Apple, Fitbit should use all that data they collect from you to protect ... (USA TODAY)

In doing so, digital health products stand to benefit a far greater swath of society, even those who aren't wearing wearable apps. Douglas Yeung.

Now, it is likely a wealthier and thus an already healthier set of people that tend to purchase digital health products. But we also have new cards to play, like the vast repositories of health sensor data and powerful artificial intelligence techniques that can help us make sense of it. Even so, the opportunity remains too great to ignore. [Fitbit publishes reports](https://blog.fitbit.com/fittest-cities-in-america/) that show, for example, communities where people exercise the most. Some users may have privacy concerns about sharing data with companies or public health agencies. [other digital data](https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-021-21018-5) already feed into some public health models. A wearable that tracks your mood and sleep might intervene based on those metrics. What this might mean for the ever-growing market of wearables is a new focus beyond the individual, to those in their household, their friends, even their whole community. But a social-enabled algorithm might be able to go several steps further, recognizing troubling trends among one’s close contacts – such as social media posts suggesting self-harm, and thus when someone might themselves be at greater risk for suicide. In truth, we have less control over our own health than we like to think. These models and their underlying datasets could prove to be a boon to those people and agencies responsible for protecting and improving all of our health. How To Save & Share Apple Watch Faces With Friends (Screen Rant)

Apple Watch users spend a lot of time creating watch faces that fit their needs and style, and they can share these creations with friends.

Sharing directly from an Apple Watch can be done by holding on the watch face and tapping the 'Share' icon. After sending the Apple Watch face, recipients can tap the shared link to view the watch face and add it to their 'My Faces' collection. Then, tap the 'Share' icon to share the watch face with friends or save it to the device. After opening the Apple Watch app on iPhone, tap the watch face that will be shared in the 'My Faces' list. [under the name of the watch face](https://screenrant.com/apple-nike-watch-faces-every-apple-watch-model/). Apple Hit with Federal Class Action Lawsuit Alleging 'Racial Bias' in ... (Law & Crime)

“Plaintiff expected the product would not incorporate biases and defects of pulse oximetry with respect to persons of darker skin tone.” “Algorithms designed for fingertip sensing are inappropriate when based on wrist measurements, and can lead to over 90% of readings being unusable.” Morales alleges violations of New York General Business Law and State Consumer Fraud Acts. “The conclusion was that ‘reliance on pulse oximetry to triage patients and adjust supplemental oxygen levels may place Black patients at increased risk for hypoxemia,'” the complaint states. Morales also sued on behalf of residents of North Dakota, Wyoming, Idaho, Alaska, Iowa, Mississippi, Arkansas, North Carolina and Utah, under those states’ consumer fraud laws during the relevant statute of limitations periods. “Plaintiff was aware the Product purported to measure blood oxygen levels and he believed it did this without regard to skin tone, which was relevant to him based on his skin tone,” the lawsuit states.

Apple Watch vs Garmin watch: Which should you buy in 2023? (Techradar)

Price; Health and Fitness; Battery; Lifestyle. The Apple Watch vs Garmin showdown has been a long time coming. Up until recently, Garmin has ...

When it comes to lifestyle, the Apple Watch is built to lead. The fact it works so well as a second screen for your [iPhone](https://www.techradar.com/reviews/iphone-14-review) (opens in new tab) is another big appeal here – potentially saving you iPhone battery. Yes the battery life is less on this watch but that's in part because you'll be using it so much thanks to all the helpful wrist-based functionality. So if you're a competing racer, or pushing your limits then Garmin can help you, but if you just want to stay fit and healthy with a simple, lifestyle-focused readout, then Apple should have you covered. Thanks to the large, bright and colourful display with touch controls, it is a full-on multimedia device stand-alone from your phone. [best Apple watch](https://www.techradar.com/news/best-apple-watch) and the [best Garmin watch](https://www.techradar.com/best/garmin-watch) could be very different things to varying people, depending on what is needed. You can, of course, go for older Apple Watch models to make even more of a saving at the sacrifice of newer features. A Morning Report each day and a Training Readiness score tells you if you are good to go for training or, more usefully, if you should guilt-free take a rest day to actually help you long term. Despite having a lot more data, it too offers some front-end displays to show how you're doing with useful metrics like the Body Battery to give a single number score to show how much energy you have based on your sleep and training so far. That said, if you love Apple design and layout then that big colorful screen may be enough to justify the price. A few years ago this section would have gone to Garmin hands-down but Apple has made progress in its health and fitness tracking features year after year. But for less money, you get lots of smart tracking on the Forerunner making it better value for money – you just have to sacrifice some smarter features like playing music directly from your Watch SE.
