ET (7:30 p.m. - Time: 6:30 p.m. — Play is back to 5 on 5, but not before Canada nearly capitalized again on the power play as Logan Stankoven danced through the Swedish defense and missed wide with the shot. Axel Sandin Pellikka was called for interference at the end of the period, so Canada starts the second on a power play. — Sweden is going to the power play as Nathan Gaucher is called for holding. — Two great chances, one at one end and one at the other. — Chaos on the 5 on 3 as Gaucher nearly gets a shorthanded goal for Canada. — Once again, the Canada penalty kill comes up huge, killing off the 5 on 3 and ensuing power play. Sweden had Canada on its heels for the last few minutes of the period thanks to the Canadian penalties, but Milic and the PK units come through. Reminder — Canada has to win in regulation in order to finish as the No. — Canada is making Milic's period extremely easy, keeping the puck in the Sweden zone and as far away from its goaltender as possible. Bedard with the assist to tie Eric Lindros for the all-time Canadian World Juniors record for points (31), as well as the Canadian record for most points at a single tournament (18).

It’s likely they will clog the neutral zone and try to minimize Team Canada’s speed in transition. What has impressed me is his willingness to battle hard along the boards and out front his net in his zone. 2) Take advantage on the power play. Hopefully for Team Canada he is up to the task. His draft stock is on the rise. He has been the MVP of the tournament for Team Sweden. This is the biggest start of his career to date. When he gets the edge, on zone entries, he is proving to be a dangerous player. He’s not a heavy player (176 pounds) but he’s willing to drive to the hard areas and battle in the trenches. Lysall played four minutes in the first period before leaving the game. 4) Thomas Milic gets the start in goal for Team Canada. The team is relying on them to carry the mail.

Our last set of World Junior Championship predictions of the group stage features Canada taking on Sweden in Group A.
Although people have called Canada’s goaltending weak, the biggest concern is discipline and maturity, as they let a game against the surprisingly good Czechia squad fall due to a lack of maturity and discipline. they allowed their first two goals of the tournament against legitimate competition, and they face their second team who at least has a chance of winning it all or rather win a game for that matter. Both of the teams they have faced, Czechia and Germany, have not won a game so far and have been dominated all tournament by pretty much everybody. Although they don’t have a player like Bedard to light the world on fire, the majority of their forward group has multiple points, with a fair amount having over a point per game. Canada and Sweden are arguably playing one of the most important games of the tournament. they started with an embarrassing 5-2 loss to Czechia, dominating their competition on their way to the 3rd place spot in Group A.

After blowing out Germany and Austria, Canada faced a much stiffer test in Sweden on New Year's Eve at the World Juniors. It didn't matter.
— TSN (@TSN_Sports) Connor Bedard factored into each goal, picking up assists on the goals scored by Joshua Roy, Brennan Othmann, and Tyson Hinds. They scored twice in the opening 2:08 of the game, and took a 3-0 lead by the 11:45 mark.
Canada wrapped up second place in Group A, and Connor Bedard hit another national milestone.
Bedard picked up a point by sending Korchinski the puck, his fourth of the game, 18th of the tournament, and 31st all-time World Juniors points to tie Eric Lindros. He went hard into his check along the boards, and immediately crumpled to the ice, screaming in pain as he crawled to the bench, and was helped to the dressing room. In a head-spinning display of puck movement, Roy picked up the puck along the boards, dropped it back to Bedard who was monitoring how the situation was unfolding in the zone and quickly fired it across the zone to Logan Stankoven. The second period began with a power play for Canada, but it generated only one shot on net as the Swedes had tightened up defensively. Canada’s dominance was brought to a halt when Zach Ostapchuk was too exuberant on a forecheck and ended up kneeing a Swedish player at the offensive goal line, getting assessed a five-minute major and game misconduct. Canada got a chance to work on the power play when (the other) Elias Pettersson was called for roughing moments later.
Brennan Othmann scored twice and Connor Bedard added four assists to give Canada its third-consecutive win.
