

Grubauer was a mess in 2021-22 and he’s struggled again this year to an .889 save percentage over 12 starts. They also traded for two-way winger Oliver Bjorkstrand and they signed Justin Schultz to give them a defender who can produce offence from the blueline. Seattle also made four picks in the second round and two in the third round and they already boast one of the stronger prospect groups in hockey. But while the 2021-22 season was an ugly one for the Kraken, as they went 27-49-6, they started laying the foundation for success in the future. They’re tied with the Oilers with 40 points in the standings but they have three games in hand. That isn’t the case this season.

Can Skinner (and the Oilers defence) stand tall in front of Seattle? Connor McDavid scored his 31st of the season, Tyson Barrie was in for one, but Skinner did the deed. Stuart Skinner was the star of the show, he turned aside all but one of Calgary’s 47 shots.

We can do a lot better job stopping him, but when you give him time and space, he’s going to make you look stupid most of the time.”

Philipp Grubauer pulled early in Kraken's embarrassing 7-2 loss to ... (The Seattle Times)

Grubauer's three goals allowed on the only five shots he'd face signaled the improved Kraken still haven't left their goaltending issues behind.

But after stopping 41 shots in a 3-2 loss to Calgary two nights prior, Grubauer didn’t look to have the same mojo this time and Hakstol got him out of there before things got worse. They were outshot 15-7 and out-chanced by a gap even bigger than the Kraken defenders kept giving the attacking Oilers. But he didn’t and that meant a reeling Kraken side that already had given up early goals by Zach Hyman and Klim Kostin were in one of those vintage 2021-22 holes they couldn’t dig out of. Though Connor McDavid closed out the scoring with just more than nine minutes to go on a five-point night for him, this game was effectively over just before the four-minute mark of the opening frame. The Kraken fell to 18-12-4 with their eighth loss in 11 games and now trail the Oilers by two points – tumbling into fourth place in the Pacific Division. “I mean, regardless of the situation we need a goaltender to make some saves.

The fact Bedard plays for the Regina Pats – Eberle’s former team in his Regina hometown – made it special for the Kraken forward to see his goal record equaled in such fashion. “Knowing he was going to do this has been a real morale boost for him this past week,” said his grandfather, Scott Pfeifer, part of the family group that’s been staying in a Seattle hotel ever since the surgery. She and her husband, Cameron Carter – Ryan’s stepfather – had brought the child to the hospital in Anchorage when his headaches wouldn’t cease. A win by Canada would clinch the second seed in the medal round. He won silver his second time out, finishing with 14 goals and 12 assists in the two tournaments he competed in. “They didn’t know whether they’d even get the surgery done in time,” she said. Clevenger had started playing hockey for a Learn to Play team in Anchorage after growing up in a family that loved the sport. And earlier Friday, in his first journey outside the hospital since his ordeal began, a wheelchair-bound Clevenger attended the team’s morning skate at the Kraken Community Iceplex and got to meet afterward with forward Ryan Donato and goaltender Martin Jones. His favorite team had been the Chicago Blackhawks until the Kraken began play last year and he also counts the Vegas Golden Knights as his No. Clevenger squirmed with delight, his little legs kicking up in the wheelchair. “I told him he should try to be just like (NHL scoring leader) Connor McDavid.” After a 9 1/2 -hour surgery to remove the tumor on Nov.

Then, with about 8 minutes gone in the the period, Kostin got into a bit of a fracas with Tanev and Penny Oleksiak’s brother. Seattle continued to press as the intermission loomed, but they couldn’t find a third goal before the buzzer went. Edmonton was able to kill it off, with McDavid getting the best chance after stealing it and racing off to a breakaway, but he couldn’t beat Jones. Seattle did start to push back a little bit — for arguably the first time all night — and were rewarded for their efforts. The Oilers PP hopped over the boards and wasted no time: Donato gets play going north, Geekie with the primary helper to Sprong. Early on in the second, Dylan Holloway decided to have his first NHL fight with Vince Dunn. remaining but he flubbed on a gift as the trailer of a Foegele-Yamamoto 2 on 1. Seattle had only scored once in their last 25 power plays (powers play?) coming into tonight, and that horrible slump continued through their first man advantage of the evening. By this point — some 3:56 into the first period — Dave Hakstol had seen enough, and opted to pull Grubauer in favor of Martin Jones. This time via Darnell Nurse beating Grubauer clean from the high slot off a Connor McDavid feed: McLeod was shifted into Leon Draisaitl’s spot on L2 after the big German was absent for warm up and kept out of tonight’s game.

Your last Kraken game of 2022 features Connor McDavid and the hollowed out dumpster of a team he and Leon Draisaitl are expected to drag to relevancy.

The Kraken meanwhile, are struggling mightily right now; mostly struggling to keep leads or come back like they’ve been able to earlier in the year. The Oilers have been getting themselves into a real groove lately, though there have been a few stinkers (Anaheim and Nashville on the same week?) in their otherwise much improved performance. [Kraken](https://www.davyjoneslockerroom.com/) are now in the very funny position of being in the wildcard with nearly identical points and a slight lead on goal differential.

GAME RECAP: Oilers 7, Kraken 2 (NHL.com)

McDavid posts five points and Nugent-Hopkins contributes four helpers in a seven-goal outburst by the Oilers in a Pacific Division bout with Seattle on ...

I thought we all did a good job of that, and right from the get-go, we had a simple mentality of just putting pucks on net and going to get them and moving pucks quick. We believe we have a lot of really good hockey players, and when you're missing someone like Leon, it's not that you're replacing them, it's just other people are able to step up to the forefront and pick up the slack." Nugent-Hopkins and McDavid both had four assists each, with the captain also adding an unassisted goal in the third period to extend his incredible point streak to a career-tying 17 games that includes 16 goals and 21 assists for 37 points. "To me, I think we have a lot of really good hockey players. After exiting the box and returning to the bench, Holloway received plenty of shinpad taps and board claps from the Oilers side of the ice as an appreciation for the young forward's first NHL scrap. If (I need to), I will fight for everybody on the team." The two were wrapped up battling in front of the Kraken net a minute-and-a-half into the second period when pushing and shoving eventually led to throwing fists. It's the best league in the world, he's off to a career year, and he's doing something that the league hasn't seen for a very long time." "I'm not an English major, so I don't know the proper term, but I said that the other day because what he is doing I think we should all realize is quite special. The Oilers power play went 2-for-2 on the evening, increasing their efficiency to 33.3 percent that would stand alone as an NHL record if the regular season ended tonight. While Kostin elected to backhand his chance in close, the Bison King snapped a quick shot glove side for his second goal in four games. They say you're at your most vulnerable defensively after scoring a goal, and the Kraken nearly nullified Puljujarvi's goal on a breakaway opportunity for Andre Burakovsky a minute after the Oilers made it a 4-0 score.

PRE-GAME REPORT: Oilers at Kraken (NHL.com)

The Oilers head to Seattle for a Pacific Division matchup with the Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena.

Draisaitl leads the Oilers with nine career points against Seattle and has a team high three goals in three games against the Kraken... McDavid is the first player to record point streak of 16-plus games in consecutive seasons since Dany Heatley (2005-06 and 2006-07) and will look to tie longest point streak of his career set Oct. Friday's game will mark Edmonton's first of four games against the Kraken this season and the first of two games in Seattle... "I think just the rigours of an NHL season lends itself to bumps and bruises." We took a bad penalty that ended up in a tie game when we had a lot of momentum rolling." "I got asked (about the road record) after the game in Calgary as well, and to me it, comes down to a level of simplicity, a mindset of doing whatever it takes to get the job done, and not trying to complicate things but embracing a level of simplicity to our game," Woodcroft said. "I think big picture wise you want to do that for sure, but right now we're on the taking care of business on a day-to-day basis," Woodcroft said. The coach will hope to have the star German available after Draisaitl recorded multi-point games in all three meetings with the Kraken last season. "It's a credit to the work that their coaching staff and their players have put in. "A lot of younger kids are seeing that and trying to get into hockey, so it's huge that they got a team. The Kraken have been surging to start the season after last year's inaugural season that saw the team only win 27 games and finish 30th in the NHL standings. They have a lot of good players that made some good signings in the offseason.
